I have been preparing for the big removal of the bottle for sometime now! My DD loves her NUBY straw cup for water and has been drinking this throughout the day for several months. It is really just our night time bottle that is an issue. She likes to drink her bottle while I read her a bedtime story. The straw cup really isn't a smooth transition for this. I thought that the Nuby love n' care would be great because it is the same shape as a bottle with the soft spout. Wrong! My DD is so frustrated because she has to suck so hard to get anything out! Mommies- any recommendations for a sippy that has a soft spout with any easy milk release? She is already small so I want to make sure that she is still getting the calories! Any advice will be SO appreciated!!!
We had the same exact problem. I think I own every brand of sippy cup! The ones that did the trick for us - the supper cheap disposable types "The first years". I bought them at Albertson's on the top shelf. It comes with 4 cups and they are made so you can throw them away if needed, like cheap Tupperware. They are not my favorite simply because if he tosses it aside the lid will pop off, but they work for him.
We transitioned our daughter from bottles to the Gerber sippee cups. The small ones have two handles (easy to hold) and the spouts are rubberish. There is a valve on the inside of the lid that can be removed for a faster flow. However we found that removing the valve defeats the purpose of the sippee cup because the liquid will run out when tipped.
I actually retuned all those Nubby sippy cups. My child could not drink from it either, so I tried. It was difficult to suck. So I took them back to Walmart. I love Avent. I went out and spent a fortune on those bottles, because they have everything you need to make a transition to sippy cups including adding handles, changing different nipples and sippy spouts. They worked great for all three kids! L.
I also use the Nuby straw cup for water and my daughter does well with it. She doesn't like to drink milk from it as much though. SO I went back on the search for a good cup and I use the playtex stage 3 sipster that I bought at Target. They come in a pack of two. She is 14 months now and weaned from the bottle. She just has milk in the sipster cup and water or juice in her nuby cup. I think part of the reason she likes the sipster cup so much is it looks more like a big girls cup, it has pictures on it that she likes to look at and it is something new. I always put milk in the sipster and water in the nuby so she won't get confused. Hope this helps. You might just need to try a few different cups with her.
We've used the Tommee Tippee Easiflow cups after leaving the Nuby (for leakage reasons). The TT's are good because they don't need to suck hard, they just kind of clamp down (like with nursing) and it flows out. It's surprising to them at first, but they get used to it.
