I started mine daughter on a sippy at six months and learned that most children will not take formula out of it. We started with juice and then eventually milk.

Sippies typically are introduced b/w 5 and 6 months as infants are very pliable and therefore willing to go to the cup more so than say at 10 months...when they get very attached to the bottle. By a year, forget it, you're gonna have WWIII on your hands if you wait that late to try and switch. I've got a 7 month old that has been experimenting with the cup for about 2 months now...she can hold it easily now and understands how to put it in her mouth, but she doesn't get the concept of putting her mouth tightly around the sippy and sucking. She still tries to lap at it like she does the breast....I'm sure she'll get it eventually. My son, on the other hand just picked up a cup at 6 months and knew exactly how to use it and never looked back....

GOOD LUCK!

I didn't start with a sippy cup until around 11 months...so don't feel pressured to do it! :)

I started my daughter on one when she was 5months. I bought the sippy cups with handles and she loves them! It took her a few weeks until she found she could hold it herself. She is 7.5 months now and I give her 1/2cup juice mixed with wated once a day and one cup of formula once a day in her sippy. She loves it!
Good luck!

I think I started transitioning my daughter to a sippy cup around 6 months. Occasionally I would put a little bit of formula in the cup at a feeding & let her try to drink it from there. If she fussed, I would put it in the bottle and try again another time. I didn't push it too much until maybe 8 months or something.

Also, the Nuby cups with the soft silicone nipples are good for transitioning from bottles. My daughter loved those. Now at 19 months she prefers the cheap The First Years take n toss cups.

Well no six month I know can master a sippy cup, but its good to let them get used to it and learn how to hold it andeventually drink from it. My daughter is almost 7 months old, and I am doing the same thing with her. I would get your daughter a soft spout sippy with handles and let her play with it and learn how to hold it. And sometimes put her milk/juice in it and show her how to drink from it. But it will probably be while before she gets the hang of it. Good luck!

We began using sippy cups around this time w/my son ... along w/the bottle, just to get him used to holding a cup, etc. If you get something w/handles, they do quite well and I think it made the transistion from a bottle to a cup much easier when the time came to be rid of them (around 1 yr).

I have 2 children, and I started mine with sippie cups at about 4 months, just to play with, so they would get used to holding them and seeing them. I would get spill proof stage 1 and just put a little bit of something in it, so it won't be too heavy for them. You might be surprised. I started putting my sons in the floor with his toys and within a week he could drink out of it.
Also, they now have soft spouts which are great for teething babies because they can chew on them for comfort.

That's not unusual at all. Sometimes if an exclusively breastfed baby won't take a bottle, I will encourage a mom to try a sippy cup. I like either the Second Nature transitional sippy cup or the Avent sippy cup.

Yes, 6 month olds use sippys...or at least can try to. Its great to introduce them to sippies at that age. You may have to hold it for her but my youngest figured it out in no time. I prefer the playtex first sipster cups. The handles are long and easy for the baby to grasp. I say go for it, what harm could be done?

I started mine on a sippy cup at 6 months. He didn't start using it right away. I would just give it to him with some water in it and let him play with it. A couple time's I took the little plastic piece out of the inside and let him discover that water comes out. It took a couple months but he eventually figured it out. I tried the Nubby one first and it just didn't work for us.(He would squash down the soft spout and the water would go everywhere. I was also afraid that he would eventually chew the spout off). I switched to the playtex brand with two handles and he seemed to be able to use that kind well. Plus, when he got teeth-he couldn't bite the spout off the cup.
