My 6 month old has diaper rash like I have never seen. I have tried just about every expensive cream you can buy. Organic, all natural, hypoallergenic. You name it, I have probably tried it. I change him every hour to hour and half. i clean him with wipes everytime let him air out and then cream him up and diaper him. i go back and forth between paper and cloth diapers. although it doesnt go completely away when in cloth diapers it does get better. he seems to be in some discomfort from it. has anyone else delt with severe diaper rash?? are there any home remedies you can recommend that have work for you? he has a doctor appt on the 16th so if i cant get it in control by then i am sure he will give me a script for it...i really hope it doesnt take that much though.anyways your comments and suggestions will be much appreciated.

What can I do next?

Hi E.~

My sons haven't ever had severe diaper rash, but when their bottoms start to get a bit red and irritated, I use cornstarch in the irritated areas. You may also want to use a wet paper towel or wash cloth instead of the wipes. When the rash has started, sometimes the wipes can make it even worse. Be liberal with the cornstarch at every diaper change. Hope it helps!

Take care,
W.

You may want to stop using baby wipes. He could be allergic to aloe or other ingredients in the wipes. Use wash cloths or rinse your baby wipes well with water. All of my children have some form of eczema brought on by allergies.

We've been through that...I did have to take him in and the doctor recommended Triple Paste (its a cream, not ointment). Worked very, very, very well for us and I have used it ever since. I also would leave the diaper off for a while to get him to air out for about an hour to two hours at a time. It's kind of a pain, but I just put a few towels on the floor and let him sleep or play. Hope this helps!! Triple Paste was the only thing I found to work. You should still have him checked out because if its really bad there can be a bacterial infection. Good luck!

Hi, I hope i can help you out. My son and daughter both dealt with severe rashes at some point and both my mother and mom in law gave me this advice.... bath him in epson salt. just a little warm water and a little bit of the salt and then dry him out and continue with the cream, also, my doctor prescribed a cream used to treat yeast infection. very inexpensive. i might try webmd.com and see what that says for treatments.. but i highly recommend the epson salt. good luck.

try Bagbalm in the green tin. you can find it in the pet isle...i know, sounds wierd - but it works & our pediatrician said it was ok. Our 2 oldest would have such severe diaper rash that they would bleed....this worked!

Are you breast feeding him, and what are you eating? If you are breast feeding him, he is probably allergic to something you are eating.

If he is bottle fed, he might be allergic to the formula you are using.

If he is not allergic to what he is eating, he might be allergic to what is in the environment.

Another suggestion, as soon as the weather permits and he is older, let him run without diapers, nothing clears diaper rash like fresh air.

I would stick with the cloth diaper because the rash is better. If you are washing your own diapers, make sure you rinse them more than once.

I agree with the advise of seeing a doctor, and not using baby wipes.

E., it sounds to me more like a yeast infection than a simple diaper rash. Just keep it clean and dry until you see your doctor. J.

Hello,

I have a 2 yr old. About a year ago we had the same problem. I tried everything too. We even used nystatin on his bum. Is it just on his butt or on other parts of his body too. I stopped using soap, lotions and powders. I bought a bubble bath soap from a natural food store and completely took away fabric softener. If that doesn't work it could be yeast. Try avoiding wheat for awhile and give him refrigerated acidophilus. It's good for him anyhow. Keeps his good bacteria levels up.
Best Wishes,

T.
