Signs of Teething for a 2 Month Old?

I would suggest putting the pacifier up in my opinion. This is because sometimes when babies are starting to teeth they will perfer their hands or teething rings that are cold (keep in frig) to help sooth the gums. If you son is refusing the pacifier take advantage of this. It's easier to break him of it now rather than later in life.

All I can say is, the sooner they give up the pacifier, the better off both of you will be. My first I took away at 1 year old and he was such a busy body that he didn't really care. My second gave it up on her own at 6 months. And my third, she is 14 months and still has it. It has been pretty tricky trying to wean her off of it.

My daughter broke her first two teeth (bottom center) at 10 weeks old so it is VERY possible. Not really fussy but chewing on hands and drooling to the point of soaking her shirt!

I have raised 5 children . My advice would be to get him some of those teething rings. You can put them in the refridgerater to cool them so it is soothing on little gums.

My son got his two bottom teeth at 3 months! He was spitting up constantly! Now at 7 months, he has 4 on bottom and 4 on top, and the spit up has decreased a lot! He still uses a 0 to 6 month pacifier, he won't take a bigger one, I really don't know why the size of the pacifier would matter. Good luck, and be happy that maybe the teething will be over earlier than most babies!

It is completely possible. My next door neighbors kids all had 4 teeth by the time they were 4.5 months old. Thier youngest son who is 1.5 years younger then my daughter had more teeth then she did on her first birthday.

My son got his first 2 teeth at 4 mos and had all by 10mos! I would let him eat his fingers and give him a cold washcloth to chew on (supervised of course) if he is uncomfortable.

A., My 9month old starting with teething symptoms at 2 months also. Her first tooth just emerged a couple of weeks ago. She has 4 more ready to burst. It still may be a long road for your little guy. Don't worry about the pacifier. He can't lose his hand in the middle of the night. Hooray for the hand!!! Things to soothe - Sassy teething fish chilled of course; damp cloth; anything rubbery, not plastic. Good luck!!

While it's not impossible for him to be starting his teething at this age, I think it's probably more likely he just found his hands. At 10 weeks they don't have a lot of control over their drool (or any for that matter) and don't know to swallow it and, well, YOU try putting your hands in YOUR mouth for a while and not swallowing and see how much drool you have! LOL!

I don't think you need to move up on pacifiers. Pacifiers will not solve this problem - it has nothing to do with them.

Oh, and let him chew his hands if thats what he wants to do. He's figuring out how to control them and put them where he wants them to be. Just put some of the cotton infant bibs on him and let him go at it for a while (the bib will save you from changing his wet shirt so often!).

children start teething as early as 8 weeks, but that doesn't mean they are going to pop a tooth through. it's a long and very painful process. when my daughter started to teeth, she stopped using her paci all together and switched to her thumb. some kids just prefere their fingers. hope this helps...

Hello, it sounds like he wants something harder to chew. That's what helps the teeth to push through his gums. I used the frozen pacifier, hard plastic, and beleive it or not, an old wise suggestion, was a leather strap. I brought a leather belt and sure enough my son loved it, teeth pushed through quickly. (now I'd never say that's the best thing in the world--but it was and I never let anyone see them with it--it was hard it got dirty and couldn't be cleaned, stayed wet, etc. but it worked.

I don't necessarily think he is going to start teething. My daughter Grace (7-1/2 months old) drooled like mad and had her hand in her mouth for about 3 months before she got her first tooth. I guess some are bigger droolers than others!

It has been a long time since I had any children teething, but I think that the advice my old pediatrician gave me was let him teeth without a pacifier. I had three boys and only one used any pacifier. Two of my boys were happier using their hands as they did not fall out of their mouths and yes, your son could be teething...one of my boys had two teeth by 4 1/2 months old. I remember calling the pediatrician and asking him about the drooling and teething....his response was it is possible, but not very probable....surprise when we went for the 5 month check up my son had two teeth. This was not the case with my other two kids....they were more in the time frame of the baby books.

Our son started around the same time doing the same thing. We ended up taking him in and they said he was teething. Some kids start very early.Our son is now 9mts old and has 8 teeth. Cold pacifiers work great. Good Luck!

I'm J., the mother of 2 kids, 7 & 4. I saw your question, and I have to say that I have a friend, Michelle, who had a baby with teeth at 4 months old and another who had teeth at 5 months. So, to answer your question - yes it may be teeth...

Just a question - has your baby been checked for ear infections? I have a daughter that never ran a fever, pulled on her ears, or anything. The only way I knew she had an ear infection was if she coughed for days.

It's perfectly normal for your son to be teething so young. My son (now 10 yrs old) did, and younger daughter (18 months old) both started teething at 2 months.

Even the number of tooth eruptions (and symptoms) differ from child to child.

Oldest child (drooled 1 month; first tooth 6 months; slight fever.

