I am looking for really good sippy cups that don't leak and that you can also take out with you? My daughter is 18 months old. We have tried the nubby ones, and they really leak. Thanks

What can I do next?

Hi Alison, My twins use the Playtex sipsters. They don't leak at all b/c of the valves however the valves and tops should be changed every few weeks. Even though the twins only drink water from them the cover can sometimes be difficult to clean in the crevices. Let them dry out well. You can get replacement valves and covers on their website. I.

The best ones I've found are the Gerber. I give one to my daughter to take to bed so she has water at night and it doesn't leak even if it's upside down and the spout is against the sheets. The Munchkin straw cups are pretty good too. I loathed all Avent ones because they all leak. Definitely avoid those.

Thermos makes an amazing stainless-steel insulated travel cup with a straw, I think it's called "foogo". Straws are better for kids' oral motor skills than sippys, and when the lid on this cup is shut, it doesn't leak AT ALL. It is top rack dishwasher safe, and truly keeps liquids cold for hours upon hours. One day it kept ice in the cup for close to 8 hours! (great if you want to travel with milk).

The playtex insulated sportster cups are awesome. I ended up throwing out all other cups when I found these, easy to clean too. And you can purchase replacements straws at teebop.com. The straw cups are better for their oral development as another mother mentioned and they travel well, especially when they get the hang of closing the top before they put it in their cupholder. My son is 4 and on trips, I sometimes still use these.

Playtex Insulator sippy cups are wonderful and they are BPA free. You can buy replacement tops as well. My dog gets to the sippy cup sometimes when left on the floor, we've lost a few tops. But just ordered more.

Hi Alison,

I tried a few different sippy and straw cups and finally found Foogo (made by Thermos - someone else mentioned it also). They are fairly expensive ($15/cup) but they have lasted me for a year now - still don't leak and haven't broken, The plastic ones kept breaking b/c my little girl isn't exactly gentle - but these have not and in the long run have been much LESS expensive considering the amount I had to buy with the plastic (no matter the brand).

They only ones that I found reliable are the Tupperware ones (one of the reasons I started selling Tupperware is because of the sippy cups!!). However, liquid WILL come out of the sippy tops when the child turns them upside down. So for my youngest I use the sports water bottle that T'ware has. It doesn't leak at all!! I've tried just about every cup and nothing works for me except for the T'ware ones. Good luck!!!

I went through this not long ago. I really like the Playtex sippy cups that look like an adult's travel cup-they don't leak! Whether your daughter would like it is another matter, though.

Thermos has some great ones, some with handles. They also have a sports bottle type. They keep liquids cold for 6hours which is great for road trips and when we are out. We like the ones with handles better. Target & Amazon have them. They are pricier but we use them every day.

I like the playtex ones with a rubber insert. Or the gerber ones with a white plastic anti-spill. However, my daughters fav's are the strawed cups. She's not a big sippy fan, and the sippy's are also anti-spill in the straw.

The playtex insulated cups work great - I'd get a couple in both sizes.

I just got the Avent sports sippy cup 14 ounce size which comes with a snap on and off cap that my son likes to play with and a belt clip attachment which I do not use. So far, it is great. The only thing is (it is for 18 months and up) and my son is 15 months, i wanted to get him started early so he is adjusting to the faster flow of liquid. I like the cup for water so if it spills because he dribbles it won't stain. I think you should try it and see how your kid handles it. I have not found a better cup yet. And it is BPA free.

Alison,
My daughter uses Munchkin brand...they are insulated and never leak, the plugs are smaller and easier to clean and take in and out than some other ones she has, 10 oz so you don't have to refill them as often as the smaller ones, and come in colors or characters...my daughter uses Dora...I got them right in the baby section of Walmart.

I like the Avent ones for going out because they have a lid, so they stay clean in the diaper bag. Also, the spout comes off as a separate piece. I keep an extra spout in a pacifier holder in the diaper bag in case the cup gets dropped (or thrown) while we're out. That way, I can give my son a clean spout and he can still drink. Plus, you can take the handles and the spill-proof valve on or off depending on what your child needs.

My advice is to skip the sippy cups and go straight to straw cups. The take and toss straw cups by The First Years. They are the best.

I think the playtex brand with the hard plastic lids are great. (tall, usually have colorful designs) We have several and they haven't leaked on us yet! You can get them anywhere...Target, Walmart, CVS, Costco, BJ's.

I also like the playtex ones--have had them for well over a year now, and they don't leak. I also had contacted the company and the cups do NOT contain BPA, which is great to know. I have the sipster cups, which are the stage 1. I haven't tried the other stages, because I feel like having the smaller cup insures that I will remember to rinse it or wash it each time it's empty, and refill it with a fresh drink. Figured the cup would get more attention if I had to deal with it frequently--also the sipsters are clear with no design, so you can easily see the liquid inside...
