A few days ago, I put in a question regarding my 3-month-old baby boy's eczema and received a lot of good responses. Thank you everybody. The problem now is that he is getting more symptoms as the days go by. I have a dr. appt for him this afternoon, but I was just wondering if anyone else's babies has ever had these strange symptoms also. First he started with the dry, scaly skin that seemed to be very itchy and irritating because he is constantly trying to rub his face. Then he started getting red, watery eyes that are now getting a little puffy but not all the time just a few times a day. He's become fussy while breastfeeding but will take a bottle. Last night, he had a fever of 100, so I gave him Tylenol drops and it went away. He couldn't stay asleep at all last night and woke up screaming when he did wake. In the first hour of sleeping, he woke up 5 times. There are so many different symptoms, I'm not sure if his dr. is going to know what this is right away and it's making me really sad to see my baby like this. He does still smile and coo but he is definitely more fussy than usual. I would like any advice from anyone that has had this wide range of symptoms with their baby also. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

New Update--Hours after using the cream and Elocon, his face has completely cleared. His skin is soft, shiny, and beutiful again. I think he was rubbing his eyes a lot when he was itching which also caused the tearing. No more fevers, which I now believe was just a jump in body temperature because he was working himself up so much over the itchiness. I think the horrible itching was also causing him to wake up so often in the night. At the moment, things are going wonderfully and I want to thank everyone again for all their advice and suggestions.

Okay, I went to the pediatrician and he gave me Cetaphil cream and Elocon 0.1% for his eczema, which he said was a mild case only. He said for me to call back on Monday if it hasn't cleared by then and we can look into further why it is occurring. He believes his watery eyes may be from wind irritating his eyes on our daily walks. He doesn't think it was a real fever at 100, especially since I only did it by his armpit and not rectally. The sleeping he can't explain. Hopefully he'll be sleeping better tonight and his rash will clear up soon. Thank you everyone for your input.

This sounds like an allergy with red, watery, puffy eyes, and fever. Try cold wet towel on eyes for soothing.

ok, I know you went to the doctor already, but I am just not trusting him. You know your baby way better then anyone else, the watery eyes and the exzema can be explained, but the fussyness and fever can't be. Rectal tempature is the only true tempature reading you can get, even the ear is not accutate. But usually they say if you take the temp under the arm (for older kids 2plus) then add 1 degree. You are the mom, god gave you mothers instincts for a reason. If you think somthing is wrong, I would go back, tell him you want blood work done, be insistant, doctors don't know your baby as well as you.

I agree with Michelle. It sounds like an allergy. Some things you can look at are environmental - do you have any pets? You can also look at what types of foods you are eating that could be affecting him.

Good luck

Hi L., when you take him to the doctor, tell him/her everything, they are probably going to want to run some allergy tests on him, also if he is fussing when toy breast feed, give him the bottle, their may be something in your breast mild that may not be agreeing with him, one of my daycare kids have aczema ever since he was a new baby, he would scratch till he blead, what I started doing for him he's 5 now, he stayed with me while his parents were deployed. any way I put organic body wash in his bath water, and onlu used pure and natural soap, and then after every bath I put Aveeno lotion on him, and this summer his aczema didn't bother him to the point of scratching. The occasional bottle, is it breastmilk or formula? If it is formula, my guess is he is allergic. If it is breastmilk then, I'm at a loss. The fever - Did he have shots recently?

Hope he is feeling better soon!

My son has eczema as and as an infant he would rub his eyes like maniac his doctor told me it was called Dennie-Morgan Lines...well we had to Co-sleep and each hold an arm down while he slept (only during flare ups) I would use Eucerin (the thick stuff) I would dab it around his eyes to keep as much moisture in as possible....Aquaphor works really good too. His doctor would not let me put any type of steroid cream on his eyes....it thins the skin and is very dangerous to use around the eyes, she did give us Protopic but only to use very sporadically and gave us Cutivate and Elocon for the rest of his body. He is now 5 years old....I have never had him tested for allergies...I am considering it now. His fingers, toes, ankles, wrists and knees are always causing problems....we have gone thru lots of band-aids. Now I only use OTC Cortizone cream when needed and lots and lots of lotion every day....OH....His eyes don't really bother him anymore they do get really dry (the skin)at times but no more cracking or inflammation. Keep tubes of Eucerin and Aquaphor with you at all times:) OH...I did use an anti-bacterial cream when he would open the skin too (not around eyes) so he did not get a bacterial infection....like impetigo:( EEWWWW
