So here is the deal- I have a almost 2 year old who is in day care, a 8 year old in school, and a 5 year old nephew that comes over everyday and stays weekends. I work at a dentist office, my husband works in an office and goes to school. We are constantly sick- i have never been sick so many times in my life since my lo was born. I remember getting sick quite a bit when my 8 year old started school but not as much as now. Since my baby was born we are sick at lease once or twice a month. colds, flu, stuffy nose, we get it all. In the last 6 months we have gotten the flu twice and the cold at least 4 times. We all had broncitis as well this last month. We do not share cups or food, we wash hands, sanitizer is all over our house. I work at a dentist office so i'm so into washing my hands etc. I'm up for promotion so I am really trying to be on point at work and not miss days. If one of the kids get sick we miss work, and its just a mess. HELP. i need sugesstions.. thank you

What can I do next?

Thank you ladies for the answers :)

My Son is in a in home day care but there is about 10 little one's there so the germs get passed all the time! The teacher tells me she always has at lease one sick child. She does lots of hand washing and sanitizing toys as well. I guess your right its just having a 2 year old in day care! ugh. I do not take vitamins neither does my husband. My kids to take some gummy vitamins but i dont think they are really working! Time to re-evaluate!

Thanks again very appreciated.

A.,
We use the same vitamins as Patty W. and I highly recommend them.
Stay away from Flintstones and other synthetic vitamins. They contain more bad stuff than good--like coal tar.

I think, with kids, it's a matter of building up a little resistance. I'm sure the 2 yr old is getting everything that comes down the pike at daycare. I'll bet the 5 & 8 year old have stronger resistance.

What about Emergen-C? They are little packets with extra Vitamin C that you mix with water. You, your husband, & the 8 yr old could take it (My 8 yo does). Not sure about your 5 yo...but he can take a Flintstone! Couldn't hurt.

It seems to me that some years were worse than others for being sick. Here's to a better 2011/2012!

I suggest you build your immunity through supplementation. My husband and I used to be sick all the time. He had sinus infections constantly...... until we got on the right vitamins. If you are interested write me a note and I'll send you a link privately. This is my business and it is not allowed on mampedia.

I can feel your pain. I remember the whole family going to the doctor one time and I was begging for them to help us. Ended up I tested positive for A and B flu virus while trying to care for my sick family.
Have everyone take vitamin D3 in your family. Kids should take at least 1000 a day and adults 2000. Remember it's D3 and not just vitamin D. Also keep some Elderberry in the house and take it at the first sign of sickness. For the flu symptoms take Boiron Oscillococcinum as soon as you feel any aches and pains/fever. It won't stop it but it will stop the virus from multiplying and only take a fraction of time then it would if you let it "run its course". Some people well say it's snake oil. I don't care what it is as long as it helps us :) Also keep up with the good ole multivitamins.
Best Regards,
C.

One thing that may help is saline nasal sprays. Not many people know this but, keeping your nasal passages moist helps you to stay healthy. If your nose dries up, it can't do it's job of filtering out germs when you breathe. Once your child starts school, getting sick is part of the game, but this may help with the amount of times you do get sick. Good luck!!

Welcome to having a 2 year old in day care. When our daughter was in we were sick constantly since being out she hasn't has as much as a runny nose in 6 months (even through the winter months!) my suggestion would be to find an at home daycare provider. They tend to have less kids and are a bit cleaner. Do all the homeopathic stuff like echenacia (sp?) and good luck!

It sounds like it is time to rebuild the immune system. Make it stronger and you won't get sick.

I educate individuals how to turn their home into a wellness home. If you are interested in learning how email me and I will show you how. There will be an event with one of our doctors tomorrow the 21st in San Jose if you want I can send you the info where and when.

Good luck.

Sounds like you're completely on the right track w/ the frequent handwashing, not sharing food, etc.... I can only add to boost your good nutrition in the house and for everyone to be getting a healthy amount of sleep in a cool and very dark setting. I don't know what it is about this last cold/flu season, but we've all been sick in our house on and off over and over. I missed an entire week of work with the flu and I've never been out of work for a week in my entire life! Also, remember that kids get on average about 12-14 colds a year. Good luck!

Everyone in my family has been sick for the past 2.5 months continuously since my older son started attending pre-school (only 3 hours 2 times a week. good thing they didn't have spot for more hours because it'd be a waste of money). I hope this is a season that will pass soon.

