Hi All. I have developed a slight yeast infection. I am still bfeeding 3 times a day my 21 month old toddler.

Do any of you know of any natural remedies, or changes in my eating habits etc that can help? Natural supplements?

Thanks in advance.

Jilly

Try some plain yogurt. Take a little, warm it slightly and you can apply it directly. Or you can add half a cup of it to your bath water.

A good probiotic that you get from the health food store in the refrigerated case can help. I'm not sure about the milk strains or not, but you could ask someone there to show you examples of both. Udo's makes a really potent one, called Super 8 or something like that.
Also, back in the day, I used to get yeast infections frequently. One doctor told me that they can resolve themselves. If yours is mild, you could try changing your diet for now (eliminating the sugars that help yeast grow), wear clothes that keep you as dry as possible, take a probiotic and see how it goes. I did read from Dr. Oz that he prefers probiotics that are frozen, as in frozen yogurt, as opposed to plain yogurt because they maintain their potency. It's possible that the health food store may have something natural that you can use vaginally also. I just don't know off the top of my head.
Hope you feel better soon!

This is going to sound crazy but I swear it works for me. A friends doctor told her to do this when she was pg and had a yeast infection. Mix half cultured buttermilk and half water (you'll want to heat it up some) and douche with it. I realize while typing this how very crazy it sounds but at $2 a half gallon, what do you have to lose? Just don't tell your husband you're doing it.... =)

Hi J.,

Yogurt is great, but without sugar AND with active cultures. You need to be on probiotics/prebiotics anyway for the baby and that will keep the yeast at bay. If you are having any signs of yeast then it is not a slight infection. Yeast breeds from the inside out and you are eaten up with it if there are any symptoms. Remove ALL sugar from your diet too. That means white breads, white potatoes, any simple carb. Complex carbs are fine like sweet potato or red potato but white potatoes are like giving yourself an extra dose of yeast. Tanalbit from www.intensivenutrition.com will get rid of it in about 3 months but I'm not sure you should use it while you're breastfeeding. You can research that on the website. It will heal yeast much faster than anything else safely. Water and fiber will help too.

God bless AND Congratulations!

M.

Good for your extended nursing, keep going!
NO sugar, no breads, no fruits if you can deal. I do NOT suggest yogurt like the others, yogurt is dairy, dairy helps to multiply bad in your body. Dairy is a source of growth, just as you are producing milk to nourish YOUR offspring, a cow lactates to nourish HER offspring, not you or yours.
Flush out with drinking warm water and lots of clean foods. You can also eat more acidic type of foods. You can douche with apple cider vinegar too.

Probiotics can work too but make sure they are not from a dairy strain.

just use an OTC cream, if you're worried just don't use the 1 day dose. I had a yeast infection when I was pregnant AND nursing and used OTC and it was fine. Plus it will work faster than natural stuff. If you have recurring ones, then I would consider changing your diet as suggested by others.

stick a garlic clove up your vagina, when peeling it, make sure to not puncture it as the juice may sting you. you can either wrap it in a gauze or floss or just stick it up there. push as far up as you can, like an ob tampon. stick a clean one in you every night and remove next morning. if yeast infection is severe, you can also use one during the day.

You can use Monistat or any of the OTC creams. Since they're creams, they won't affect your breastfeeding. In addition to the cream, you can use probiotics and eat lots and lots of yogurt

Eat yogurt (it must have live cultures) "no more than one a day", drink cranberry juice. Douche with vinegar and water mix. Also, sleep at night without underwear on. I used to get yeast infection a lot until I started sleeping without underwear. The doctors words were "Let her breath" she's alive too...Since I have been sleeping without underwear I haven't had any problems.

You need to attack it from the inside...Yogurt is great. I also love the Azo tablets. Also, cut out excess breads, refined sugars, soda/sugary drinks and starches...they only feed yeast. Drink lots and lots of water. Feel better soon!

an acidophilus supplement will help get those good bacteria back in action. Or just eat a lot of probiotic yogurt (same stuff).
