Skin Issues 1 Yr Postpartum????

I've always had a few issues with my skin being combination, acne prone but in my late 20's and 30 my skin cleared to the point that makeup use was limited. When I got pregnant my skin was seriously the best it had ever been. After having my baby I really didn't notice any significant issues, I expected the hormones to be crazy. However, on my daughters 1st birthday I had a break out that covered most of my face, I thought I was having an allergic reaction. This has been going on for 6 months. I have changed everything about my facial routine, my makeup, had bloodwork done and am really considering a dermatologist. Is it possible for your skin to change types and maybe I'm overdoing it? I'm at a loss. Has this ever happened to anyone else? Ever?

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks so much for all the feed back. The only thing I can think of that I'm using now that I didn't before is the use of toners. I'm going to take it easy on my skin and see a dermatologist.

I could have wrote this myself. My skin has been a mess, esp since I had my daughter a few years ago. This S. was the worst it has ever been. Acne covered my neck, chest, face, upper back. It was horrible. I finally buckled and bought Proactive- just the toner. It took a couple of weeks, but I have had pretty clear skin ever since. I would suggest trying it if you haven't already. Good luck!

I had clear skin even as a teen. In my early 30's my face broke out and it wouldn't clear up. The dermatologist said I had rosacea. Rosacea starts in adulthood. That was 40 years ago. I don't remember what the treatment was. With continued treatment the acne mostly cleared up. But my complexion has remained reddish. I do have breakouts from time to time. They clear up with 10% benzyl peroxide found on otc acne treatments.

Over cleaning or using harsh cleaners can make a problem worse rather then better. I would not wait, see the derm now. But yes, it is not only possible, but common, for your skin to go through changes as you get older.

I have very acne prone skin, and like you, my skin is at its best during pregnancy. My skin is ok during nursing, but as menstration comes back, so does my acne ... With a vengeance. 6 months is a long time for this to be going on, but you know how one breakout sets you up for the next (due to the inflammation, bacteria, etc). See a dermatologist and hopefully with a little medication it will get back in control.

As you age your skin changes as well. I suggest seeing a dermatologist.

Hi.
Some toners can be harsh and drying...if they contain alchohol, mint, grapefruit, lemon...fragrance...witch hazel...

I might also just start washing with a simple soap like cetaphil....and use fragrance free gentle products.

It can happen especially if you started a new birth control around that point. Some are notorious for break outs.

Figure out what you started that you had not done in the past AND go see a dermatologist.
