I was trying to figure out side jobs I could do from home. Currently I work part time at night during weekends. Dh works nights full time during the week. It's too hard for me to get a second job because I have my one year old with me during the week. And my older child is at school till 4.
So I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? Maybe suggestions?
Would you consider looking after another toddler/preschooler? My friend took in a toddler when she was a stay at home mom, and it worked quite well for her.
I have sold tons of things on Craigslist. If I found things at garage sales, I would resell them for a markup. You can also find lots of neat things at thrift shops.
My dd's summer "job" is to sell all of her American Girl Dolls and other things she doesn't use anymore. It's actually been a fun project. She uses her phone to take pictures.
So far, she's making some good money! I am listing them for her.
You can do child care at your local gym. Most gyms allow you to bring your children with you. Not only do you get paid, but you usually get free gym membership and your kids gets playmates. You can also do child care from home. Again, you get paid, and you provide your child with a playmate.
Why exactly can't your husband watch the kids while you work days during the week?
Once both the kids are in school you might want to consider working in the school cafeteria.
It's great for keeping you on the same schedule as your kids - when ever they have a holiday (or a snow day) where school is closed - you have it off too.
They are usually pretty flexible if you have to stay home with a sick child.
Until then maybe you can work at a day care or babysit.

Lands End also has off-site customer service employees and other companies do the same. I think your biggest issue will be the 1 year old, because with most of these types of jobs you must have dedicated blocks of uninterrupted time without background noise, which means you would need childcare.
My first home office job was a modification of the full time on-site job that I had before my firstborn came along. I didn't not interact with customers and I didn't need quiet time blocking, so it was no problem to do paid work while taking care of my kids. I could do the work at any time that worked for me so long as I made deadline. If you have prior work experience and have proven your worth to a company, you can contact your old bosses and ask them to let you know if anything that suits comes up.
What are some of your skill sets? I'm thinking of dabbling into translation since it seems that something I can work from home. Aside from that everything seems to be from offices...
It's really hard to guess at this without any info on what you're good at, what you like, and what kind of hours you're talking about. What are your skills? What is your current job? What do you hate? I'm sure you aren't suggesting a job you can do with your 1 year old around - I'm sure you know there is no such job, unless you're going to do child care/in home babysitting. If you can elaborate on some preferences, it would help.
Your husband needs to sleep during the day so it's important the house is quiet. He needs to get his rest.
I'd say you could find a full time day job and put your little one in child care. Almost everyone can qualify for assistance paying for child care if you are even lower middle class. You might even find a job working in child care and then your cost will be less than half even without assistance.
