Severe Back Pain

On Sunday, out of the blue, I began having back pain. It is in my lower back in the spine. It has become severe. Getting dressed is painful, showering is painful, standing up, sitting down, walking, everything. I didn't fall, pick up anything, dance or exercise. The pain is slowly traveling up my spine and down into my legs. I have done some stretching exercises, taken Tylenol and Advil, taken a hot shower, put alcohol on my back (with a towel). I just don't know what to do. I have no medical insurance so I really don't want to go to a doctor and have x-rays ordered and all that jazz they'll want me to do. Any suggestions on what I can do to alleviate the pain?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well, today it has just been over a week the pain started and it lasted all week too. Today I woke up and I feel 85% better. I tried most everything you all suggested. I took Advil liqui-gels the last 2 days since the regular Advil and Tylenol weren't working. Ice worked for a while but it was hard to work with ice on my back. I think what helped the most were the prayers and stretching my back. My two boys were great about helping me stretch this weekend and I feel so much better. Thanks for all your advice and prayers. See, they work!

If it is that painful I would seek a Dr. you do not want to let something like that go. Sounds like you have tried alot to help the pain & if it is not working there could be something wrong. There are some Doctors who will do a payment plan. Why don't you carry Ins. if you are working ? I work to have my Ins. I have 2 small children also.

try the chiropractor, there is one in angleton named Dr.Summers, he is great. He won't let you leave if your back is still hurting I can tell you that. You could probably work out a payment plan.

Hello R.,
Why don't you try ice. You might end up having to see a doctor. If you do visit my website first and check out the discount plan, you can cancel anytime.

Good luck,

I find that the Excedrine back and body and the stick on heating pads work fairly well to at least dull the pain. Hope that helps. Good luck!

Hi,

It sounds like what happened to me. It was a pain that started creeping down my leg, evebtually making my leg feel tired...and the back pain increased. I would start with a chiropractor first, and if they cannot do anything you will have to see an orthopedic doctor. Back pain will not go away on its own...if it is serious. I got to the point of being almost unable to walk, it was a herniated disc. I had to have back surgery. If you see a chiropractor now, that may help.

Sorry about the bad news.........

NO NEED TO PANIC YET!!! You could be having one of several different problems....SI joint, Sciatic nerve, etc. First of all, NO HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!! NO HEATING PAD!!!!!! ICE IT!! Every chance you get, ice it. Sleep on an ice pack, ICE ICE ICE. Secondly get some tiger balm, rub it all over that lower back area. And stretch. What you need to do is to lay on your back, and slowly pull one leg at a time up. As far up as you can, knee bent. Then do the other side. Give it a few days, back pain is NOT necessarily something serious. And sometimes it can take several days to work it out. Just ice it LIKE CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good Luck,
april

Like all the other moms have said I would also suggest a chiropractor. If you live near Hwy 249 and Louetta there is an awesome chiropractor there that I went to. He did a great job on my back. I have had back pain in my lower back for two years and within 19 visits my back was fixed. He is the greatest. The first visit is free with just x-rays first. I will go ahead and give you there number and you can decide from there. It is Sunrise Chiropractic Dr. Ron LaVoie 21151 Tomball Parkway Houston, Texas 77070 ###-###-#### website is www.sunriseclinics.com Good Luck to you and your family and God Bless

I have had back pain all my life. I will tell you what I have done lately that helps some. Take one tylenol pm(the pain stuff doesn't help) The pm seems to take the edge off enough to where you can cope. Also at walmart they sell some heat wraps over by the bengay stuff. I also recommend rubbing bengay or icy hot on it.
Hope this helps

Chiropractic adjustment might be just what you need. I have had several upper and lower spine issues, and after a couple of adjustments it feels much better. My chiropractor charges 39 dollars per adjustment, it is well worth the money. I used to need it all the time. Last week I got two adjustments because my neck started bothering again. It had been 6 months, and after one adjustment the pain went away (got in for a second one for good measure) When you are all better, it is very important to stretch, to keep your spine flexible.
Good luck

Hi, R. s. Here's something you can afford to use.buy fresh rosemary and boil with water. Then add to green alcohol keep in glass container; so it will last longer. Add more strenght to it just by adding fresh rosemary and green alcohol.use as compressant with clean rags; then place clean dry rags on top so mix won't stain your sheets. So you can sleep with it. Try 1 to 3 weeks. It takes away any inner swelling which is causing the pain. This is also a great stress reliever. Good luck and add with your faith. I had tennis elbow on both arms and this took it away. And got rid of the 800mg of ibuprofen that was messing up my stomach and bowels. God bless, remember god watches all. L. r.

See a chiropractor. I go to Kingwood Chiropractic Associates. They can work out a payment plan for you too. I know how it is with no insurance. My husband switched jobs in May and we had to wait 3 months for insurance. It seems like everything that needed a doctor or er visit happened in June. We spent over $1400 for the month of June in doctor visits, presciptions, and ER.
Now my copay for a specialist is $50. I am seeing Cody at KCA. Even with my copay my total visits would be $650. They give you options paying out the whole amount, weekly, or monthly. Its designed for people with no insurance or no coverage for chiropractic. But they still gave me the payment option. Cody and Kyle are great too. Learned a lot of stuff from them about my spine that my old chiropractors in San Antonio never taught me. They can tell you if you will need to see a specialist or another doctor. They will do xrays up front to see what is going on.

i would say if you had to spend any money at all it should be on a chiropractor or massage therapist that specializes in pain management. my mother-in-law is a mt and she has fixed me like no dr or x-rays or medicine could ever do!

Yes, This has happened to me before. Sometimes not having enough sleep can cause back pain, and also stress. What worked for me was Aleve, it's good for back pain!! Also try Icy Hot. These both are over the counter. My back pain lasted for about 2 weeks. I know eventually it will go away. I know you are in a great deal of pain and i am sorry i am just now checking my Emails. Also as bad as it hurts, try laying on the floor without any pillows. You can also try and get someone to rub into it. If you need anymore advice let me know. Sincerely, P.
