Hi mamas,

So my son has been sick for the past 3 weeks. It all started the day after he has his 4 month vaccines. It started with puking, and fussiness. It is now pulling at head, puking, diarrhea, fussiness, and full on melt downs. The dr did a CT scan of his head and an ultra sound of his stomach, but all that came back normal. She said it was a virus or he is teething and to just wait it out, that was last week. He still hasn't gotten better. I see no bumps, redness, or hard gums, they are still soft and pink. He is drooling and loves to "eat" his hand.

Any ideas?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Well I took him back to the ped because he now has a light rash all over his body. We did a test (a swab) and he does have a virus. What i don't understand is how he could have gotten the virus. We are never around any other kids, and rarely go out in public ( maybe once every couple of weeks) I really want to take him to a homeopath ped. But our insurance doesn't cover it, and being a SAHM we are bearly making it as is. I did get the vaccine book and am reading it, I truely believe that he was severly weakend by the vaccines and is having a hard time trying to adjust. Thank you all for your advice! I'm gonna start giving him Vitamin C today and see how he does. The ped said if he isn't better by monday that we need to go back in for some blood work. Hopefully he will be better!

It sounds like maybe a combination of teething and a virus. My niece is "eating" her hands lately too, and we can't keep dry clothes on her because she drools so much. The docotor said a month ago that she can tell the teeth are close to coming through... but they aren't there yet. She goes back and forth from being cranky like she doesn't feel good, to being fine.
She also has a virus that has been hanging on for a month now (she is 5 months old) that is causing her to puke more than normal... even if she feels good... have a fever now and then, etc.

Kids can start the symptoms of teething weeks if not months in advance. if he is chewing on his hand that leaves me to believe thats what it is. But i would possibly think about getting another view on it.

CT scans will not show vaccine induced autism or any other of the many vaccine induced injuries. One reason is because they didn't know what your baby's brain function looked like before they gave him the shot. Me and my family have more personal experience with brain injuries, vaccines and sensory development issues than we want to.

A 3-week virus that just happened to start the day after vaccines? Either your MD graduated last in her class or will not entertain the possibility that vaccines in young children are dangerous.

I'm so sorry this happened to you and your baby; I recommend http://www.familyhopecenter.org/ for severe cases of brain damage and http://www.handle.org/ for mild to moderate brain injury.

I think he is having a major reaction to the vaccines. Have you tried taking him to a natural doctor? Medical doctor's always blame a virus when they don't know what is happening. I could tell you lots of stories reguarding our 10 year old and "viruses" per the medical field. He was having lots of problems with vaccines, slipped disc, etc. I apoligize, but I DON'T believe the medical fied is the only answer. They have there place but not if they can't fix things quicker than this.

Good luck

Hi T.
After seeing a news artical about Vaccines I would say the illness is a direct result of the Vaccines. Find a different DR. Go see a Imuneoligest a DR that deals with the Imune systom. In this world there is a strong relationship between Cause and Effect. Not knowing what your son was given and how meney different types of vaccines that were given at the same time, it is hard to know what to do.
As for teething, The drooling is a good indicator that the peoses is beginning. To help with teething I like to use OIL OF CLOVE, just a little on a Q-tip or the end of a little finger spread over the gums will stop the pain of teething.
Another thought is to have his ears checked he may have an inner ear infection that is lo-grade, could cause the symptoms also.
I hope this helps

Be very careful and take everything the medical community says about vaccines with a grain of salt. My first had no issues with them, but my second had a reaction to both her first and second set of shots which I was consistently told was, "No big deal... Some kids react this way... It will pass... It is not all that uncommon." etc. A friend suggested that some of her "odd" behaviors (not even the ones I was so concerned about) might be associated with the vaccinations. I did my research and ended up doing a 12 page college term paper on the subject. Here are a couple of books I've read and used in my research:

"Vaccinations: A Thoughtful Parent's Guide: How to Make Safe, Sensible Decisions about the Risks, Benefits, and Alternatives" by Aviva Jill Romm

"What Your Doctor May Not tell You About Children's Vaccinations" [this one is written by a doctor: Dr.Stephanie Cave]

"Immunization Theory Vs. Reality: Expose on Vaccinations" by Neil Z. Miller

"Vaccines: Are They Really Safe and Effective? A Parent's Guide to Childhood Shots" by Neil Z. Miller

The third or fourth set of shots are generally the ones that
can inflict the most damage. My daughter is now 10 and has never received another childhood vaccination. And neither, I might add, have any of my children who followed. The chances of a child having a severe reaction if their sibling has had one is greatly increased. Hope this helps.

This is an especially awful cold and flu season this year. Children don't have a three week reaction to a vaccination - so the timing between his illness and his shots was a coincidence . . . but given the number of sick children your doctor has probably been seeing, her office is probably where you son caught this virus.

