D.D.
I get that feeling when I have a low-grade fever from a cold. But not just randomly, without other symptoms.
Soooo I have had this issue for as long as I can remember, but am finally going to try and figure out what is causing it. My skin, not muscles just skin will hurt. Almost like a rash. or like I have rubbed it raw is best way I can describe it, and can last few hours or few days. So right now on back of thigh pretty much whole area back there hurts if touched like by clothing, or sheets, or sitting. But like I said, so weird, its just the skin. There is no rash, no redness, nothing. I have not changed my laundry soap. or any soap I use. This has happened to me for as long as I can remember. I thought it was normal, and that maybe caused from something like that, different soap, or maybe it was irritated from clothing, or whatever. I asked my husband if he ever feels like that, and he said never, not normal. So I googled my symptom and it seems that this one thing keeps popping up as a "maybe" possibly. Fibromyalgia. So, I am going to call my doctor today, but thought I would just ask here. I checked into symptoms for it, and actually I have most of them. I am not thinking I have it just cuz I read up on it, but am curious about it, and going to ask my doctor about it at appt. But was wondering, my husband said that NO way I have it due to he had a friend years ago that had it and it was debilitating, you could just tell without him asking that something was wrong. So, has anyone had my symptom, and what was wrong? I know it could be a number of things as simple as lotion used, but just wanting to get info. As far as the fibromyalgia, what were symptoms? I asked my mom if we had history with it, and guess my Aunt is looking into it herself as well. So, just looking for information. Only reason I am even thinking it MIGHT be a possibility, it when I was looking through list of "symptoms" I have had most of them, lots diagnosed is past 3 years. Also know just cuz symptoms match up does not mean you have it, so just "checking" into things right now to maybe bring up at doctors appt. Thanks so much for information.
Edit: Thanks so much for the responses so far. I do have a doctors appt next week, so hopefully will find out some information. My other symptoms, that I have had checked out and have been to doctor for in past few years are, chronic headaches (almost everyday), meds for that, IBS (had colonoscopy) severe leg cramp after walking/jogging, back pain, anxiety, stomach issues like bloating, aching, pain in between shoulders randomly feels like hot fire poker, lasts few min, insomnia, tiredness restless leg syndrome, sometimes stiff in mornings. I pretty much have had these issues, have gone to doctors in past few years for each one separately.

I have had a similar problem for as long as I can remember! Like if I itch some benign spot on my back it will hurt like I have a bruise under the skin. I have been told by some that it could be fibromyalgia but others say it could be as easy as dehydration or just sensitve skin. Yours sounds a little worse than mine, but I just wanted you to know that you are not alone! I wish I had an answer for you but alas- I have not done enough research for myself yet!
Good luck- I hope you find the answer
I'm glad you'll be asking your doctor about it.
The only other thing that came to mind was shingles.
Apparently sometimes you can get the pain without getting the rash.
They call it zoster sine herpete
I don't know anything about fibromiagla but I imagine some people can have it worse than others.
Googling 'painful skin no rash', Lupus also comes up.
It's also possible to get Lime disease without getting a rash.
Really there are too many factors to guess at.
It could be anything.
Jot everything down you can think of (symptoms, did you ever have chicken pox, have you gone hiking or been anywhere a tic might have bit you, etc) and try to let your doctor figure it out.
Good luck and I hope what ever it is is easily treatable!
Chances are Fibro is not the issue here. I'm not a doctor, so I cannot say with any certainty, and of course your post is very limited in information.
But, that said, Fibromyalgia typically has either chronic pain, chronic fatigue, or both. In order to be diagnosed as Fibro, not only do a certain number of symptoms need to be present, but they need to be at a certain severity level.
There are also "pressure points" that are specifically mapped on the body that need to be responsive.
Many people have symptoms that are also recurrent in patients with Fibro, but do not meet the other criteria. For example, you may have migraine headaches, TMJ & scent sensitivity, but lack the widespread, chronic pain & tender points.
Your PCP is a good place to start, & they may refer you to a Rheumatologist for further evaluation if Fibro is suspected as a cause. Otherwise, blood tests can be done to rule out other diagnoses (there is no specific blood test for Fibro) as well as other symptoms that may more accurately point to other causes for the symptoms you described above.
