Hi M.,
My 6.5 year old has played 3 seasons with the local park district and has now moved up to the traveling soccer team for Bolingbrook, which is a member of the Northern IL Soccer Assoc. I definitely recommend your local park district over the Y or Just For Kicks because 1) it doesn't cost as much and 2) you will get to know people/kids in your own community and your child will have the opportunity to make friends with kids for future seasons and beyond. The park district generally has soccer teams for fall and spring (fall ball has already started though). I know Wheatland and Just for Kicks has indoor soccer in winter (Nov-Feb).

in Plainfield the Plainfield Soccer Association is GREAT. The YMCA is ok, it wasn't that great 3 yrs ago when we tried it, but they probably have more kids enrolled now. But at that age we were very happy with psa. When they got older we weren't.

Your local park district is the best place to start. They teach the basics and make sure the kids have fun. It is usually Moms and Dads that volunteer to coach the kids. The kids have fun and it's stress free. My son played for the park district for years and loves the game so much that he went on to play for a travelling soccer team. It's a great team sport and keeps the kids moving. Have fun!!

The PSA is great-all my kids have been through there. Just for kicks is good for the winter...but they are almost double the cost. Good Luck! Maria

My daughter is enrolled in the Wheatland Athletic Association. They have soccer teams in the Spring and Fall. The goal is for everyone to play and have a good time. They match your child with teams near their school. I like it, and it is far less expensive than Just for Kicks.

We have been enrolled at Lil Kickers and have found the program to be great. It is indoor so good for all weather.
