Should My 2 Year Old Get the H1n1 Vaccine

My son is 21 mos and got vaccinated a few weeks ago. He had no complications at all. In fact, if my husband hadn't told me he'd taken him to the doctor to have it done (I was at work) I wouldn't even have known.

my two year old got it one week ago. he was fine and is fine. there ARE children hospitalized due to the H1N1 and I am not going to risk that for my son. I believe the vaccine is safe for the vast majority and the chance of having a reaction to the vaccine is less then the chance he could catch this flu. and that is just my opinion.

I got it for my 15 month old son. Millions of people have had this vaccine already so your child is not a "guinea pig". I read an article recently that there was something like 10 people that got side effects worse than a sore arm...and they don't necessarily link it to the vaccine since people get those symptoms from other things. 10 out of millions??? I think it's been proven safe. Google it so you feel better.

I am a worrier and research everything-I got it for my baby at 10 months but not for my 5 year old (they didn't have it avail without the thimersol) I think kids should have it and I am not usually FEAR driven but we had no side effects- I was more worried about death knowing quite a few friends that have seen otherwise healthy young people in their 20's die because the lungs filled up too quickly with fluid-also a friend works in the NICU and said there were kids on ventilators. I know it is scary but it was less scary for me getting the shot-still haven't found one yet for my boy.
Visit Dr. Sears website he takes you through what to ask about in reference to the mercury if you are worried about it.

We have a newborn so our doctor recommended we get it for our 20 month old son. He had the injection because he has a little bit of asthma. He had NO side effects and is doing great (it has been about 3 weeks since he had it). I think it was definately worth getting-- the potential risk to him (and the new baby) is so great [especially how toddlers share germs] that I wanted my boys protected. I was nervous at first but now I am glad we did it.

My grandaughter had the vaccine at 12 months and she was fine. No side affects at all.

listen to your gut and do research on the vaccine. I personally wouldn't do it. I just took a workshop on vaccine safety recently and don't believe in these flu vaccines. There is a lot of scare through the media and CDC out there and I am just as worried as you are but I feel the shot is a greater risk than the flu. Side effects can appear as long as months after the shot and since we have the state of emergency it will take a long time to get the news about shown side effects - the rules for who gives and where you get the vaccines are different now so it will be harder for people to report and/or collect this data. Go with your gut feeling this time your right to be worried. The immune lowering chemicals in this vaccine take a year for the body to recover. Not good for a two year old who is just building the immune system. The virus is not like the regular flu, very mild and better than the chemiclas and virus they put into the vaccine that effect the health for years. Get Vit D3 and a little probiotic and eat well. M. I am a mother of two and believe the vaccines (all) pose more of a risk to children than the illnesses (meaning the risk of getting the illnesses, since they are rare within the population of this country). Of course, if the chance of getting a life threatening illness is great, then I would do it. The side effects can come immediately or later. My children, who have not been vaccinated (5 and 7) rarely go to the doctor with illnesses. The Doctor has told me that the children who are vaccinated come to his office more ofen with sicknesses than those who are not. So the vaccines are changing the make up of the immune system (I think). My daughter did have a flu, maybe it was H1N1, we do not know, but after a week of high fevers, she was fine. If your child has asthma or any other illness, then it should be considered(they say).

Please, don't do it. It is far better to allow children to build up a strong immune system on their own. This vaccine contains mercury and formaldehyde. I know of 2 people who have died within a week of receiving this untested vaccine. I know of two others who suffered severe side effects requiring hospitalization. This flu is not nearly as virulent as predicted. Ask your doctor to tell you what is in the vaccine and what the possible side effects are. Ask to see the data on the studies done on its safety. There is none.

Hello A.. As a mother, you want to do what is right for your child, and only you know what is right for him or her, or them, but in this case, I would strongly advise against getting it. It is just my opinion, and I have not vaccinated any of my kids with that vaccine. I personally do not feel there has been enough testing done with this virus, and I refuse to allow my children (and myself) to be used as guinea pigs for this. This vaccine hasn't been around long enough for us to know the full spectrum of the side effects, long term. I'd rather deal with it IF they get it, rather than as a preventative measure. I know that sounds crazy, but it's just how I feel. Naturally, you are entitled to make your own decisions, and I'm not telling you what to do (just strongly advising! lol) but do your research before committing your daughter to this. please

Hi A., I have two boys, 8 and 10 years old. They got their H1N1 vaccine last week and they were perfectly fine, no fever or any mild/severe allergic reactions even after 2 days. They only experienced muscle pain on the arm where the shot was given and a dose of pain reliever will ease the pain or any discomfort. We parents know what is best for our children. My grandaughter had the shot last wednesday. Still no side affects but she did catch her parents cold. She had to get both h1n1 & flu shot because she has J.R.A. We too were afraid but more afraid if she actually got the flu & she needs to go to preschool. We have been limiting her contact with other children until now. She is 4. I think we are all worried & hesitant.

Last week I also had an appt for my 11 month old and 6 year old
to get the shot. But my aunt had convinced me to only do the
regular seasonal flu shot(which I still haven't done).
My aunts boss had vaccinated her 3 yo daughter with h1n1 and
the next day she ran a fever of 103 in abiut an hour after
telling her mom she was tired. She ended up going into
convulsions while she slept. The mother has filed paperwork
with the pediatrician. Her daughter was released the same
day but has to be tested to make sure no further damage
was done. I know this may be a one in a million chance
but I'm glad I canceeld our appt. I told the office I
couldn't get time off work because our dr really reccomends it.
I don't mean to scare anyone but think we should know of cases
that don't always make the news. We are constantly having
everyone wash hands and since all of us here have had
colds I just made sure we all rested and had plenty of fluids.
This whole h1n1 really scares me and I feel like I can never
get a straight answer.

Our pediatrician says ABSOLUTELY NOT. Keep in mind pediatricians get paid big bucks for all of the shots they give. Do your research before just going along with what his Dr. is telling you. Cases of H1N1 are on the decline ad if you notice there isn't much "hype" anymore. What is coming out are all the horrible side effects and even deaths that are occurring because of the vaccine. Good hygiene and healthy eating goes along way with general health.

Read up on the Facebook Group-there is plenty of information on bad reactions to not just H1N1 but other vaccines.

You have a right to be scared-it's your parental instinct kicking in which far outweighs what any Dr. says.

My 2 year old received his shot on 11/16/09. I was definitely hesitant about getting the shot but I was also concerned about him being exposed from his childcare. I did not ask for it but his pediatrician highly recommended it, so he received it and the regular flu shot. I think when she told me that young children are getting it and dying from it, I did not want to take that chance. So far, my 2 year old is fine and I feel that he has a very good chance of resisting any flu virus that may come his way. Yet I must say, not knowing how the shot may affect his health in the distant future, still concerns me.

I have a 5 year old and a 2 year old, and they both got their H1N1 shot (injection) about 1 month ago. They have had no side effect, not even tenderness on the injection spot. My older one is in kindergarten and there have been a number of H1N1 outbreaks in his school district. So far he has been healthy (so has my daughter). Good luck, and I hope you make the right choice.

ps. Our peds told everyone that about 30% of kids that receive the flu shot through nasal mist get some kind of flu like symptems. I would recommend the injection shot if you decide to do it, and if it's available.
