How old is he? The ones with the handles on each side were easier for my kids to hold when they were very little.

I know when I was trying to teach my kids to use sippy cups, the ones that worked best for my kids where the ones that have handles. I seem to work better for little hands. Good luck :)

We just used playtex with the hard spout but DD isn't a picky kid. Likes simple. I took the valve out and put just a little water in it to give her the idea at first. Just whatever you decide, from then on get JUST that brand for interchangeable parts.

My son would try to drink from just about any cup you gave him. The trouble was that the ones without the valves spill everywhere, and the ones with the soft "nipples" were trouble because he would push the nipple into the cup and create a mess that way too. So, we have been using the playtex twist and lock with great success. They were given to me by a friend with two kids herself, and she doesn't pass along stuff she doesn't like or that doesn't work. I trust her, and they've been doing the job for us! Good luck!