It sounds like your doctor is ALL over this with the CT scan and the ultra sound. I'm assuming that he's still taking plenty of formula and/or is nursing well enough to stay hydrated. As long as he's eating and isn't running a high fever, I'd give him some baby Tylenol to help make him more comfortable and give him a variety of things to gnaw on.

Hi T....I haven't read any of the other responses, so hopefully someone has already given you this advise. Find yourself a naturapathic doctor that is trained in homeopathic medicine. There are natural homeopathic remedies available that can help counteract the vaccine reaction that he is having. Most doctors don't know anything about this. You may have to pay out of pocket. You will be so glad you did. I wish you the best in this. If you need help finding this type of doc, let me know what city you live in and I ll do my best. If your close to Portland, try the Naturpathic School that located close to downtown. Blessings...N

This is obviously a reaction to the vaccine. Has the Dr. ruled that out, or just thought it was something else? You might also consider a second opinion. I'm not sure what else to say. I have never dealt with anything like this before, but I wouldn't let his Dr. get away with telling you that it's just a virus or teething. This is definitely not normal behavior for a teething infant and doesn't sound like any virus I've ever heard of. Think happy thoughts and try not to get discouraged! I am SO very sorry! Read the follow-up post and hope things are better now, but would STRONGLY encourage you to refuse any fture vaccines and to get lots of education on vaccine reactions; sounds like your poor little guy had a BAD one. Also strongly encourage you to get to a naturopath for him and get him rid of the toxins from the vaccine... hope it all gets better; you got lots of good advice here! I vaccinated until my oldest was 6 months old, having a worse reaction every time (though not as serious as your son); finally quit at that point as I learned about all the neurotoxins in the shots. My son now, at 9, still has various gut issues as well as high functioning Autism, and while I don't attribute ALL the Autism to the shots, I do see that as one factor, as well as a MAJOR cause of his GI problems.... PLEASE be careful; if you DO choose more shots, please space them out and do ONLY those you really are convinced he needs... you do have the right to refuse them, and to pick and choose which ones he has and WHEN he has them. Best wishes to you, whatever you decide!!!

T., Keep on the Drs. about running more tests. Have they done blood work to rule out diabetes? My son was nine months and got the same symptoms after his immunizations. The Dr. thought it was a virus or he was just teething. He didn't think that a nine month old could get diabetes, but he did. He's 15 now and living with it just fine. I would also have them rule out autism.
Not all imunizations are good for us! I wish the Dr's could see that. They just go along with what the pharmacutical companies tell them.
Look into N.A.E.T. also to get rid of any allergies
naturally. Good luck! g

My 4 and a half year old son has been sick for an entire month now, we're working on month 2. He had the puking thing and he did nothing but puke for 6 days. Then he got a fever and a cold and a horrible cough, I mean the cough was so bad it made him hoarse. Then he got pink eye, and now he has a cold again with the runny/ stuffy nose and slight cough. He hasn't had any vaccines recently, so that's not the cause. His doctor said that this is one of the absolute worse seasons of cold and flu he's ever seen. I too have been sick for the past month and I have to deal with all of this while being pregnant, so I understand your concern. I think your son would have gotten sick no matter what. I wouldn't be so quick to blame the vaccine. If you are concerned that the doctor isn't being helpful, then please go see another doc. You are your sons voice right now and he needs you to speak up for him. I hope this helps and eases your mind a bit. It truely is a bad season right now.

for sore gums my daughter LOVES teething tablets. and orajel works great too. she also loved it when we stuck teether rings in the freezer or let her chew on an unopened otter pop . when she was really little i would wet a wash cloth and freeze it and let her chew on that, the cloth seemed to fit better in her mouth.

You probably will not hear this response from anyone else including your MD. (I had a similar experience with my son.) I am assuming that your son had his DTaP at this 4 month visit. This may be a reaction to the vaccine. I am just a mom but I would recommend considering not having him receive the rest of his DTaP shots. Do some research online regarding reactions to this specific vaccine. You will be shocked with what you find. Which ever you choose, make sure that you are fully informed of both sides of the vaccine debate.

My son was diagnosed with autism at age 2 and upon receiving his 15 month MMR and DPT, the next day he started digressing QUICKLY. When we had him get his 5 year DPT, immediately after he wet his pants for a month, regressed in his language, and had a 100.4-102 temp and was lethargic all weekend. He recovered but, WE ARE DONE WITH VACCINES.

He is doing very well now and he has no s/s of autism but it was a hard road for us for 3 1/2 years.

I'm not suggesting that this may happen to your son. But you seem to suspect the vaccine. I have learned to ALWAYS trust your mommy instincts. Good luck!

