Silly Putty

Just plain old peanut butter.....Rub it in let it sit and wipe up...Use a little hot soapy water...That'll do it for you!

use ice. Just like gum or peanut butter. It hardens..you can pick it out in little chunks.

Try WD40....just be sure to clean spot afterward. This also works great for gum in hair or anywhere else.

Solumel or Melaleuca (high grade tea tree oil) oil will get it out. Let it sit on the putty for a few minutes because the oil is penetrating and it will start breaking down the putty from inside. A washcloth or a soft toothbrush will help!

Have you tried ice or peanut butter? That my work.

Depending on the color of your carpet (light colors are better for this idea), but plain ole' baby oil. Use your fingers, and try to get below the stain (under the putty if you can) and work it upward, kind of twisting your fingers on the carpet fibers as you lift! Works great, best of luck. Follow with a hot wet washcloth and some clear detergent!

I believe that I read that WD-40 will take it out. I would test it on a piece of carpet you can't see somewhere to see if it stains.

Have you tried putting ice cubes on the silly putty and freezing it? It works with gum so maybe with silly putty too? Good luck!!

Ice. Put ice on it and when it hardens you can break it off easier.

Luckily, I have never had the experience of Silly Putty getting stuck in the carpet. Mostly, marker and/or paint stains. My girls are still so fascinated with Silly Putty "copying" the Comics that they always use it over news paper (as mothers, we occasionally do get a break!). That is, when they don't roll it up in a ball to bounce it...

So, I searched the internet for a little help... Here's the ice method from ehow.com:

The best method to date is the ice method. When gum or silly putty is on clothing I stick them right in the freezer but with carpet this is not an option. You can rub the area with an ice cube and it gives the same effect. Or if you lazy like I am by the time the kids get into bed, I always keep an extra bag of frozen peas around for an ice pack that you can lie over the area and allow it to freeze without all the rubbing. When you come back to the area the putty should be rock hard. You can begin removing the larger pieces just by breaking the clump. You may have to refreeze the area over and over as your warm fingers will only allow you a little time to work. Once the majority of the putty is removes a pair of tweezers will be your friend. Pulling at the side of the putty rather then the carpet fibers you will be able to remove the last bits.

I believe that if you take some ice, and freeze it.
I always heard that freezing it would make it release
from anything. So I hope this works for you.

Tip #1: I actually did it - just now. I used Goo Gone Sticker Lifter following the directions. I scrubbed a LOT. Then I used super hot, soapy water. That was what seemed to really do it, but the Goo Gone loosened it up first. Then I rinsed it well. It will never be perfect, but since the carpet is beige with brown flecks and a medium pile, it will be pretty much invisable unless you know where to look. The whole process took nearly an hour for a 1 inch spot.

Tip #2: Now, this is from a 30 year old male. My little two year old got silly putty into our carpet. It was awful. I used the previously mention method: goo be gone and hot, soapy water. A little goo remover and hot water and presto. All gone. It took 10 minutes. This was in a shag style carpet with a ton of silly putty.

Tip #3: I just used Goof Off 2, (water based). Results were literally instant. Silly putty dissolved completely and we blotted the goof off out of the carpet.

Tip #4: For removing silly putty on carpet, I used WD-40 on spot for 10 minutes as recommended on your website but I had no rubbing alcohol so instead I followed with Oxi Clean in hot water, a little rubbing with an old toothbrush, and the silly putty came right out.

Tip #5: Tip #3 worked like a charm. I was absolutely amazed at how fast Goof Off 2 worked. Literally dissolved the silly putty instantly. Thanks!...Holly

Tip #6: My son got Silly Putty in our carpet, used some Basic-H from the Shaklee Home Cleaner Line and a washcloth and within 10 minutes it had come clean. Shaklee rocks!!...Barb

Tip #7: Soak the spot with WD40, let the WD40 sit for 20 minutes, pick the large pieces of silly putty off with a butter knife, take 3 Tsp of Oxi Clean and warm water and pour it on the area, take tooth brush and brush the spot, take a cloth and rub it over the area...Ronda

Tip #8: The Goo Gone worked for taking silly putty out of carpet! It only took about 5 minutes putting Goo Gone on a towel, blotting, and rinsing with hot soapy water. I had to repeat about 2 or 3 times and it's totally gone! Thank you!...

We had the same problem with Play-Dough over the Easter break. My mother-in-law (the guru of all things cleaning-wise) said she would vaccuum up as much as she can and then let it dry. I don't know about silly putty, but Play-Dough dries really hard and then you can scrape it with a credit card once it gets really hard and vaccuum again. Keep that cycle going until it's gone. For wax, like candle wax, put a newspaper over it and iron it. The iron will melt it and the newspaper will absorb it. Not sure if either of those will work, but good luck!

I had great success removing silly putty from my MIL's high pile berber with a GoJo type product. The GoJo is a hand cleaner found in most automotive departments and contains pumice, but there are also degreaser-hand cleaners without the pumice. It worked like a charm and I have used it to remove several other stubborn stains in my daughter's laundry. You just rub it in and rinse it off. It isn't oily and caused no discoloration to the brand-new carpet at MIL's house.

Have you tried possible using a piece of ice and putting it on the puddy to harden it like some people do with gum in hair. Might be easier to get it out?

i am not sure this works, it does for candle wax.....put a cotton dishtowel over the patch, take an iron and iron it off...see if that works.
