Maybe he wants you to imitate him-or talk back. Maybe he's just introspective-a sign of great intelligence!
My Lo just turned 6 months and is a very happy and expressive baby. He has been on and off with the babbling/making noises area. He started babbling at about 5 months and then stopped a week later. Since then he has days when he makes noises/sometime babbles and other days when his only noise is crying. I am concerned because all the websites say that he should be babbling like crazy. He is hitting all his other milestones and smlies and laughs all the time. He also screams, blows rasberries and says Ohhhhhhhhh and ah gooo. My question is should he be making noises and or bababling all the time or should he have periods of quiet and noise. I would really appreciate other mom's experience on this subject. I talk to him all the time but most of the times he just stares at my face and smiles.

Hi Mom. He sure sounds normal to me. :) All babies are different and all hit their milestones at different times. Sometimes reading too much makes you THINK too much. I read all my baby books/magazines/websites on my children( ages 13, 10, 2, and 7 months). Sounds, like I'm a veteran at this, but things change all the time nowadays. I read entries on how children should be at a certain age, etc, but take it as just some information.
Continue playing with him, talking to him, reading to him. He sounds like his on the right track! You're doing a wonderful job Mom!
Everything your son is doing seems to be normal. My son tends to babble more when we are alone than when we are in public. I don't think you have anything to worry about. :)
There's a great video you can buy called Baby Babble, short video for baby to watch that encourages beginning sounds and then gives ideas for Moms to encourage beginning language skills
My DD was babbling around 3 months... then stopped. If I tried really hard I could get her to babble at me, but she wouldn't really get into it. Now she is almost 9 months, and I have a hard time getting her to quiet down. lol. She has learned to say 'mama, dada, hello, bye bye, doggie, cat, and (this counts, I swear...) AWUBU (sounds kinda like I Love You...)' lol. :)
Sounds completely normal to me. My 2-1/2 year old babbled only occassionally as a baby and is a chatter box these days with a vocab much more developed than most kids her age. She also speaks Arabic thanks to her father. She still has her quiet time though - I think it is just her personality.
My second is now 7-1/2 months old and babbles away a LOT more than her older sister. She seems much more outgoing and I am sure seeing/hearing her big sister talk all the time has a lot to do with it too.
I think your little one is just fine and it is just his personality showing through.
Sounds just fine to me. :) It is so difficult to judge where children "should" be with each stage of development. As long as there are occasional sounds I'm sure he is just fine, from what you said he sounds perfect. My daughter hardly "babbled" she would make noises and then at 8-9 months she would not stop talking and she was speaking full sentences by a year and a half. Like another poster commented some children develope physically first. I also feel like some kids take it all in first and then just come out beyond your expectations.
Try not to read to much (I am sooo guilty of this) because you will drive yourself (and your husband) crazy with what your child should/shouldn't be doing everyday!
Sounds totally normal to me! My son didn't start really "babbling" until about 8mos. He was doing everything else, though, and was very early on the gross motor skills. (Crawled at 5mos, stood at 7, walked at 9, etc...) But he didn't utter his first word until he was 15mos old.
Now, at 2.5, he doesn't shut up! :)
I wouldn't worry about it. They often say that if the physical stuff comes first, the vocal stuff comes later. And to me, it doesn't sound like he's doing anything abnormally anyway. Just like you have quiet or tired days, so do he.
Don't worry mom!
Normal!!!!! I have number 3 and you think he'd be the loudest!!! Not so..Very laid back baby..Now at 12 months he is more demonstrative but my son was rather quiet at 6 months too!!! Sounds like your little guy is hitting his milestones with no problem to be concerned with :)
I think it depends on the personality of the child. Babbling is a form of talking so some days he may just don't feel like babbling. At least you know he does babble, alert, happy, smiling, etc. He is fine!
I wouldn't worry about it.
