Shopping Cart Cover for Baby Who Can't Sit up Unassisted

Hi everyone! My son has outgrown his infant car seat, but he is unable to sit up by himself and I am having a hard time finding a shopping cart cover for him. All of the ones I have found say that the child must be able to sit up unassisted. Does anyone know of one out there for younger children? The only other option I have is to put him in a baby carrier, but he isn't very happy in one! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What can I do next?

I am remembering now that awkward time. Too big for the infant seat, too small to sit on their own, too heavy for baby carrier...

I spent several months using my stroller as the shopping cart. It has a big storage space on the bottom. I always worried that people would think I was shoplifting, but that never happened. I would even use it in the grocery store for a quick shop to pick up a few items. I suppose one could use two carts. One for baby to lie in on a blanket, the other for food...

I liked the idea of online shopping. I haven't tried that for groceries, but I do use Schwann's. Great quality and selection.

A couple of stores had carts with infant seats attached. I personally found the straps to usually be broken and how clean could it really be?

Good luck!

It's going to be difficult to have your little one in the shopping cart, cover or no, if he cannot sit up unassisted - every corner and curve is going to set him weeble wobbling all over the place, and the cart cover doesn't do anything to help him sit up alone. I'd personally keep him in the infant seat until he learns how to sit a little bit better - he is at an age where he should be able to sit up unassisted, so work with him for a week, and he will likely be sitting by the end of it. His brain and body are ready to go, so every chance you get, sit on the floor with him and put him in "the position" - sitting up with legs crossed indian style, then lean him over at the waist and put his little hands on the floor on either side of his crossed legs for stability. If you do this often whenever you are playing with him or spending floor time with your children, and he'll get the hang of sitting up more quickly than if you just let him learn on his own.
That being said, I had no desire to buy that top of the line $60 shopping cart cover that I see so many moms use, but bought one that worked just as well from target. Here is a link to all the target shopping cart covers:

I received a shopping cart/highchair cover as a gift,I had the same problem with my son when he couldn't sit up by himself. I found if I put him in it and then I tucked a blanket behind and on the sides of him he was able to use it.

My suggestion isn't for a cover, it's for another way to get the shopping done. Have you thought of online? I do it all the time. I use Safeway.com for groceries most of the time. You get club card prices(if you have a card)and they deliver it to your door and bring it inside. First timers are free delivery I think. There is a deivery charge for subsequent delivery. Hope this helps.

Check out onestepahead.com and search for the Clean 'n Cozy Shopping Cart Cover. It has straps that go over the shoulder and around the waist. It will help your little one sit up. It cost $30, which is not bad since you will use it for the next couple of years.

WOW, I just realized while reading your post that I need a shopping cart cover for my 8 month old....He has grown out of his infant car seat and I just bought him a new car seat today. I was just looking around online for a cover. Some of them can be pretty expensive. There was a super cheesy multi colored one at Wal Mart for like 20 bucks. I want to find a solid colored one though, I think. Maybe sage or navy blue. I'll let you know what I find. If I had the time I could probably make one myself. But I dont, so...

I also stuffed blankets around my daughter when she didn't sit really well. I also would put the diaper bag or my purse next to her for a little more support. I didn't do this, but I've seen many women in the store with a front pack carrier or a sling...just an idea.
Good Luck!

Everyone puts their children in shopping carts, but please be aware of the dangers. I also suggest Safeway.com.

My daughter was sitting up pretty good by 6 months old, but still a little wobbley. I would put the shopping cart cover and 2 big waters from the grocery store on the sides and then she would be sandwiched in the middle. It worked great.

Hi A.! I don't know of special shopping cart covers for younger children. I also used blankets to prop up my daughter. I do love my shopping cart cover though. It is a clean shopper. They fit carts small and large. It even fits on Costco carts. It has it's own removable seat belt. It has two pockets and two loops to connect toys too. Mine has been thru two kids and is still in good condition. It is easy to use. I can put it on with one hand with the baby in the other. You can get them from www.cleanshopper.com.
