My 10 month old has really bad diaper rash. I have always A&D and it has worked in the past. It's really starting to hurt her and I feel horrible. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.
Her diaper rash is so much better than it was. I'm not too into over medicating, so I let her run around bottomless for 15 minutes over the weekend and it seems to be much better. She doesn't cry when I change her now and she isn't itching. Thank you to everyone for your advice. I really appreciate it.
My daughter had this problem as well. I took her to her doctor, who prescribed a prescription diaper rash cream (the unscientific name for this was butt paste, believe it or not). This cleared it up in a day or so.

Have you been giving her a lot of (or any) juice? Both my boys ended up with really bad rashes if I gave them juice that wasn't diluted 1:1 with water...especially apple juice -- there's a lot of acid in the juices.
Otherwise, my pharmacist recommended Lotrimin AF and that cleared it up almost immediately. Try using wipes without fragrance or alcohol. If it's really bad, just wipe with water on toilet paper and then put the Lotrimin on. I guarantee you will notice a huge improvement at the next diaper change (and so will your daughter). :)
If there's any possiblility it could be yeast, I found acidophilus to be really effective. I buy kind called Floragen 3 at wholefoods or a natural foods store (in the fridge). You can just open the capsul into a container, dampen your finger and get about a third of the powder on it, then put it in your child's mouth to eat, three times a day. It's totally natural (just the same cultures found in yogurt). And I've found it to be really successful, along with a thick layer if zinc oxide (like desitin). Also, if you're breast feeding, a little breast milk, then a layer of zinc oxide works wonders! Sounds a little goofy, but the same stuff in breast milk that fights germs and infections in babies' bodies, fights germs and infections on babies' bottoms.

Hi N., it could be a yeast infection. My son just had that on his bottom and Lotrimin took care of it right away after A&D alone didn't help. It is over the counter. You could always put a call into your dr. to verify.
A&D is great for everyday use, but when a rash hits Desitin is the bomb. We had stocked up on A&D before our daughter was born. Luckily, one of our friends came over after our daughter's birth with a few of her favorite things. The best item in that basket was the tube of Desitin. It works every time. Good luck!
I know it may be messy with a mobile 10 month old, but before our daughter could crawl, we would have "diaper-free" time and the air on her bottom really seemed to help clear up diaper rash. I could just lay her on her belly on top of a cloth diaper. If you have a way to keep your daughter on tile for 30 minutes or so, it might help, and isn't too hard to clean up messes. My sister-in-law uses Maalox I think. Just dab some on with a cotton ball. Its supposed to work pretty well. Good luck!
maybe its the chemicals (non natural agents) in the rash cream?.?.? i would suggest arbonne internationals Herbal diaper rash cream. its all nautral! go to www.arbonne.com and take a look. all thier products are botanically based and with natural agents. let me know if you want to try it.
I'm huge on Buttpaste! I think it works wonders its the best I've found! And of course keep him dry and put it on ALL the time!
