check out the movie, The Business of Being Born! It's got some great images of water birth. For my third baby, I used a tub at a nearby birth center. it definitely cuts back on pain and improves relaxation.

I'm not much of a swimmer - but I went swimming when I was 5 months pregnant with my second. My back pain had been excruciating up to that point b/c of her position.

It helped immensely. Bathtubs don't cut it b/c they're not deep enough.

I haven't heard of the other options you mentioned. I am planning a homebirth though - so I wish you the best on your quest.

I have heard that hot baths (long soaks) can injure a fetus, because of the long time needed to return the uterus to normal body temperature. Please check this with your doctor -- I only read it as research and don't know if it was subsequently verified or disproved.

Why is this under sleep? Are you having trouble sleeping?

I loved to be in my pool while I was pregnant with my daughter. We have an above ground pool and it felt great, escpecially because I retained so much water. The hard part was getting out of the pool. You feel weightless in the pool, but once you get out and gravity sets back in your back to being uncomfortable the minute your tummy is out of the water. However while I was in the pool I felt great.

When I went to a fertility expert a year ago, she said that I should also try alternative medicines, including acupuncture. I think anything that reduces stress is good.

While every pregnancy is different overall sleep can be tough in the last months. I've never heard of the samadhi tank I did use a local lake and the ocean to float for my summer birth child :) What helped me the most was frequent bodywork through my pregnancies to keep me and baby as comfortable as possible and understanding that often the sleep issue is excitement and nerves as well. A holistic birth is a wonderful thing but bear in mind that however the birth happens it is a beautiful and wonderful thing as long as mom and baby are safe. I say this because I have friends who needed traditional medical intervention during the birthing process and needed a lot of coaching to accept that the process wasn't as "holistic" as they wished. The truth is- truly "holistic" is giving birth to a beautiful and healthy child with healthy mom as well. So go for the gold and keep your eye on the prize :)
good luck!
