Hi moms,

Someone I know (Person A) and I have a very close friend (Person B) in common. Person A and B have known each other many, many years and every year during the holidays, the moms and kids get together and decorate gingerbread houses. Tradition. My kids and I were invited to join them this year. It was very thoughtful of them to do that. We are going over to person A's house and even though we are not staying for a meal or anything like that (very informal), it being the holidays, I don't want to go empty handed. Any ideas what I can take - something small is fine. Just need to take something.

Thank you for your ideas!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the wonderful ideas. I do already have a wine bottle and plenty of candy to decorate the gingerbread houses. I might throw in some hot chocolate mix for her kids. Thank you again for some very cool ideas.

how about if you call Person A, and ask them if you could bring some candies to decorate the gingerbread house with!! That can get quite
expensive if you are decorating them in that way. Or maybe you could
bring a kid friendly Christmas CD to listen to while you are making them, and leave it there when you leave.

Perhaps a nice baking mix or fancy oil set from Williams-Sonoma? Should be able to get something good for under $15.

I would call and ask what you can bring to contribute to the get together. Then, I would bring a small gift such as:
- Christmas tree ornament
- spice set if you have a Spice House type of spot near you
- holiday candle
- cute holiday plate (Crate & Barrel has nice, inexpensive ones) with some kind of goodie on it, handmade or not
- cute holiday plate wrapped in holiday hand towel
- Christmas music CD (Starbucks has nice ones)
Whatever you do will be such nice gesture, it almost doesn't matter what it is. You could also ask Person B what A might like. Have fun!

I always bring hostesses a nice plant or flowers. At this time of year you could get a poincetta. Wine is also good if you know she drinks.

I'm thinking a bottle of wine (if they don't drink then sparklng cider or grape juice - which the kids would love) or a small box of Fannie May candies - EVERYONE loves Fannie May!

Are you doing some holiday baking? How about a tray of goodies?
I agree with the suggestion of getting some of the candy etc to decorate the ginger bread houses with...that would be practical.
Does the family drink wine?? A nice bottle of wine is not expensive and always something that can be used at a later date.
Or how about taking something that would be good for snacking during the time you are there...enough for everyone to share??
