I don't have a son, but I would seriously consider taking him to the hospital, if you haven't already.
Hello, I have a strange question for you. I am the new Mom of a little boy. Unfortunately, I know very little about little boys, so am coming to you with a very strange question. I noticed within the past few days that my six-month old son gets very uncomfortable every time he is on his changing table. He is grunting and thrashing in a way he never has before. Then yesterday I noticed that his testicles are extremely tight and shrunken and hard. They are a also a grayish color they have never been before. They have been like this for his last three diaper changes. Is this normal? I used to have to pick them up to clean underneath them, but they are so tight right now that I can clean see all around that area with no effort. I apologize for the sensitive question, but am getting worried and wondering if I should call the Doctor. But again....maybe this is a normal phase for little boys! Any help would be appreciated! Thank you!
Hello again! I just wanted to write and thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your wonderful advice. The overwhelming consensus was CALL THE DOCTOR! I learned so much from your responses about following my instincts and not being worried about being a nervous nelly mother. I have taken all your encouraging words to heart and will never doubt my instincts again. In the meantime, my son's 'parts' have gone back to normal, but I have an appointment coming up this week regardless to make sure that there isn't a problem that the Doctor needs to be aware of. Especially considering it is such an delicate and important part of his anatomy. Not an area I want to take any chances with! I will update you all again if the Doctor finds anything. Again...thank you for your kind and helpful responses!

I,ve had three boys and never seen what you describe...I'd call the ped. right away. Good luck, hope it's nothing to worry about!
I had a son that went through similar seeming behaviors. I would take him to the dr.
It may or may not be what he had: testicular contortion. The testicle can flip, cutting off blood supply. He needed a surgery.
I do not remember anything like that happening to my son. I would contact your doctor and and explain the condition. They sould be able to tell you if it is nothing serious or that you need to have him seen by his doctor.
I hope that by now you have taken your son to the doctor. Unless the child is cold and his testicles have naturally shrunken into his body for warmth, he needs to be seen by a doctor. Male reproductive organs are very sensitive -- and are especially sensitive to some of the chemicals that are found in our environment now -- and you would never forgive yourself if you waited so long to seek help that permanenet damage was done.
Call your doctor. It should be free and any time you have any questions about your child's health you should feel comfortable calling your doctor. They expect silly questions so never feel like it is too silly. It is worth it. Call.

I don't mean to alarm you, but with a concern like that, I would definitely either just go to your doctor's office and insist on being seen, or call the office and insist on speaking with a nurse. Tell them exactly what you have told us and they should examine him TODAY ASAP! If this fails, consider a clinic or the ER. Good Luck and God Bless you!!

I'm not sure, but it sounds like a possible hernia. I would definitely call the doctor. Especially if he seems to be in pain. For a doctor, no question is a dumb one. I think the doctor would much rather you ask than make an assumption.
I hope the little guy is okay!

I would definitely see a doctor. I don't know what it is, but i have a 7 month old boy and he does not have the problem. Better to get it checked out than have him have problems later on in life.
Hi C.,
No question is too sensative here. You were absolutley right to be concerned and to ask. I have a 16 month old little boy and that is absolutley not normal and if your baby is ever in pain, call immediatley. Always better safe than sorry.
Call your doctor Immediately and insist to be seen immediatley. He needs help asap.
I hope you can get this resolved as soon as possible. Take care and good luck. God Bless you.
p.s. You were right to listen to your intuition. It's almost never wrong when it involves our little ones.
Hi C.,
First of all, don't ever be afrad to ask any questions. that's what we are here for. I agree with the other ladies when they say CALL YOUR DOCTOR. Explain the situation and ask to be seen today. And don't forget to come back and update us.
No need to apologize for the sensitive question. That is why this website is here. To be honest, I haven't heard of this, and I would contact his pediatrician.
Please do not wait, call your doctor ASAP. My theory is when in doubt, to give the doctor a call. It may be nothing and then all you wasted was 5 minutes on a call. Better to be safe though.
Sorry I can't tell u what it is... but u should see a doctor immediately! It doesn't seem normal at all.
I would take him to the doctor
I would call your doctor asap. Since you mention that there is a grayish color, I would get it checked out. Better to get it checked out, have it be nothing and to have over worried then to not get it checked and to be wrong.

I would definately call your ped, any major changes should be s een especially since the color is changing, he may have a hernia.
C.,
That sounds like a problem, I would call the doctor immediately. I have two boys and I have known lots of my friends with boys and have never heard of that. Not to worry you but that could be some underlying condition. I would be curious to know what your pedetrician says.
God bless you

Call your pediatrician now! I'm sure that you'd like to one day be a grandmother, so don't mess with anything that's going on "down there." If your dr's office is as great as mine, they will take you seriously even if it is perfectly normal and you might be over reacting. Otherwise, they will insist you bring him in. Good luck to both of you!
Take your son to the doctor!
Hi C.~I agree with Mary H. It may be a testicular contortion which my ex-husband had years ago(as an adult) and they warned us that it could be hereditary or more likely with our son and told me to always watch him carefully. My ex actually had to have the doctor untwist the testicles which was (as you can imagine) very painful for an adult male. I would call your doctor immediately. Better to be safe than sorry. Please let us know what happened. Good luck and God Bless

The change in color suggests lack of blood to the testicles. I would call your doctor immediately and tell them exactly what you have stated here. DO NOT PANIC - just be forthright in having your son seem immediately.
No question is too sensitive here - we're all here to help each other out.
Take care and please let us know what happens.
Best regards and God Bless
Cheryl
I've never seen this with my 3 boys. I'd say call the pediatrician! Someone in my family ignored an "uncomfortable" testicular problem and now he has one functioning testicle and one prosthetic. There is concern over fertility.
I have a 4 month old who is having the same problem,i took him for his 4 month check up 2 days ago and he was fine!!!!!! I m sooo stressed cuz i hate our er for kids but its sat.......
Thank you for posting this. This exact same thing has happened to my 6 month old son.
Calling the doctor now.
