Severe Abdominal Pain After C-section

Hi ladies, (sorry if this is too graphic) I had a repeat c-section 8 weeks ago and last night after having intercourse I experienced severe abdominal pain under my ribcage that seemed to go straight through my back. It lasted for about two minutes but hurt so bad I almost threw up. This is only the second time we've messed around since I had my baby and the first time I had cramping but not this painful. Has anyone else had this happen? I assume its probably severe uterine contractions caused by sex but not really sure. I know I should call my doc but since the pain stopped, I dont want to freak out over nothing.
I appreciate any advice you have! Thanks!

So What Happened?

Well I finally saw a doctor on Friday for pain and he didn't know the cause but said he'd set up a referral for an ultrasound. Saturday night I ended up in the ER! They did an emergency ultrasound and discovered I have gallstones. Now I have to have my gallbladder removed. Thanks for all the advice! Wish me luck for my surgery!

Definitely talk to your doctor. If the pain persists don be afraid to get second and third opinions either.

You may have developed surgical adhesions. That is unwanted scar tissue that can build up in your abdomen after abdominal surgery. This is very, very common and usually causes no or only minor problems, but ever so often this scar tissue may grow excessively or bind together parts of your abdomen in a way that causes complications.
I had this after an appendectomy and had to get corrective surgery, but it is even more common after gynecological surgeries such as a c-section. It is sometimes difficult to diagnose, that's why I am cautioning you to not let your concerns be brushed aside by your physician.
Good luck!

This could well be uterine contractions, or spasms from intercourse causing pressure on scar tissue or nerves. But pain that severe is not something to ignore. Don't freak out, but do call your doctor.

The pain sounds like gall-bladder pain. According to the doc that took mine out (after my 2nd c section) this is a common issue after child birth. Have your doc check it out.

You might have an infection that was brought about by the c-section or adhesions may have formed.
Either way do not tough it out call your surgeon.

Good luck.

the pain and throwing up sounds like something might be related to your gall bladder - i would have it checked out if you have the pain again!

-- Yes, each C-section is different ( I had 3 ) -- and the last was was a dilly in terms of pain after intercourse --- it did go away--- but it was really not my favorite time. Do talk to your doctor- or the doctors' nurse ( they are often easier to ''chat'' with-- imo --- ) -- I'm sure all is well - and she'll just tell you to be a bit more careful. Blessings, dear heart--enjoy your babies --

I'v had two C-sections and I remember having pain after intercourse, but never that high, mine was alway in my lower abdomin. So, I agree with the other ladies that you should call your doctor just to be sure it is nothing.

Congratulations on your new baby!