Good luck, & I hope for you that Fibro is not the diagnosis, but instead something less drastic & more easily treatable. T.
Along with talking to your doctor, you might take a close look at your life and see what is irritating you. We are now learning a great deal about the mind/body connection and you could be manifesting a physical symptom that has an environmental cause. This cause could be someone or something around you and it will also have a thought/belief component to it as well.
A great book that recently came out is Mind Over Medicine by Lissa Rankin, MD. She lays out really clearly her own journey through the discovery of modern medicines blinders when it comes to belief and environment and their obvious effects on our bodies. She also lays out a really clear process for healing.
I'm with the first respondent - I get that feeling when I have a fever or just a virus - often I notice that symptom before all others. If this is going on long term with no break, I think you'll learn a lot going to the dr. Keep us posted.
I was diagnosed with fibro about 3 years ago. My mom has it, too, but she never knew what it was until I was diagnosed. She was misdiagnosed for over 30 years.
I knew what I had before my doctors did - they of course agreed once they did all the "tests" (pressure points, etc). The thing that sent me to the doc was that every time I put on lotion, it felt like I was bruised. When I would touch my leg/arm, it was so tender it literally felt like the entire thing was raw/irritated/bruised. I googled it, and sure enough, I found the list of fibro symptoms. I had every single one. I broke down crying, because I knew I had finally found what was wrong. I had never come across another diagnosis that was so dead on with my symptoms.
My symptoms: daily pain in the shoulder blade area, like a VERY deep buring pain that doesn't get relief from much, not even deep massage. Hot showers and mucinex are my life savers. I have all the pressure points except the chest area. If you press on my hip on any given day, I could almost vomit from the pain. It is so intense it shoots down the entire side of my body when pressed.
Headaches, chronic fatigue (as in I could honestly sleep at my desk each day but I get through it with coffee), slight paralysis of the face (so slight it is not noticeable at all except by me), very stiff neck with pain in the morning, and usually continuing throughout the day. Where the neck and head connect, oh dear God I can barely stand to touch it. I feel like I have arthritis is the best way I can describe it - achy often, joints hurt. I have sensitivity to medications and wheat/gluten (no allergy, just don't tolerate it well). I have IBS and anxiety, trouble sleeping.
I sound like a hot mess, right?! I really do manage it quite well, and no one call tell I am sick. I take mucinex, stay away from wheat, eat healthy, exercise regularly EVEN WHEN I hurt, and stay positive. If it turns out you have this, pm me and we can chat. I have a wealth of knowledge!
I get that feeling with a fever or other sickness. It's miserable. I hope you find relief soon. I can't imagine living with that feeling all the time.
There is something called Tactile Allodynia that might accurately name what you describe. Google that term and see if the symptoms fit. TA can be associated with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue or even just migraine headaches. For me, my outer arms, outer thighs and the sides of my trunk (armpit to hip) and waist are very sensitive to being touched. For example, if I scratch my arm or waist, I feel the sensation for several minutes and it stings. If one of my kids is laying on me on the couch and used a bony body part like an elbow to shift position, I can see stars and cry out in pain. Being poked or tickled hurts. I've mentioned this to my PCP and she notes it, but right now agrees that it doesn't look like fibromyalgia (there are distinct pain points for that which I don't have) so it's just something to watch.
Have you had this since you were a kid? Were you one of those kids who could feel tags in your shirts and seams in your socks? If so, I wouldn't think it's fibromyalgia because most people with fibro have no symptoms as children and it develops as an adult.
One approach I'm taking is to reduce inflammation in by body via a restricted diet. I feel that once I tackle the obvious things like being overweight, any other weird things that don't disappear will be worth looking into. Your doc should be able to have at least an informative conversation with you and let you know whether or not it's worth pursuing a diagnosis and treatment or not. Some of these vague neurological and auto-immune things take a long time to accurately diagnose, most often by the process of elimination. My mom was diagnosed with fobromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome 20 years ago after 10 years of pain and exhaustion and now they're thinking that maybe she has chronic Lyme disease instead. It's a very frustrating process!
I think it's a good idea to check with a doctor. You don't say what your other symptoms are, but this can also be a symptom of some autoimmune disorders. It could be nothing, but best to have it checked. It can also take a while for doctors to figure it out so you might not get an answer from one doctor visit. Good luck.
