Sick of My Hair!!!!

My hair is on my nerves so bad! It is very dark brown, and curly (stays frizzy in the summer) I live in Texas and the heat is coming fast. I know I'll probably wear it in a ponytail alot, but it looks like a big poof ball in a ponytail right now. Soooo, I'm thinking of getting it straightened so I don't have to deal with the frizz this summer. I also want to jazz up my color. I just need some new ideas I guess...any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I'm a hairstylist, and I do the pony tail thing too. Buns and low ponytails are very popular right now... there are lots of cute ways you can pull it back and still look stylish.

As for color, why not add in some soft and subtle caramel pieces? To help with the frizz, I suggest Sebastion's Potion #9. Love that stuff! I'm in Houston too, so I know about that heat/humidity. You could get the Keratin deep conditioning treatments as well.

I'm did a hair post today actually on my blog, that showcases lots of easy ways to pull the hair back, most of them have tutorials as well:

Don't fight the curl. Please, please, please go to the Styling Hutch in Plano. They specialize in curly hair. Their cuts make ALL the difference. I've been going for a year now and I think I've felt like straightening my hair twice. They use Ouidad products and techniques. My hair has never looked better. They show you how they do everything too. It was a life changing experience.

I think the first hair cut is on the high side, around $120, but I only get haircuts every 4-5 months now, so it evens out. The first time they actually cut your hair twice, so it takes longer, and they also walk you through it all.

I cannot say enough good things about them!

I have curly hair too, and live in Texas. I do pull it back lot, but that's b/c I just don't like it in my face. I tried the straight look, but it just didn't look right. It was too much work, and it'd get poofy anyways with the humitity, so there was no chance at a Hollywood straight hair makeover for me. I keep with the curls.
What I do that seems to work most days:

1. Shampoo
2. Conditioner (I use a good deep conditioning about once a week, regular stuff on the other days. And I wash my hair only every other day.)
3. Wide-tooth comb while hair is damp.
4. Sally's Beauty supply sells "Potion no. 9" - a leave in conditioner. It's in a white bottle with black letters (Generic brand). I use a dollop of that all over my hair.
5. Cocktail of gel and mousse all over my head, tossing my head upside down and making sure to get product all over.
6. Let it air dry, scrunching it every now and again so the gel doesn't make it crunchy. In a rush, I might blowdry with a diffuser.

My hair is the same way. This year I decided to do a really cute short haircut, long enough to pull it back if I want. I also dye my hair black. It gives it a wonderful glossy beautiful look. It helps that my hair used to be black but then fadded to a dark weird brown. Odd, I know. Perhaps look up short haircuts and see if any of them strike your fancy and ask a stylist if it would work with your hair.

I have brown frizzy hair as well. I am 44 so have tried everything. The harsh straightners will dry out your hair and it won't shine on a dry day. I like the keritin treatments. It doesn't eliminate frizz but it helps and is like a long lasting deep conditioner. From my experience I don't let them texturize or cut any layers shorter than my chin. Good luck and if you find something that works, please share. Also you can get the keritn treatment at the salon or find in stores and do it at home.

I don't have this problem, but my sister did. She actually straightened her hair and got it cut short. It has helped her so much. They cut it short in the back and then left layers on the side longer to fit her face shape. She looks adorable in it!!! She also got 2 or 3 different highlights in hers (she had dark brown hair) and I believe she got carmel and a lighter blonde in it so it would stand out. I love her hair and if I had a picture, I'd show it to you.

I would talk to your beautician to see what they recommend. That's why we give them good tips!!!

You might try the Brazillian Blowout. I have extremely thick, coarse, very curly hair, and with the Brazillian Blowout it makes it pretty manageable. I didn't love it the first time I had it done, but now I'm pretty happy with it. If you google it, you'll get tons of information. It's a healthy treatment, so you can still color and highlight your hair (I do both). Have fun!

Curly hair needs more moisture than straight hair. It is important to make certain you are using the right products and not over washing the hair. Products the saturate the hair with moisture are best. Stay away from products with alcohol which only dries the hair out.

If your hair is long enough to put in a pony tail, you would be best served by using a wide tooth comb to comb through at night with a leave in conditioner. Then take sections of hair and braid them loosely and band the ends. In the morning take out the sections and rake through with your fingers.

Deep conditioners and hot oil treatments are your hairs friends along with using a wide tooth comb over brushing or some other kind of comb.

Be careful with coloring hair because it can also be very drying for curly hair. Keep you hair super moisturized and stay away from gels and hair sprays they are not the friend of your curly hair.

I hope this helps. Beware the Brazillian blowout. It is made with chemicals which are cancer causing and dangerous. It has been banned in most of Europe because of the negative effects on health.