Dear T.,

I am so sorry to hear about your son. Don't let the doctors just brush away your fears. A mother's instinct knows when something is not right and more serious with her child. IMO, I think his symptoms have to do with the vaccines as well. How many was he given? The full amount? If I were you, I would read The Vaccine Book By Dr. Sears. It is very unbiased and informative and even offers a selective or alternative safer vaccine schedule that will allow you to be better able to keep tabs on your baby's health afterwards. Also, when a baby is vaccinated, their immune system is compromised. The more shots at once, the more compromised the immune system. So, it is possible that your child caught multiple viruses as well (since a baby's immune system is only 60% efficient at this point). Sad to say. Did you give Tylenol to your child after his shots? Giving your child Tylenol after vaccinations depletes his stores of Vitamin C (which helps combat illness). Try giving him liquid Vitamin C to boost his immune system to fight off what he might have. And I would see a Naturopathic Pediatrician just for a second opinion. My husband and I found one and have been very pleased. We also have a regular pediatrician and I have to say, the Naturopath has been able to help our baby more and naturally. Also, you might want to check out www.vaccinetruth.org. As far as the drooling, sounds like your son is preteething. My son is 4 months old and is doing the same thing. If he is starting to actually teethe, you might try Hyland's All Natural Teething Tablets. They are wonderful! You can get them at any Rite Aid or order them online at Amazon.com. And if your child was puking and having diarrhea, this could have washed away all the good bacteria in his stomach. Try giving him some powdered acidophilus to help restore the good bacteria. This happened with my son after he got the Rotavirus vaccine. And after we gave him acidophilus for a few days, he was happy and his normal self again. Hope this helps! My prayers are with you and with your child.

Hi T., I am sorry for what you are going through, it's scary, and frustrating! My advice, if the doctor is someone that you trust, then it is probably a combo thing, he's teething, the hand thing makes that obvious, and a lot of things could be making him sick. My daughter teethed for what seemed like forever, I found that frozen waffles worked real well, it brought down the swelling in the gums. Popsicles broken into little pieces, just slip them in his mouth. When ever it is medical, I say you should watch closely his symptoms, other than that, he is in pain, and that can cause him to vomit, and if he isn't getting enough to eat, he will get the diarrhea, look at his gums and see if you can see where the culprite is, and see if you can't get the cold there. Good luck and God Speed! R.

It's time to find a new doctor--pronto. And I would be very, very wary of his future vaccines--there are a lot of alternative schedules out there which seem much kinder to me than getting 20 vaccines in the first year of life. I'm not against them, as vaccines are wonderful things to keep us well; but they can spaced out much more than what traditional medicine recommends these days.

Pulling at head and puking can be due to a really bad headache. I would see another doctor for a 2nd opinion. My son had a similiar reaction to his 4 mo shots, they told me the same thing.
Is he still vomiting? Is he arching his back during his melt-downs? The Pertussis vaccine is know for causing encephalitis (swelling of the brain= very bad headache). Some babies have been misdiagnosed with Shaken Baby Syndrome due to the Pertussis vaccine.
Not to alarm you but the next set of shots can do worse. I refused any more vaccines for my son after reading up on them.

All I can say is READ READ READ as much as you can before getting more vaccines. If you feel these reactions are due to the vaccines- please report them to the CDC.

he had suffered from mercury poisoning and may live with his

Hi T.! I have to agree with many of the responses already given, and suggest that you get a second opinion, and even perhaps a third opinion, and if it were me, I would seek out the care of a naturopath or other such individual. I would hold off on ALL other vaccines until you figure out what is going on, and get information and advice you feel in your heart you can trust. I would keep a journal of EVERYTHING! Times and dates of vaccines, vomitting episodes, fevers, EVERY symptom that your son experiences, times and dates of care providers you speak to/see, and what they tell you, as well as keep well-organized all lab results, etc. I would also get on Mothering.Com and find other parents whose children have had these experiences, who can offer you support, information and advice on what else you can do. Based on your description of your son's sypmptoms and when they began, *I* cannot be certain that this is a reaction to vaccines. However, it is a definite possibility, and I wouldn't rule it out until you have figured out what *is* going on. I wish your son healing and you the best of luck!

We found a homeopathic teething medicine and they also have tablets that disolve under the toung, They are wonderful! Also there is a mesh bag that you can put cold anything into for him to suck and chew on.(Just don't use citris) There are also sugar free teething cookies that we got at Natures (?) Just go to any natural food store and you can pick up safe items to help. Also, Gerber has a juice drink (we get apple) called liquilytes! This is helpful for vomiting and diarrhea. It acts like pedilyte, but pedialyte tastes horrible. My son loves this juice. Our pediatrician recommended it! Good luck to you! M.

From experience...you might research the toxicity and dreadful side affects of immunizations. This is a touchy subject but when our oldest son had MAJOR contraindications from Immunizations...we started reading and researching. Our second son was never immunized and since we homeschool it isn't a problem. My sons are both healthy but my youngest one is healthiest by far. My oldest has had some weird happenings in his body and we are soooo glad that we only had two sets of immunizations. So...just a little bug in your ear! I have seen and read too much to believe there is not connection. My naturopath said that we are trading mumps and measles and chicken pox for cancers of all types. I believe it. Good luck and happy, informative reading! JB
