Sit & Stroll vs Attachable Car Seat "Dolley"

Hello Everyone,
I finally bought our airline tickets to visit family in Hawaii in September. We will be traveling with our 2 yr old son. I was just wondering if any of you have ever used one of the Sit & Stroll car seats for airline travel? I suppose it can be convenient for moving about the airport because of it having a handle that converts it into a stroller. We don't actually own one, so we are going to look into borrowing one if we go that route. I also was curious if any of you have used the attachable car seat dolley instead. Basically, it looks like a furniture moving dolley that somehow attaches to your own car seat that has a handle that also converts it into a stroller. I figured the sit & stroll might be more sturdy, but the dolley would allow us to use my son's car seat that he is already familiar with. For all we know, though, the dolley might just be a piece of cheap junky plastic. Anyways, any comments on either (good or bad) would be very helpful. Thanks!

What can I do next?

Personally it's just more gear to have and collect dust. Save the extra cash and put it in the old college fund. We've traveled a lot with our daughter and In the grand scheme of things it's best to just check your car seat and/or hall it through the airport. It's a work out but the whole ordeal will be over before you know it. We always had good luck getting an extra empty seat on the plane and strapping it on in the plane. For some reason she would associate getting buckled in, like in the car and didn't try to move around so much on the plane. We have a very active child so this was a huge plus. I think it was also easier for her to sleep in her car seat on the plane since it felt like being in the car. Good luck! -LL

I used the "GoGoKidz" Travelmate, that attaches to your car seat, I think that may be the "dolley" thing you are describing. We traveled with our 2 kids, we used that for our 9 month old and our 2 year old, we brought a simple unbrella stroller, I had me and my husband so we both were in charge of a kid. My 9mo old LOVED the GoGo kids...she liked all the attention she got from being in it. and then we could just keep her in her seat for the airplane ride and she slept most of the trip. We did not bring our carseat onto the plane for our 2 yr old, we checked it. However, with the extra charges these days for checked luggage, now I probably would bring it onboard if you are not traveling alone. Both my kids sleep well in their carset and it contains them. My 2yr did well sitting in the regular airplane seat, but I think he would have slept better if we had his carseat. I just brought a bunch of new books and activities that he could do. I brought the DVD but didn't need it until the return trip. I have a friend who has the harness that someone else described and she loves it for her 2 yr old son. The GoGOkidz does have some assembly, and it says you can keep it attached to the carseat while using it on a airplane or car, but we had to remove it each time, which was a little inconvenient, but not too bad. Maybe it depends on your carseat brand. I would say overall, the GoGokidz made our traveling days in the airplane MUCH easier.

Carla,

We went to visit the inlaws for the holidays. I used the Go Go Baby, attachable wheels to the car seat. I liked the fact that we could use her car seat on the plane & in the car. It was cheaper than the stroller. $90. The only problem, which was mild, that occasionally the wheels would slide to one side & be difficult to roll. But I got lots of compliments at the airport on it. There is some assembly required initinally. Then attaching it to the car seat. But not too bad over all, just the crampness on the plane. You just have to make sure that it fits your particlar car seat.

If you want to minimize the things you will 'lug' through the airport and you might travel fairly often - I would look into this http://www.kidsflysafe.com/

It is a harness that you simply attach to the seat and the existing seatbelt on the plane. It is simply straps and is approved for airline travel for kids. SOOO much easier than a carseat (ugh). I have not taken my son on a plane in the past 5 months since he turned 2 -- but when I do I will invest in one of these!

Then, simply take a small stroller or even an umbrella stroller -- keep it simple.

Good luck! Oh -- and enjoy the trip! Sounds great!
