Ok, so I have the most easy going, perfect baby girl. You would think my husband and I could go out for date night and leave her with the in-laws, right? Wrong. She won't take a bottle. I pumped milk and left her, only to get a call that we needed to come home because she wouldn't take it, even though she was hungry. Please give me some advice. The sweet precious doesn't take a pacifier, cause she rarely cries! (I know, good baby, huh?) I think she's just not used to artificial nipples. She took a bottle when she was 1 month old, no problem. I haven't given her one since, till recently. Is there hope for us? Thanks so much!

What can I do next?

Sounds like our little one! She would rather scream herself to sleep than take a bottle. I posted almost the exact same message a few months ago. I got several suggestions...most people suggested trying a different bottle or toying with the temperature of the breast milk. I was using Playtex nursers and tried a few others. We had some success with Avent, but it wasn't consistent. Unfortunately our bundle of joy never grew out of it. But she did take to a sippy cup a lot faster than her older brother did...so I finally got some freedom then, at around five and half months. I am sure this isn't what you wanted to hear. I worked my "mommy" time around her nap schedule. When that just wouldn't work, fortunately I have great in laws who toughed it out with a fussy baby for a time or two. Good luck!

Yes - I know this story! Two girls - no bottles (went straight to sippy cups). It will pass, I promise!

Oh yes, the memories. I remember having about two desperate weeks if I wanted to attend a wedding to find a way to get my precious angel to take a bottle. She too was an awesome sweet baby (and still is at 2!) Like your situation, she took a bottle fine at one month, but because i didn't consistently incorporate the bottle, at a few months I couldn't get her to take anything else. I literally was at the store everyday buying a new bottle and nipple. Seriously. It just took trial after trial, and of course someone else attempting the feeding because obviously if you are holding her it won't work. Probably not the best advice, but it was just trial and error for us until she finally took one. and yes, I got to go to that wedding!

Neither of my last two would take a bottle. We tried pumping so I could get some sleep & let hubby take some feedings. Nope. Not interested. You may just have to wait until she's on solids & sippy cups before you can go out for a longer period of time.

I had one of those babies 14 years ago. I can offer support and sympathy, but we never found a way to get her to take a bottle or pacifier. As she got older I realized she has a really strong gag reflex and throws up very easily. I suspect that had a lot to do with the dislike of nipples.

My baby girl was the same way. From the beginning she had to take a bottle with a couple extra ounces since she needed more than I could provide at first. Then when my supply came in she stopped wanting to take a bottle since one wasn't offered often anymore. Finally it got to be a problem because I couldn't leave her! One night I just decided enough was enough and literally sort of forced her to take it. After she finally started drinking we kept giving her one bottle every day to keep up the habit. I was the one who actually got her to take the bottle- which is the opposite of what others always seem to say- but it's what worked for us! We use Born Free bottles by the way. Good luck and stick with it!
