It sounds like sinus issues to me. I do the same thing when my sinuses are acting up. If I use my allergy nasal spray, it clears it up.
HI Moms:
I hope you can help. I feel sick almost every morning; just a queasy feeling in my tummy. When I brush my teeth I almost throw up. After about 30 minutes or so, I'm fine! NO, I'm not pregnant! This has been going on for a very long time and it's only when I get up early. If I sleep in and get up about an hour later, I'm fine. Well, I've never said anything to anyone about it for fear of the "power of suggestion." (Previous experience with my daughter!) But now my son (16 years old) is having the same thing! ONLY when he gets up early for school. (Has nothing to do with disliking school, etc. He loves school!) If he sleeps a little later, like on the weekends, he's fine when he gets up. Has anyone ever heard of this? Could it be foods we're eating the night before, smells in the house? I never really cared that this was happening to me but it breaks my heart that my son is now dealing with it. It's really weird! My 13 year old daughter has never said she feels this way. Any thoughts?!?!?! Thanks!!
Thank you everyone for your thoughts and ideas. I never even thot about GERD! I was actually diagnosed with it years ago but haven't really had noticeable symptoms; at least I didn't think so! As for my son, I gave him a couple saltines this morning and he said he felt ok when he got up. Gonna go this route for awhile and see what happens and keep pushing the importance of drinking water! Forgot to add: I actually have an appointment today for his sports physical so I will definitely be asking about this! Thanks again!!

would it be a blood sugar thing?
Maybe you should eat first thing in the morning.
I have no idea why but what jumps out at me is that if you sleep later you are fine. I wonder if you went to bed a little earlier if it might help. Maybe it is your body's response to not getting enough sleep. Just a thought. Also, maybe ask your dr. at your next physical.
I actually also get like this when I don't get enough sleep. Try going to be an hour earlier, if that is possible. I always wait to eat and brush my teeth, otherwise my stomach is upset the rest of the morning and early afternoon. I get dressed, hair, makeup, then eat and brush my teeth before walking out the door. Some days it helps, others it doesn't. I also would try changing toothpaste, to a different flavor.
I hope this answer helps. Try drinking warm lemon juice made from a real lemon. Just slice it in half squeeze the juice into the warm water and drop the rest of the sliced lemon into the water - it may help to settle the digestive juices in the stomach. You can try drinking it at night before going to bed or in the morning if you can get up early enough to drink it.
Wishing you the best in health.
I thought I was the only one that dealt with this too. It doesn't happen to me all the time but occasionally it does. I can't eat anything for at least three hours before I go to bed or it makes it worse. I do have acid reflux too though so I just thought it was from that. The "sour stomach" or acid reflux and GERD are all similar and it all has something to do with the acids in your stomach. I find that saltines do help even when you aren't pregnant!!
I have something similar. I have very low blood pressure and sugar levels normally. So, when I get up either too quickly or my schedule is off a little, I have a queasy feeling too, especially if I do any exertion. So, I notice eating something small and light as soon as I get up helps. Also drinking more water throughout my day helps immensely! The best thing is to check with a doctor too!
I have had this problem since I was about 12. My mother even took me in to the doctor eventually to see if anything could be done. I was officially diagnosed with "Sour stomach"....not much help to my mother. We were told to drink lots of water, dehydration can intensify it. And starchy high carb food was suggested...I ate lots of saltines and rice for breakfast. Both helped a lot. BUt I had to wait a bit before I could eat it. Years later in my later 20s I was told I have GERD (reflux). The doctor said I probably had an early case of it when I was younger, which attributed to the upset stomach when I woke up early. Basically my food wasn't digesting properly and causing extra acid. When you sleep in your stomach is "over it", so to speak, so it doesn't get upset. Your body digested everything and your stomach is no longer irritated. So...If I had it to do all over again, I would probably go to a doctor and see if I had reflux issues.
I would really recommend seeing a doctor. It could a few things. I doubt the sinus one. Could be sugar, blood pressure, thyroid or something else. My daughter was diagnosed with autonomic nervous system problems at age 14. She has a hard time in the morning too but it has gotten worse. Her diagnosis was POTS. She also has dysautonomia, These are tied into blood pressure issues. I think my mom and I have had this in the past but it was never diagnosed. I doubt your child has these but you need a real diagnosis. SO please see a doctor to also ensure that you are not overlooking something very treatable but could be damaging if left untreated.
me too. Well I am pregnant now, but even not pregnant, if I am under any extra stress, don't sleep well, or have to get up earlier than normal, I have terrible morning sickness. I've never looked into it, but getting enough sleep normally helps me. There are times when it is stress related that i am actually sick in the mornings. And even pregnant, not getting enough sleep will make my morning sickness worse.
my son has the exact same problem. happens early in the am, if he sleeps in - no problem. I happened to ask his allergist about it and she said that there are 2 kinds of reflux - one in the stomach and one in the throat. When you sleep and generate mucus (allergies for example can do this) it builds up and when you get up early your body hasn't had time to absorb the extra liquid. She told him to go back on the nasal spray - rhinocort because it would help. And so far it has. He just went back to school this week and will need another couple of weeks to really be sure.
She also gave us a list of foods to avoid, which I haven't really adhered to yet in case we don't need to He has always had alot of nasal congestion, and takes claritan daily. Good Luck
Wow! I didn't know how many of us suffered from this! I feel nauseous most of the time when I first wake up and an hour after eating. I'm not aware of any hearburn or GERD, but I've heard people can have it and not be aware of it.
I have lots of work stress, but I don't think it's the cause. A lot of our food supply is contaminated-I get the recall notices and it's amazing any of us are alive! But I don't think regular nausea is from that.
Sorry, No help here.
I do the same thing when my sinuses are giving me problems. I will wake up sick at the stomach and sometimes I will vomit. Hope you find an answer soon.