I know this is going to sound way out there, but have you been tested for allergies? I am extremely allergic to dust, among other things, and several years ago I went through the same thing. Seemed like I was sick all the time. I saw an allergist and got my allergies in check and now (knock on wood) I rarely get sick. I had my children tested as well and their allergies are not as bad as mine, but are managed with OTC meds and they are much healthier too. I've been doing allergy shots for 5 years and it completely changed my life! No more bronchitis, no more sinus infections, no more constant runny nose.

Try opc3. It's a powerful antioxidant. It fights free radicals and frees your immune system up to fight sickness and disease. My kids and I take it along with ultimate aloe juice and we never get sick.
Check out coliryan.com. Free shipping until the end of April.
I also agree with the others about vitamins. There is a survey on this site too called a nutra-physical which will help you chose the right vitamins for you and will help you customize one.
Feel better.

Hello
I didn't get a chance to read all your responses, so if this is a double, sorry!

When anyone in my house gets sick I clean. Even when I was working 40 hours I would clean everything from the sheets, to the bathroom, to the blinds. Open the house up and let it air out. My husband is the one who gets sick the most, and it would stop him from getting sick. I also change pillow cases every day when someone is sick.

Best of luck on staying healthy and getting the promotion!

Look up Usnea - one good source is WikiPedia. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usnea .

You can get it at any herbal or natural foods store. Very effective, yet safe even for pregnant moms.

Great for FAST treatment of a wide variety of burly problems, including upper respiratory, urinary, sinus and tooth infections. A powerful antibiotic and antifungal used for generations.

Use recommended number of drops in H20, per recommended number of times per day and you'll see some pretty remarkable changes in just days.

I have a 2 and 4 year old and our entire family was sick constantly for about 3 years. My husband and I are healthy people and we went from about 2 colds per year to 3 bouts of stomach flu a year, 4-5 colds, we both have gotten strep, etc. once we had kiddos. In addition, my sinuses, which have always been shakey, have been REALLY bad since the birth of my first kid. I'm up to about 6 sinus infections per year that require antibiotics. This past weekend I was desperate and decided to try the apple cider vinegar cure. Supposedly, it loosens mucous and allows your body to heal itself. Gulp TBSP of apple cider vinegar in 8 oz of water 3 times a day. I can only tell you this: within 12 hours the nasty sinus mucous thinned out, within 24 hours I felt like a new person, and within 2 days it was gone. No doctors, no antibiotics. I also do daily NeilMed sinus rinses. Good luck! You are not alone!

I agree with Caroline R regarding the vitamin D3. When you are actually sick you can take highter doses of it. The pill form for adults actually goes up to 5000 IUs. Also oil of oregano is an immune booster. It comes in liquid & capsules. If you don't like spicy then I suggest you get the capsules. I would just use it for the adults.

Oh, sister in sickness. Lend me your ear. I have been sick more than not the last 14 months and with awful stuff like the stomach flu and strep and you name it. Finally, we just got a terrible cold that I might have called the flu were it not for the fact that we had flu shots already, and I went to war against it. I started drinking Emergen-C 2x's a day and I've been doing the Neti-Pot and believe it or not, I cut the duration of the cold in half. My 2 year old and husband continued to be sick with nasal head coldy stuff and I was chipper as a lark.

I am going to keep up the Emergen-C habit and the neti-pot, also doing a probiotic, and maybe some other things as I go. I already feel better on the average, less run down, but I think prevention in terms of health (getting lots of rest-HAH!) I've been going to bed at 8:30 some nights and catching up with the house on the weekend. Make yourself a priority until you can get your feet back under you.

Good luck to you (and me!)

That sounds horrible.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can. The only thing I would suggest is adding a good vitamin and especially a good pro-biotic -- not just yogurt, but the vitamins found in the fridge section. Once your gut is healthy, all sort of falls into place. And when I feel a cold coming on, I ramp up on zinc which my body loves. Yours may like vitamin C or echinacea (sp??), but give zinc a shot all around for the family. Your natural food store will have these items for sure. Good luck and good health :)

maybe your body isn't able to build up resistance because of all the sanitizing you're doing.

also, try some herbs and vitamins to build your immune system from the inside.

good luck!

Well, I don't know if this tidbit is going to make you feel better or worse, but my 17mo daughter (who is NOT in day care of any kind) has had a runny nose I swear since she was born! We get a break every once in a while, but between teething, the magnolia in our front yard that blooms 3 times/year, and the climate changes we go through when we visit Ohio for 2 weeks 4 times per year, I'm sick of being sick, too! Funny thing is: my 4.5you that IS in preschool is NEVER sick. UGH!
