It's probably her ears. They may be infected. My youngest sleeps through the night except when his ears are infected. He never pulls on them to give us some sort of clue. He usually wakes up several times a night crying. Good luck!
Our six month old daughter has been sleeping through the night for months now, however, this week she has been waking up crying 3 or 4 times a night. Does anyone know why she is doing this? Could she be teething? Or dreaming? How do we stop this?

There's no stopping it. Sorry to tell you... :( It's perfectly normal for babies who have been sleeping through the night to start waking up again. It's probably teething. You can try giving her Motrin before bedtime to see if that helps. She'll probably return to her old sleeping habits as soon as the tooth comes through. I find my daughter goes in spurts while teething, it could take 2 months or so for a tooth to come through. We'll have a few good weeks of sleep, then she'll wake up screaming for a week. Just do your best to comfort her back to sleep. I don't even pick up my daughter... I just gently rub her back or tummy until she calms down and then she goes back to sleep on her own.
Good luck, I hope she sleeps better soon!
Not only teething but at 6 months they usually go through a growth spurt so she could just be growing and more aware of her surroundings too. It will pass this question comes up alot on this website you should look up some other people who asked this question and read what advice they got.
This very easily could be gas. With the introduction of new foods in a babies diet can create gas in there tummies. Even if she's on formula or even nursing it could still be gas. They sell baby gas drops @ Wal-Mart and giving her some before bed may help her sleep thru the nite. My son nursed but he started having problems with gas with certain foods I ate and then again when he started on baby foods. He'd cry and scrunch his little legs & arms up and it took us a few nites to realize what was wrong, then bought the drops and gave them to him every nite before bed. Sometimes he'd still wake crying and if we thought it was gas we'd give him some more.
It could be any of those things you mentioned or nothing at all, just a phase...Consider yourself lucky that you've had the restful nights you've had...Some of us have had kids that NEVER slept through the night their first two years of life...
She may just need reassurance that you are still there.
My son is now 9 months old and we've just gone though the same thing with him. He's been sleeping through the night (even when sick) since he was 3 months old then all of a sudden he started getting up every night. At first he was so hungry you could hear his tummy rumbling so my husband would fix a bottle and he'd go right back to sleep. Then it turned into a habit. 1:30 every morning he was up and not necessarily hungry, just wanted mom or dad. The only thing we could do was let him cry it out. He knew how to soothe himself back to sleep, but why do it when mom or dad could? Last night I finally didn't have to get up with him. He woke up, fussed a bit but got himself back to sleep. You should be able to tell the difference between the hungry, hurting and what I call my spoiled baby cry. Be in tune to that and do what your heart tells you to do. Good luck!
My daughter is almost 13 months old. She has been sleeping through the night forever. However, she will still go through spurts where she gets up like that for a few nights then goes back to normal. I have learned through her cries if it is teething (a more painful cry) or a nightmare (a more whiny, wimpery like her feelings got hurt). If you think it might be teeth, try some tylenol before bed.
Has she had any other symptoms? I have an 8 month old who when he has an ear infection, the only symptoms he has is waking multiple times at night. He does not show fever or anything else, but was waking throughout the night and I took him in to the dr. friday and he has a double ear infection. You might want to check into it.
Another issue is the pacifier, if she takes one - if she wakes and doesn't have it - she will search for it.
Just some thoughts, I hope they help!
Could be teathing, dreaming, an ear infection, or if you have not already started her on solid foods, she is probably ready for them. Does she go back to sleep on her own? Definantly talk to her doc about it - it never hurts to ask questions. If she is teething she could have fluid on her ears which would cause pressure on her eardrums when she is laying down. There is a teething gel made by Hyland's that works well. It is homeopathic so there is no medication like the Oragel products. They also make Teething Tablets for the daytime, dissolve instantly in baby's mouth. You can buy them at Wal-Mart or Walgreens Drug Stores. Good luck to you and your baby! E.
Good Morning S., It can be a toss up as to why little one wake up during the night after sleeping through the night before. She could be teething for sure. She may be going though a growth spurt & is restless. Could be any number of things, none serious just disrupting to mom & dad's sleep.
Check to see if she's wet ( which duh you probably do )
Change her position and pat her, talk soothingly to her, turn on some soft music if you can. ( we play Baby Einstein CD's for gr son's to sleep)
Hopefully she will go back to her "normal" sleep patterns very soon.
Sorry I couldn't be more helpful
God Bless

It definitely could be teething, most times it's an ear ache, though. Call your pediatrician, and try a little Tylenol in the meantime.
All babies are different she may be doing all the above as you mentioned.Just because she has slept well for months doesn't mean she will continue. There is no way to keep her from getting up and not crying all you can do is make sure she isn't hungry wet too hot or cold has gas teething uncomforable since she is unable to talk I take that back she is talking it's crying and letting you know that something is wrong pick her up and hold her listen for her cues as you would during the day.If all else fails then put her back into the crib and let her cry it out for a few minutes. If you allow her to use a pacifier she may have dropped it out of her mouth. You can take her temp. make sure she doesn't have a fever if she doesn't call the dr to make sure the accurate dosage, she may want to see her and then if it is an infection in ears or teething there is several ways for you to help her.And for stopping it she is a baby I don't think you can put a stop to it I have 2 kids myself 17 months and going on 5 yrs they still have their nites when they wake up crying my oldest is dreaming and bugs.Welcome to parenthood!!!
She might also be going through a growth spurt where she is just hungry. Make sure you explore that option.
My daughter slept pretty well early, then at 6 mos she hit a growth spurt and started waking again. When baby is growing extra fast, she burns through the milk faster and is hungry again sooner. In that case, best thing to do is feed her.
There's a book called the No Cry Sleep Solution by Elizabeth Pantley. I've heard great things about it. Kinder than the cry it out method, in my opinion.
It could be any number of things. My 2 1/2 year old still wakes up now and then and won't go back to sleep so sorry to tell ya but it's not going to stop any time soon. You may want to get her ears checked tho. My daughter has had many ear infections the last few months and the only clue she ever gave was waking up crying at night. With all the pollen floating around this time of year I wouldn't be surprised to hear that's what the problem is. Good luck!
Probably teething!! Rub her gums on the bottom where her two front bottom teeth will come in. If she looks relaxed when you do this, then she is teething. Just to be safe, I would take her to the doctor to make sure it's not an ear infection. Ear infections and teething can produce the same symptoms.
