Hi ladies!
I'm a 28 year PE teacher, and obviously I spend a lot of time outside in the beautiful San Diego weather. I am ethnically dark skinned (Mexican, Filippino, Italian). I use a moisturizer in the AM that is "anti-sun damage" and SPF28, then about 1/2 hour before I start teaching I use SPF 70 helioplex sunblock. I use the SPF 70 again, or SPF 55 again around lunch time. My problem is the obvious damage my skin is getting, and the TERRIBLE sunglasses tan I have on my face! It is soooo embarrassing! What are some good or even GREAT products out there to help fight against skin damage and to maybe help reverse it. I am still young and I don't want to have the terrible leathery skin all of my older PE teacher friends have. Thank you in advance for all of your help. PS I do wear a hat too!
PSS any suggestions for terrible sock tan lines too? LOL

If it's not too hot, wear lightweight long pants and long shirt. Save the shorts and short sleeve shirts for only really hot days.

Both Jafra and Arbonne have great supplies that can help with this. I have two friends that sell both if you need a sales rep. I love their product from both companies!!!

It's very important to be a label reader. There are ingredients that are proven to prevent & reverse the signs of aging but you don't want to include ingredients that can be harmful to your health. Your skin is your largest organ, highly absorbant, the quickest way to your bloodstream.
http://www.reuters.com/article/healthNews/idUSTRE4BE5WR20...

I would suggest finding a local Arbonne rep & ask them to let you test out the anti-aging line. (I'm sure one will email you on your post). Their products get results using pure, safe botanically-based ingredients. They don't test on animals or use animal by-products. Google "rendering plants" to see what many of the big cosmetic companies are using as filler in the products you're buying off the shelf & why they need to use so many preservatives.

Also, I don't believe in using anything higher than 45spf. You just using a higher concentration of chemicals & still need to re-apply, like taking too many vitamins, overkill. Many people love the Before Sun sunblock from Arbonne because it repairs sun damage while protecting. I personally like to use the sunblock from the baby line, spf 30. I can spend a couple hours at the beach (pale Irish skin) & not get a bit of color with that sunblock.

28 years, A.? That's amazing! Kudos to you.

In addition to every precaution you're already taking, be sure to HYDRATE yourself.

Do not drink like a fish ... drink like a WHALE!!

If you like, I can share some info with you about a product called, "Daily Edge", that has been an absolute saving grace to me. I spent 8 years out on the playground at an elementary school as an instructional assistant. I know exactly how you feel! No one wants that "leathery" look.

Hi A.. I do skin analysis and I am certified. If you are interested in seeing for yourself what kind of damage the sun has done to your skin let me know. At that point I can do a true analysis and then from there I can recommend treatment. The cost is reasonable. If it you are interested, contact me back. T.

Hi A. --
I don't know if anyone suggested it, but what kind of hat do you wear? I'd say get a good hat. One with a full brim, not a baseball hat. And long sleeves if you can handle it.
Also, be sure to put sunscreen on your hands!

Hi,
I'm a mom of 4 kiddos that live in So. Cal. too. My kids are ethnically darker skinned too. I use Melaleuca's sunscreen on them because it is very effective and doesn't contain the chemicals in it that damage the skin. I also use their skin care products personally. Again, it has been formulated to give your skin the nutrients and vitamins that keep it young and supple, rather than irritating your skin with chemicals that are not meant to saturate into human skin.
Melaleuca is a referral company (like Mary Kay...), so if you are interested in more information, please email me at ____@____.com with Mela in the re:.
Thanks and I know you will be pleased,

You are SO SMART to ask this question. Don't skimp a penny on getting the best protection you can. I don't want to scare you, but I am a teacher too. One of our recently retired PE teachers was just diagnosed with melanoma. Take care of yourself at all times so it doesn't happen to you. A sunglass tan might be embarrassing, but it's better than the alternative. I wish I knew of some good products, but I don't. I just want to tell you you're doing a smart thing starting now!

Hi A.,

My dermatologist told me to start wearing a hat. The tan lines around the glasses started to fade. Make sure you wear a wide brimmed hat. It will save the skin on your face from long term sun damage and major wrinkles when you are older. Also suggested to wear long sleve shirts even in the summer.

He recommended every day Protection face lotion Eucerin face lotion UVA & UVB SPF 30 PROTECTION (runs about $8.40 per container) to be worn under foundation(I never wore foundation before but I do now) The dermatologist (one of top dermatologist in the country) said this cream was better than any thing you could buy at the department store. He also suggested that it be used on your arms and hands. He mentioned that the rays from the sun are magnified in the car when they come thru the windows. The lotion comes in a small 4 fl.oz pump container white and pink. Now the whole family puts on the lotion every morning including hubby right after they brush their teeth in the morning.

Hi A. :)

I have to hand it to you PE teachers, out there in the sun all day with the kids. It is definitely a challenge to protect your skin. And you must, or you will end up with skin cancers!

I know of a product that is excellent in keeping your skin smooth and soft, better than most prescription lotions. This is great lotion to keep your skin soft and smooth.

As to the eyes and ankles, we have a self tanner that will help to ease the lines on the ankles, and wonderful natural make up to cover the sunglasses line. Be happy to share with you. Email me at ____@____.com.

