Hi i was wondering at what age do babies start to situp by there self...thank you
My daughter started sitting up at 5 and a half months old.I know its different for every baby though.
My daughter sat up by herself at about 5 months but my friends baby didnt sit up by herself until she was about 6 1/2 months old. She however has started to crawl already and my daughter has not.(the are 8 1/2 motnhs old now) Just remember all babies are different!
I think most babies are sitting up unassisted by around 7 months, but all babies are unique in when they reach certain milestones (and there's always a little give and take with ages when babies do things). Also, I know from having a friend with a preemie baby that it can take a little longer for them to catch up with these things ... they were born early, and sometimes need a little extra time to reach a certain milestone. I would discuss any questions or concerns with your doctor, but not worry too much ... I know I worried all the time with my first child (he's two now), but have been a little more laid back with timetables, eating, etc. with my second (she's 3 months old).
I think I wanted a manual to come with my kids and know exactly when they were going to do this or that and what was "normal." But, I quickly found out that children are very different (even siblings) and "normal" has a wide range. Some kids do certain things earlier than others and vice versa. But, they usually all catch up eventually and it will be hard to remember the things you worried about when they're older.
I would recommend getting a Bumbo seat for your little one if you can. We didn't do so with our first ... FYI, he sat up unassisted at around 7 months. We recently bought a Bumbo seat for our little girl (she was already showing interest in sitting up a lot), and she loves it! The seats allow babies to sit up from about 3 months on. I've had people tell me that after their children used the Bumbo seats that their babies sat up unassisted by 5 months! We'll see ...
Best of luck with your sweet baby girl! Try not to stress too much. I can only say that after having a second and learning to relax a bit more! Ha ha. I was a wreck with my first! ;)
My baby sat up at 5 months, but my cousin's baby sat up at 6 months! Each baby is built differently and progresses differently. I've learned not to compare and just enjoy each stage!
Ashley,
Most babies start sitting up around 6 months but each baby varies. Some may take up to 8 months. My 2nd child started sitting up at 6 months but did not start crawling until 8 months & started walking completely about 14 months.
My 1st child was different...he sat up about 5 months, crawled at about 7 months & walked completely at 12 months, so you just never know.
Hope that helps.
Around 6 months is when babies can sit up on their own. You can also google baby mile stones and be able to find out things too. Another good resource is what to expect the first year...This has tons of info on mile stones such as the one you are asking about....hope this helps! :-)
About 6 months. It may be almost 7 months before she really does it well though. Since your daughter sounds like she was a preemie, it might take her a month or so longer.
Mine was sitting up at 5 mos, but it really varies with each child.
My advice?
Don't worry about when children/infants generally do what. It'll only serve to distress you (and eventually the child) if you feel they're lagging behind.
The truth is that each child focuses on different tasks at different times. Mine's very physically advanced for her age, which I attribute to her sleeping on her belly not her back. Back to sleep -- while important for reducing SIDS risk, is also causing children to reach physical milestones later than babies of other generations where it was safe to sleep on their bellies. Mine isn't as adept in talking or in playing with some toys -- she's just not focused on that at the current time.
Just take a deep breath, relax, and enjoy whatever your child is doing right now. If you'd like to make sure that she strengthens her muscles, just involve her in tummy time play (no, you don't need a pillow toy prop for her) and other varieties of physical exercise.
Don't worry -- she'll get there!
All babies reach their milestones at different times. My oldest starting sitting up alone at 6 months, but my youngest was almost 7 months before he could sit up by himself.
I had my son at 34 weeks and he was behind on alot he just turnd one in march and he didnt sitt up till 10months and he started crawlin at 11 1/2 months so all babys are diff but with her been early it could be a bit..But if you get worried cause she's not i know here in Tn they have something called early inv. They come out a check them in areas to see if they need some help getting to where they shuld be ask your babys doc about some thing like that if your worried..If ya have any qustions feel free to e-mail me ____@____.com
My daughter Kealy was around 7-8 months when she sat really well unsupported. Hope this helps!
My son started sitting up at about 4 1/2 months. I've been told that's kind of early, but he seems to have done everything quick. I think the "normal" age for sitting up is around 6 months.
Hi Ashley,
I think my son was 6 months or older. He sat up a little later then some of his friends his age. He didn't start walking till 15 months. I hope this helps. And I am sorry to hear of your loss. My sister lost a child at 6 yrs old almost 2 yrs ago. It helps to talk to people...especially those who can relate. It may be hard but leaving your child with family for a bit will benefit her. It will help social skills and she won't be so dependent on you cause that will wear you down at some point. I will say a prayer for you and your family. God bless.