Second child (drooled 4 months; cut 4 teeth at a time; pain, no fever.

Youngest child (drooled 4 months; cut 8 teeth at a time; fever, diarrhea, cold. Currently cutting 8 more.

There's no set schedule for development.

My daughter cut her first tooth at 3 months old. Everyone thought I was crazy when I told them that she was teething. I even had to start her on jar food sooner. She was eating french fries by 5 months old. It does happen!

It could be signs of teething even that young. Check the gums to see if they have become almost translucent, usually the bottom front come first. My daughter began "teething" that young as well but had a complication with her teeth. She did the same thing, but then the teeth never surfaced. She got her other teeth after that, but the 2 on the bottom never came? We took her to the pediatric dentist. They x-rayed to make sure her permanent teeth were there, and they were. He said that it was very possible that her front baby teeth were underdeveloped and just "slivers" of teeth. They surfaced and fell out without us even knowing. He thought it could have been a complication of me being put on anti-biotics for Strep during my pregnancy, at the exact time those teeth were forming. Everything is fine now though! She's 8 years old with perfect teeth!

it's not crazy! our daughter had her first two teeth at three mos. the terrible thing is they are so young they can't hold a teether ring... you have to do it for them! good luck. also, my husband teethed at an early age... so what's your family history? that will be a good indicator if he's really teething.

That is the age when my daughter discovered her thumb. I believe that it is just part of discovery. He is discovering his hands, I wouldn't fret too much about it.

Yes you can move up onto the 3 month and up pacifiers. My daughter did alot of drooling and eating of the fingers and her fists at that age and didn't teeth until 7 months old. Every baby is different. All I can say is that our doc told us its normal for them to do that at that age b\c they are noticing that they have fingers and can pick up those fingers and put it to their mouths and now they really got the sucking thing down so it works out perfectly for them. If she was teetthing it usually starts w\ them being a little more fussy than normal.

My oldest daughter started the teething process very early, they would start to come up and then go back down. I'm pretty sure it started right around the time I went back to work after my leave - that was about 6/8 weeks. She didn't cut her first teeth until she was 6 or 7 months though. The doctor said that was okay. She was very picky about her pacifiers though, and it was a hard to find style at the time. We found other items for her to use, like the teething toys/rings that you could put in the fridge or she would chew on a rattle if she had it. I would say it's possible that he's teething. The pacifier would make much of a difference - but you could try it. The next size up may be to big for his mouth, or it might be perfect.

Anything is possible. My husband has a friend who was born with teeth! Do what you feel is right!

Some babies drool forever before you see a tooth, but one of mine had 2 teeth at 4 mos. Another was 14 months with her 1st tooth! If you are nursing, your baby probably doesn't need a pacifier. Just nurse him when he wants to nurse. If he can soothe himself with a finger or thumb, that's better. You can't lose those! Only 1 of my breastfed babies would take a pacifier. The fussiest one would spit it across the room!

It has been awhile since I had a little one teething, but from what I can remember it sounds like that whats going on. I would invest (if you haven't already) into some of the harder rubber teething rings. It will feel good on your little ones gums. As for his age and teething, it is possible. I had an ex sister in law who was born with teeth already in her mouth, and every child develops differently.

Maybe he just discovered that he has hands and he can control them. My daughter did that at about that age. It is good news because now he can find his fingers and soothe himself when he wants to instead of you having to find the pacifier for him. It could be teething but like you said it seems early for that.

Teeth can go up and down for weeks but it is possible to cut teeth this early. My son cut 4 teeth at 12 weeks old (2 top and 2 bottom). Chewing on a damp clean washcloth is also soothing plus catches the drool. Good luck!

Some (few) babies are born with teeth and some don't get any until after a year. There is no specific time frame. I would say if baby prefers his hand and he's happy...let him chew on it! LOL

Both my kids started teething at that age. The good news is that it came in spurts instead of constantly. It may be that his gums are just getting irritated. If he is like my sons in a few days it will get better and then you will have a couple of weeks until the next onset. I've been dealing with these spurts for 6 months now and my son is just about to get his first teeth. It is so hard to see him teeth for so long, but he has been so good about it. I massage his gums when he gets bad and it does seem to help. There is not much more you can do at that early age.

I also have a two month old who is doing the same things that your baby is. Is it possible that he is teething? yes, but the saliva glands begin to work at about 2 months and developmentally he is discovering his hands and how to control them. I don't remember exactly how old my other girls were when ther got their teeth but I do know it was early!

Hello, My children are much older now, but my oldest daughter now 12 teethed very early. I never gave any of my children pacifiers. They would have chew toys that you could put in the frezzer for teething babies. When they would put their hand in their mouth I would just remove it and give them something else. orajel for babies is good for soothing too, but don't over do it use it more during sleepy time so he can be comfortable. I know it sounds crazy but one of my sons got his first tooth at 2 months. The dr said it happens quite a bit.
