Single Mom Needs Local Friends and Freelance Work

Hello other moms!
I am a single mom, full-time student finishing my BA in Interior Design. My son is four, almost five, and we live in Kent, WA. I have recently been thinking to myself, "Why do I feel like I am going crazy so often?" I came to the conclusion it is because I basically have no social life. No friend’s time or me time. I am either taking in school, working, doing homework, housework, paying bills, playing with my son, or.......hmmmmm..What else do I do? :)

My dilema is this: I have been working as a federal work study student for my PT work hours. Well this next quarter there are not enough hours (and I need money to pay bills). I have recently got my business license and have ordered my business cards. As a designer (once I graduate) I will charge a minimum of $100 per hour plus a percentage of the total project cost. For now, as a student, I am looking to provide some freelance work at a very discounted rate of $35 per hour. I have two more years left of school, so this price will last for a while; once I am finished.....the sale is over! :)

Basically, my need is two-fold; I need to find some friends who my son and I can have fun with, and I need to get some clients. Is there anyone out there who can help? Thank you!

What can I do next?

Hey M.. My name is Betsy and I'm a stay at home mom in Kent looking to make some new friends as well. I only have like one true friend, but I never see her because she works all the time. I babysit her daughter a few days a week though.

I feel really alone in the daytime sometimes. I mean the kids are great, (I have 2 kids a boy who's almost 4 and a daughter who just turned 2) but some adult conversation would be great once in a while if you know what I mean.

In the daytime for fun I like to take the kids on walks to the park or along the green river trail because I live on the bottom of the hill by the green river.

Anyways we should get together sometime and let our kids hang out. What's your schedule like? I'm home all day long until around 5pm when I go pick my fiance up from work. I work two days a week, Saturday and Sunday.

P.S.: sorry I don't know anyone who needs a decorator.:(

Hi M.- I so understand what you are feeling, about not having a social life... I am a stay at home mom to 2.5 kiddos and it can be very lonely at times. I used to be a single mom (for 3.5 years) so I understand how that feels too, it can get very overwhelming. Just from your posts it seems we have a few things in common, I am 27 and live in Kent, and work in design as well (fashion design though). I would love to chat with you, and let you know about some great places to find freelance work. you can email me at ____@____.com

take care,
K.

Hi M.. I feel your pain! I am also a full time student with kids (12 and 9.) My family and I just moved to Bellevue and with my college work load and other family obligations, I haven't really had the chance to meet too many people yet either. I know that two years of school feels like a really long time (I have that much time left too) but hang in there. It actually goes faster than you think it will. Before you know it, you'll have more time than you know what to do with :) Also, by the time you finish, your son will be in school. This should help you to meet other moms and network. Until then, if you just want someone to hang out with, let me know! ____@____.com

Hello M..

I'm also a single mom. I'm 28 years old and I have a 3 year old girl. We just moved to Seattle. My move here was a bit complicated but I've gotten the hang of things. I'm also looking for others that are like us. :) Having a bit of a social life is very important, otherwise you might just go insane! ;) Well, I've yet to land a job out here (came from Boise, Idaho), so if you'd like to get together or just correspond for now, email me back.

I look forward to hearing from you,

J.
