I'm trying to find a mini high chair...not a booster seat and not one that clamps to the table. I need a small sturdy stand alone high chair. Any suggestions?

What can I do next?

I know you said not a booster, but they make a space saving high chair seat that actually sits on a chair, but can recline and has straps just like a full size high chair.

We have a high chair that straps to a chair. It's called a "Space saver" chair and works wonderfully. I highly recommend it. It can be found at Target.

Try Ikea. They have some great, inexpensive ones.

I have a very little guy. He is 19 months and only weighs about 22lbs. we had a regular high chair and it just dwarfed him. I found one at Wal-mart for 20$. It sits on our kitchen chairs and reclines it also has a tray. it is perfect for us. you can also take it with you. we take it to restaurants because he is too little for the booster chairs. It straps right to there chairs or fits right in a booth.

I love my Svan High Chair. It's small and made of wood so it blends in with our furniture. You can find it at svanstore.com. The only problem is that it's kind of pricey.

We love our Stokke high chair. It is wood, sleek and fits nicely at the table. We live in a small condo and are always trying to conserve space. The plastic ones are too big and cumbersome. It is spendy but it lasts for a long time - it converts into a desk chair as well. They come in a lot of different colors and can hold up to 300 lbs! Check out their website:

There is another wooden high chair that is comparable but cheaper. You can find it at One Step Ahead (.com?) I have had friends complain about the straps on it though so check it our thoroughly...

Ikea may have a small wooden chair as well.

good luck!

Hello R. -

Just a tidbit to start this coversation: Did you know that over 18,000 children end up in doctor's offices and ERs every year in the U.S. from high chair accidents? Eighteen THOUSAND! Some of them are parents forgetting to strap the wee one in, but a huge chunk of them are highchairs collapsing with the wee one in or on it.

Having shared that, Babee Tenda makes the only truly safe high chair that I have ever seen and it is small, sturdy, and stand alone, as you requested. It is by far the safest high chair out there, but they aren't cheap. I would suggest looking on E-bay if you don't want to pay the $300-400 that they cost new. On E-bay you can usually get one for $100-180. If you search for "babee tenda" you should be able to find them, but it may also be helpful to know that they call their chair a "feeding table". They make great cribs, too.

Best wishes-
D.

R.,

I used a walker because it was easy to take with me to anywhere. I bought a really inexpensive one that was light weight and didn't have all the perks so they didn't get in the way and I didn't have to clean them too. Also, the one we had you could take the wheels off, but holding your foot down on the walker while you feed baby works too.

Good luck and Congrats!

I highly recommend the Stokke Tripp Trapp. It's basically a chair with an infant rail that sits right at the table. It's a simple design, will hold up to 300 lbs (is not limited to high chair use) and is great for having your son be a part of family dinners as you introduce the idea of solid meals.

It's expensive, but can be pretty easily found in resale shops. Because it's not a "high chair", the cost isn't quite as wasteful as something that you'll only use for a couple of years. You can use it as an extra chair when company comes, a desk chair, etc.

If you get that chair, I would also recommend this:

Makes cleaning the table much easier, and you can take it to restaurants to keep baby off of dirty tables.

I don't know if this is what you're looking for but I found a compact high chair at Walmart. It works as a booster seat but it also has the tray for a high chair. It has legs that are probably about a foot tall so you can set it on the floor or strap it to a chair. It has adjustable straps to go around the chair and straps to hold in the child. The chair was inexpensive and made of durable plastic.

IKEA makes a great, very simple, small stand alone high chair... the best part is that it doesn't have all the padding and stuff for food to get stuck to- super easy clean up.

I know you said no to the booster seat... however it is a high chair first then turns into a booster seat. We live in a small apartment and we don't have room for a high chair and this works soooo great... and it is great to take with you when you go out to eat.. I hate having my little one out in the middle of the room for people to bump into and this fits right in the booth next to me.. I feel as he is safer and I can tend to him easier! The biggest plus besides being able to take it when I go to friends houses as well is it is sooooo cheap!!!

Here is a link!! Read the comment on how people love it!!! Let me know if it is some thing you where or where not looking for!

Hi! I'm not sure if they still have them, but with my son we found a small, solid wood hairchair from Ikea that worked really well for the tiny space we had in our kitchen (at the time when we lived in Seattle with our little one). Wish I still had it & I would pass it along to you . . . but I sold it before we moved back home to Kennewick. It's worth checking to see if they still offer anything like that. Good luck.
A little about me:
I'm a married mom of a two year old son and expecting twin girls February 26th.

Ikea offers a really small free-standing highchair. I saw it there last week for about $20. It's probably on their website if you want to check it out.

I have the euro high chair from one step ahead with the adaptable tray...I love it. It is great cause it grows with your child and can just slide right up to the table when they get older. I also just love the way it looks, so it does not stick out like a sore thumb in your kitchen.

I have this one http://www.target.com/Fisher-Price-Space-Saver-Highchair-...
and I love it. Of course you need a chair for it to attach to. As for a small stand alone - I haven't seen one that I've really liked. Hope that helps some. Good luck searching!

I used the Fisher Price Space Saver High Chair and loved it. It sits on a chair, but is an actual high chair so is higher in back to support their head and even reclines, it is not a booster (in fact because of the arms won't work well as one). In fact, if you live near Issaquah and want mine, just message me and you can have it (it is sitting in the garage right now). We graduated to a booster with a tray when she was in finger foods (so it is still in good shape if you want the other).
