Can anyone recommend a therapist for an 11 y/o boy who has recently started injuring himself? I am afraid to call just anyone, there are so many providers just in it for the money. He is a very sensitive sweet kids who is suffering. He is also ADHD, learning different and profoundly gifted. We are close to 635 and Midway in Dallas. Please help....

I don't have a name a therapist specifically that works with kids, but I go to a psychiatrist and a therapist who are both awesome at at group of doctors called Bent Tree Psychiatrics. They are in Addison at Dallas Parkway and Westgrove. The phone number is ###-###-####. I know that they do have therapists and psychiatrists that work with kids there, because I had at one time inquired about my own child. I see my psychiatrist there, my therapist, and go to a Bipolar Group Therapy. This is a great group of doctors and therapists - highly recommend. Just ask at the front desk - tell them what his problems are and they can match him to the best person. I am so sorry for what your son is going through. Life can be rough at any age. You are a wonderful, strong, loving, brave mother to get him the help he needs - many parents would sadly look the other way. Have you checked out any special schools for his learning different/gifted/ADHD situation? I know the Shelton school is supposed to be awesome. They do the testing there to see if it is a fit and if not, they recommend other schools in the area that may be. I would definately address the self injury first however. Good luck to you and you son. This can't be easy at all.
