Hi all, my ex-husband and I seperated back in March and divorced in September, since he left in March he has not paid any of our marital debt. I have been forced to pay 100% of it by myself. I do have an attorney and she says she is working on it but I am now facing a terrible situation. I have a pretty good job but having to deal with all of the financial burden has placed me in a negative situation. I am $500 short on my rent, have disconnection notices from cilco, cable and utilities and am a payment behind on my vehicle. Does anyone know a place that helps single mothers in my situation with emergency financial help? I have contacted the United Way and they referred me to Tazewood Community but they said they can only help if my cilco gets disconnected. I appreciate any help you can provide for me. This is not a normal situation for me to be in and it is extremely stressful. Also since this all happened my credit rating has dropped tremendously, I need to finance the house I am leasing by the end of the year, if anyone knows of a good mortgage company that finances poor credit please let me know.

What can I do next?

K. i feel your pain. i have been there and cant seem to get out of it. You can try the YWCA in peoria. ###-###-#### they help with rent and water and cilco. if not they maybe able to get you in the correct place for the help. Also community action and also salvation army helps people with cilco, water etc. You have to make choices on what you have. Myself have no cable and phone is limited. The only reason i have the internet is for school. so maybe if you cut back on some of the things that arent needed for neccesities then you can catch up a bit and then when you are fininacialy better off then you can get them back. good luck and i hope that these places can help you.

Check with your local churches for help in paying the mortgage. Also you could try Community Action Agency in Peoria and see where you can go with help on your utilities. I know Cilco can offer you a deferred payment plan to break it down a bit to help. They also can't shut you off if it gets below 32 degrees which we all know is right around the corner, unfortunately. Good Luck.

Dear K.,

First, call Cilco and see if you can work out a payment plan, then if you're in Peoria County, go to the township relief office on Jefferson St. in Peoria and apply for assistance. Go to public aid and let them know your situation and see if you can get immediate cash assistance. I hope this helps. I'll let you know if I find out anything more. God bless you, I know, I've been there.