Hi A., I am very educated on skincare..I read all the magazines for the newest and best anti-aging treatments. I think you should use a more physically blocking sunscreen, something that contains a high amount of zinc oxide and/or titanium dioxide. Shiseido has a SPF sunscreen for the face that contains a high percent of zinc oxide in it, I also use Clinique city block spf 40. Wear an anti-oxidant under the sunscreen to help it work better, I personally use Prevage which is available from dermatologists...it has been proven to be one of the best anti-oxidants on the market. In the evening you should use Retin-A or Renova to reverse the sun damage you get during the day, nothing has been proven to work better...I also use a peptide moisturizer such as Kinerase which proports to grow collagen as well. I can tell you that I am going to be 43 in a month and I have NO wrinkles and I live in San Diego as well! Good luck!

Artistry, Time Defiance Illuminating Essence. I spent years in the Florida sunshine and I love this stuff!!!

It has a money back guarantee also, for 180 days!! It is AWESOME!!

As for the prevention, sounds like you do a lot. Try the clothing that is a sunblock also.

Go to we-us.mychoices.biz and sign up to buy the Artistry. You can get the sunblock clothing there also at a partner store. Look for the outdoor clothing stores. I will be happy to show you the Artistry products in person if you like. 888-600-4380 is my business line.

Also, vitamin E is important for our skin and if you don't take that now you should. A great vitamin that can repair your DNA at the cellular level is also advisable. Try Nutrlite XX. I would love to meet you and show you what 13 years of Artistry skin care has done for me!!

Good luck and Great Skin!!

Hi A., I worked with horses for years, and would not get out of the car with out a hat on. If you can wear a wide brimmer (straw or canvas) great, if not, at least wear a baseball cap. Your sun screen is great, but you have to block the sun. Good luck.

A. -- First of all, thank you for commiting to a life of service in the classroom!! I have a homebased business with Arbonne International. We have an anti-aging sunscreen line called "Before Sun". It is botanically based formulas with protection levels of SPF15 and SPF30. One of the products is called "made in the shade" which is a self tanner (does not turn your skin orange) that you can use for the sunglasses owl eyes and your sock line. You can check out the products on www.arbonne.com. There is one other skin care product that comes from our baby care line, SPF30 sunscreen that I use on my face when I am going to be riding in our convertible or exposed to the sun all day. I am happy to give you more information or send you more information if you would like. I can be reached at ###-###-####. E. B

for the sock lines, us a self tanner on the ankles and feet-it will help blend.

I'd use the anti sundamage stuff at night, and only sunscreen during the day. apply every 2 hrs. as high an spf as you can find. I love the neutrogenia spray for reapplications during the day.

Hi A.,

I can understand your dilemma, San Diego has beautiful weather which I absolutely love. But as a PE teacher being outdoors all day can effect your skin. I suggest the Mineral Genesis Collection from Sensaria Natural Bodycare. It is top of the line in helping to restore natural beauty and fighting premature signs of aging. This facial system includes a facial wash to release toxins from congested skin, a conditioning mist that helps reduce inflammation, the pure gold instant effects creme, and the moisture creme that helps shield the skin from the suns harmful rays. Once you try it you will see the difference instantly. We also have a daily sun protection SPF 28 for everyday use it's rich in green tea which soothes and protects against free radical damage. Email me for more info or to see the products yourself go to www.sensaria.com/pamper.me. There are nothing but great reviews from people who use the Mineral Genesis. Best wishes to you!!!

Dear A.:

I was a letter carrier many years ago and my husband and bro-in-law still are. We're not crazy about most sunscreens (those chemicals can't be good for you) so we use the natural ones such as Badger. Try Whole Foods, online sources, etc.

Also, Land's End has an extensive line of SPF 50 clothing that can help you. When we're in Honduras (beastly hot AND humid!) on our mission trips, we COVER OUR SKIN and use Land's End clothing exclusively. It's not even that hot in San Diego that you have to wear shorts all the time. (My husband delivered mail there for 15 years.) For you, I'd suggest long, loose pants and a tank with a sporty, thin jacket over it for most of the time. This would keep your legs covered and your skintone more even.

I also agree with the other suggestion: Wear a wide-brimmed hat!

Best wishes,

M.

Hi A.,
I have two suggestions (well, one question). First, I rep one of the top five skincare lines in the world and would be happy to get you some samples and info. We have an amazing 100% satisfaction, $-back guarantee (which means, if you try our product, use the entire product, and don't notice any difference, you get a FULL refund!!!). Also, do you take a top quality set of vitamins? You can help fight the harmful affects of sun damage from the inside out. I also rep the top nutritional supplement line in the world (with the same guarantee). I would love to help if I can! Shoot me a reply and I can get you some information. =0) Good luck!

A.,
I would like to recommend the Sense skin-care line. which is all about providing optimal cellular nutrition to the skin. The products have a patented self-preserving technology that keeps them fresh and effective without any chemical preservatives (not even parabens.) They have powerful anti-oxidant vitamins to protect and restore skin cells, and they have proven results from clinical trials that show, among others, 100% improvement in measured moisture in the skin within 8 weeks. My neighbor, who is a PE instructor at our local high school, already had leathery skin and saw visible reversal with Sense in a few weeks. I use the daytime moisturizer (which contains UVA & UVB protection) without any additional sunscreen products when I go horseback riding. If you want to know more (and yes, I have samples too), please contact me at ____@____.com
Of course, you need a good hat for prevention, but an effective skincare line can reverse sun damage that has already occurred. You are wise to be taking all the steps you can now.
