If I were you I would call C.P.S right away. This is in humane and CRUEL. I can't believe I just read this. Some people really should not have children!
What is the general opinion of putting a 6+ MONTH old bay into a Bumbo chair and putting it in the shower to make it stop crying? Baby is now 8 mos. and I'm told by it's mother they still do it.
I am the Gma of this child. The baby's parents told me they do this to him to make him stop crying. In my opinion, this is torture because (1) the baby is restrained in the chair, (2) the baby cannot make a choice as to getting out of there. He still is unable to walk or talk and crawls very little; (3) the psychological effects this will have on the child cannot be justified. another method they use is to hang the baby upside down to make him stop crying...by his ankles in mid air. The first three months of his life he had thrush so bad the Dr. said it was "systemic". This also made him colic ee (however you spell that). At 6 months the baby cut teeth like crazy and was in pain often! These are the reasons for the crying baby. From day one, they feed and change the baby (changing only sometimes) and put him in his crib with the door shut. (Read, solitary confinement) This past sunday I went over there and found that they set up his dangley toy thinger on the floor and leave him in there, in his room, with the door shut. I've tried to advise against this treatment of the baby and they told me to butt out, and that I don't know that much about raising THEIR child. I babysit him once a week to try to give him some love, reassurance and teach him he has a place where he can feel safe and happy.
Well I knew what my answer/feelings were but I thought (hoped) there would be something, some idea, some angle I hadn't thought of. I was looking for fresh ideas.

Why haven't you called CPS yet???
I think you knew the answer to this before asking.
EDIT: What you have added is neglectful behavior. Call CPS- it's anonymous. Provide as much info and detail as you can. This poor child.
What? This is so wrong. I have heard of turning on the shower for background noise while soothing a child, but this seems really cruel.
Common sense says its wrong, do you want me to report it? What are you waiting for?
Does the baby like it? I have showered with my child in my arms before (after she pooped in the tub and I had to get her clean quickly) but she was cuddled and gently washed - she seemed to like it.
However, the leaving of baby in the crib is advice I got from my pediatrician since my first was colicky and cried every day from 5 to 10 PM and many other times during the day for the first 6 months of life. Doc said that after feeding and burping and trying everything to soothe, it is OK to put the baby down for half an hour and go to the opposite side of the house to get a moment's down time. Baby won't get hurt in the crib and with colic there is nothing you can do sometimes to stop the crying. So I can sort of understand, having been there, that if this truly stops the crying and the baby seems ok with it, that perhaps this baby likes the sound and feel of warm showers.
But if they are ignoring this baby at all times, which seems to be what you are describing, then this is indeed child abandonment or neglect.
Um...I'd think the baby would cry harder...Because that would be a scary scenario for the baby. Please don't do this. If a baby that age is crying and nothing can be done to soothe him/her than put them down in a safe place, crib or pack n' play and let them cry it out.
"IF" this is a real post then you should have called CPS a loooooooong time ago. Call them now, you can do it annonomously, and get the child some help. this is torture
Call CPS now and describe in detail everything you've observed and been told by these parents.
Okay the responses are making me laugh, it is not like they are waterboarding the child.
Still I have never heard of this as being a good answer to a crying baby and I have got some crazy advice in my day. I suppose if they found the baby like water and finds it soothing it would be okay. Thing is if it scares the child they are just going to start crying the minute they get out.
Seems pointless.
The parents are out of bounds. Is the water warm or cold. How do they know he won't get burnt. Children whose mothers can figure out what they need do better in school and life. Those tormented like your grandchild wind up mentally ill and on drugs. SO GRANDMA do the right thing and turn them in.
Next time you go to the house and they have him in the shower go outside and call 911.
Then wait for the police.
