Seeking Vet Clinic in Arvada

We recently adopted a cat that is 18 months old. Can anyone recommend an honest and affordable veterinarian in the Arvada area? In the past we have had experiences where the vet wanted to do many unecessary and expensive tests.

if you're on the west side - Arvada West Animal Hospital at 56th and Ward. LOVE Dr. Traci Schaeffer. Dr. Carpenter was just awarded vet of the yr by some vet organization - mostly for his work with shelter/homeless animals. Both will lay out the options and consequences so you can make informed choices. For example, my oldest dog has blown out her knee 3 times. although Dr. Schaeffer is not happy w/our decision to not do surgery, she understands it and has not pushed us and has given us suggestions to make the dog more comfortable and at this point, trying to keep the muscles strong and healthy - that's all that's left to hold that knee together! (as I cannot justify spending $2k plus on an 11 yr old dog. even if we had that money, I feel it should go to kids w/out food or something similar.)

I have had very good experiences with the Cheshire Cat clinic in Westminster (www.cheshirecathospital.net). They specialize in the treatment of cats, so they're very good. They are a full service veterinary clinic - everything from vaccines to surgery.

I love Arvada Veterinary Hospital at 6645 Wadsworth Blvd. ###-###-####. The senior vet, Dr. Houchens is wonderful. I have found that his collegues do tend to recommend unnecsesary things but he does not. I will now only go to him. :)

Hi S.,

Dr. Kelly Best at Arvada Flats Vet Clinic on 64th is wonderful! She's thorough, caring and TOTALLY honest. She completely understands the needs of both pet and owner and is not 'over the top' with uneccessary stuff. We have been seeing her for over 10 years and wouldn't go to anyone else. ###-###-#### www.arvadaflats.com

Good luck!

I've been going to Arvada Veterinary Hospital for years. They are very reasonable in price and have excellent doctors. Between my neighbor and I, we've had several emergencies and they are wonderful. They don't nickel and dime you on everything and don't try to offer services just to make money. They are behind Walgreens just off 66th and Wadsworth. ###-###-####

They aren't open 24 hours, so for late night emergencies, I highly recommend Animal Urgent Care which is only open after hours with Dr. Liz O'Rourke. They are at 7851 Indiana in Arvada. Her emergency prices are quite reasonable. Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital is one of the best, but they are REALLY expensive, so I only use them if I need a true specialist.

Arvada Vet only does laproscopic spays and neuters, and that is more expensive, so I'd recommend Planned Pethood for that.
