How did you KNOW to try for #3- was it easier to go from 2 to 3 or 1 to 2 for you? Pros and cons of 3?
Second- has anyone successfully tried the Shettles method to tip sex odds in your favor?
We have some history of gender specific problems and I recently stumbled upon this book. Wondering if it is worth buying or trying?

Well, no matter what method you try, it truly is in God's hands. However, if there are gender specific medical issues in your family, I don't think there's anything wrong with trying to conceive a certain sex. That is you trying to protect your future child from pain, etc. Don't know about 1-2, 2-3, I only have one! However, I'm pregnant with the second, and they'll only be 17 months apart! And we really weren't planning for either of them...Whew! I'm sure I'll be on here a ton asking for advice! Best of luck to you.

I have tried the Shettles method with my third and it worked for us. I had two boys and really wanted a girl so I borrowed the book from a friend and it worked. It makes sense once you understand it. But see if the library has the book first before buying it. I didn't read the whole thing, just the good parts. I can't really say if it's easier to go from 2-3 because my oldest is 12, then I have a 21 month old and a 8 week old. It was like having to first borns. But I don't get much sleep! I don't recommend having babies 19 months apart!

We have been trying for #3 for over a year now. Have had 3 miscarriages, but have been trying the schettles method with each one. Can't honestly say if it works or not, but I bought an older book of his at a garage sale, and the information in it seems pretty realistic. It says it is harder to try for a girl than a boy. It seems pretty time consuming while you are learning about it, but if it works then it's time well spent. Good luck to you, and no matter the sex of any babies to come I hope they are healthy.

Also since baby #2 was a surprise (although a wonderful one)we didn't really have to much of a decision there, but we want #3 with all our hearts.

It was much easier for me to go from #2 to #3, because I had a better idea of what to expect I think. The sex thing....I really honestly think that is just something that's pre-determined by the man. I really don't think there is any REAL way to have better odds. What is meant to be is meant to be. The odds are against all of us that we will have some kind of fault (disease, disfigurement, etc.) Keep us all posted!!!

I think it depends on your circumstance. It didn't seem too hard to go from 1 to 2 but my first one was 4 by the time I had my second. Then I got pregnant (unexpectedly) with number 3 before my daughter turned two. (I had one menstrual cycle and was pregnant the next month.) There were some difficulties with them being closer in age (26 months apart) but I did kind of feel like an old pro by the third one. I remember actually not following a doctor's advice and my husband questioning it and just knowing I was doing the right thing (I was by the way). I guess I had way more confidence in myself as a mother the third time around.

There are the obvious difficulties though, like you are all of a sudden out numbered in children. If they all need something at once you just do your best. You have 2 hands and 3 kids (I highly reccomend a sling or some sort of carrier to be your extgra set of hands). My friend explained it to me like this "It's like going from man to man defense to zone defense." That sums it up well.

As far as gender selection, I lucked out there too. I have boy, girl, boy, girl.

Never heard of the shettles method, but have you heard of the Chinese Birth Calendar? Search it in Google and take a look. It predicts gender based on mother's age at conception. It claims to be 97% correct. All the family and friends I have looked up have turned out to be true. We already had a girl when we heard about it, and the calendar predicted her gender accurately, so we used it as a guide for our second (which month to try getting pregnant) and sure enough, it worked. We got a boy. (Our family seems to favor girls...we have four nieces and only one nephew) I'm generally not a superstitious or astrological sign type, and I don't know how it works, but it seems to be pretty accurate. Something to look at anyway.
