Should I Take Her In

My one year old has not been eating or drinking much last few days. Only had two wet diapers since last night and it was not very wet. She has been crying almost nonstop. Has a hard time sleeping and can't get comfy. Wakes up crying and nothing will calm her.

What can I do next?

welcome to mamapedia, C..

WHY would you NOT take her in? She's showing the beginning signs of dehydration.

Yes. you take her to her pediatrician. This is NOT normal for her - right? So that means she needs to be seen by a doctor, in my book.

ABSOLUTELY! Go NOW.. That is not enough wet diapers! She is in distress and needs fluids. Please go straight to the ER. Please don't wait any longer. She may be fine, but it isn't worth the risk. Babies get dehydrated really quickly.

ETA: I just realized it may be morning to you.

If it has been more than 6 hours since she wet, then yes, take her in.

If it were me, yes I'd take her in - and did for things like that, at that age especially.

Sure! Take her to see a doctor!
It could be anything.
Teething, ear infection, etc. - it really sounds like something is causing her pain.
A doctor can check her out and help you figure out what's going on.
There have been times when I took our son in when it proved to be nothing but it was a great relief to me in knowing that - but more often it was something that was just starting up and catching it early always made it easier to deal with.

Every single pediatrician has a 24/7 phone line for parents. Use it. It's usually just the regular number, and you either leave a message or go right to a "live" answering service.

You don't go on the internet, search out a parents' forum, and wait a long time for enough responses to come in - you call and talk to your doctor or the other pediatrician on call. They will ask you additional questions that are relevant. This costs you nothing. Why wouldn't you use this service?

Mamapedia is here for ongoing questions, shared advice, and matters that are not time-sensitive. We're happy to share with you in those areas, but we'll never get in the way between you and your child's doctor.

Well, what are you waiting for? Of course you take her in.

A one year old is still really little. Just barely out of babyhood, she can get dehydrated very quickly. That will end up in her getting admitted into the hospital.

You don't let this just go for several days. If the doctors think that you haven't been taking care of her properly, they could call DSF.
