Hi ladies, was wondering if you had some soft food ideas. My 20 month old has to have surgery in 2 weeks for tubes in ears, adnoids and toncils out. Doctor said he has to be on soft diet for 2 weeks. Soooooooo, i need ideas, thats a long time for soft food. One thought was just go buy baby food? Not sure how he would like though. So would love any ideas. Also we are also seeing a GI doctor for tummy issues sperate from this, and he is low in weight, so anything extra calorie for him is needed to gain some weight. Thanks for ideas

baby food.
Pediasure (in the baby/kids aisle at grocery stores. Its a "meal" drink for kids with vitamins and protein and fiber in it). Various flavors. It is also used for kids, that need to gain weight and or are not getting enough nutrients.

My 4 year old just had this last month, she ate lots of jello (no reds for the first few days), she ate over cooked noodles cooled down(nothing hot for a few days also), lots of ice cream, pudding, ice pops, Every day my mom came and brought her Mcdonalds soft serve or milk shake... she lives on crappy food for about a week and half, but she is all better now, thank God!! Best of luck!!

so is this soft foods as in, easy to chew? or soft as in easy to digest? (to avoid straining when toileting?
so, soft foods easy to chew. any kind of pasta with sauce, apple sauce, oranges, nectarines, peaches, grilled cheese sands, quesidillas, bananas, fruit shakes for snacks, ice cream (he'll be thrilled), yogurt, hot dogs cuts into small pieces, pancakes, eggs, oatmeal, soups. hope it helps
you'll still want to find out if the doc means soft as in easy to chew or soft as in easy to digest. good luck

baby food is a good idea. my son liked the occasional baby food long after he didn't need to eat it anymore. it'll have more nutrients than just giving him yogurt, ice cream, etc. Mashed up avocados would be great too. overcooked rice?

I had to do baby food after extensive gum surgeries, and found that baby food wasn't really all that bad, although a bit of salt went a long way to help! Something he may enjoy, that we did for my son when he was just a bit younger was 10 oz. whole milk (we actually used goat's milk) with one serving of Carnation Instant Breakfast. It's a common formula replacement as it's got 10 calories more per ounce with the same nutrients. We thickened it with Simply Thick (xantham gum) and it made a really good shake. He gained a ton of weight on it. If they want to do steroids to make him hungry, ask for Perlactin instead. It's an old allergy med that one of the side effects is hunger. It works great! My son started it in Feb. and has gone from a size 2T to a 4/5! Mostly height. Went up 45 percentile points in height from his last annual, and 22 percentile points in weight! We're still below average on weight, but officially well on the charts! A first since he was 4 months old. He turns 5 next week. He's got severe reflux, but isn't a candidate for surgery with it, so we are just managing the pain for now. Good luck! Hope he feels better soon!
