Selling Breast Milk - Jackson,NJ

Have you Googled it? I would think there are agencies to go through and a rigorous screening process. I would doubt there is a ton of money to be made here, unless you have an endless milk supply....

To be certain there is no risk all donation centers/milk banks screen and pasteurize. But, I know there is a black market of sorts. I could never sell mine knowing that the baby who is getting it needs it, but I have heard of milk share type websites. I don't know the addresses, but I am sure you can Google it. I am sure anyone purchasing (since yes, they have to purchase it from the milk bank too because they charge quite a bit for the milk due to the screening and pasteurization process) will want to do a little screening of their own, so I would be prepared for that and maybe have some kind of written agreement so that you are not held liable. I am sure the websites tell you all about those kinds of things though.

And...geez guys....it's just milk. We drink milk from all kinds of cows that aren't even our same species and none of them are even vaguely related to us. There are lots of babies out there that need it to thrive due to delicate digestive systems and prematurity, or mothers who want to give their babies human milk but cannot for many different reasons. People really need to get over this hang up. Just because it comes out of a breast people all of a sudden think it's gross. It has been human's first food since time began. Also I think there is some market for it for certain other medical conditions that it has been proven to be a helpful treatment but those people sometimes get subscriptions and get milk from banks. There is definitely a market out there.

For some of you ladies who are creeped out...
Throughout history, there have been women who were "wet nurses". They nursed other women's babies if the mothers weren't able to do so for themselves. There was no formula.
Abraham Lincoln's wife, Mary Todd Lincoln, had a wet nurse for at least one of their babies. At the time, under the conditions, it wasn't seen as awkward at all.

Times have changed.

I would contact your local La Leche League and ask about this.
I have heard of donating breast milk, but never selling it.
I wouldn't hope to make money for my breast milk any more than I would hope to make money having a child for someone else.

Making a profit off of something like that just seems inherently wrong to me.

I agree, you'll get the pervs if you try to do something like this because I can't see how another mother in this day and time would choose to buy a strangers breastmilk for her baby.

I think I just threw up in my mouth... sorry LOL but I wouldn't give my kid another M.'s breast milk for a million dollars. I think there's even been lawsuits with daycares mixing milk up, I can't imagine anyone would want to buy it.. I've never even heard of people donating it. I know in the medieval times they had wet nurses but I haven't heard of anything like that in my lifetime. Maybe I'm just completely in the dark but yuck.

The places that take the donations to give to babies with medical conditions who need it have to screen the donors first. I think you could set yourself up for a lawsuit doing this. Maybe not because of illness but what if the milk isn't stored properly? I also find it gross but I get grossed out pretty easily....

You need to contact your local hospital and ask if they can give you any information about breastmilk banks. You would have to go through a screening process and they would test your breastmilk. The hospital itself might even have a bank for their preemies and micro-preemies whose moms can't produce milk yet but desperately want their babies to have breastmilk. It's a very valuable resource if you have an overabundant supply and can afford to donate. Breastmilk is like liquid gold to babies in need.

If I understand the laws correctly, you have to get a license and it has to be pasturized etc. If you are looking to make a few dollars, go to your local milk bank and ask them if they ever buy in "bulk" or would they consider purchasing. You could also put a post on craigslist for selling your milk. Not sure how legal--but if you found another M. who wanted to buy-you could make a little money.

It is legal to sell it in some states but not in all. Look up your laws. You M. need to share medical records and the like.

You my need to pasteurize or get a food licence it to legally be able to sell it. It M. not be worth the 100's of dollars if that is the case.
