My husband had his wisdom teeth removed last Wednesday. I need some mushy foods I can feed him for the next two weeks. Does anyone have any ideas for meals/recipes?

TIA!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Apparently, there is a difference in the healing process when you get in your 30's. The dentist warned it could be up to 2.5 weeks for him to be able to eat regular food. His teeth were so severely impacted and he still has swelling on one side. So anything that requires chewing at all, he is avoiding.

Thank you all for your suggestions! He is so tired of sweet things! I have been making him soups, scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes, and mashed cauliflower. I just worry about his nutrition.

- Soups, of course
- Quiche
- Omelets
- Meatloaf/ Salisbury Steak
- Fish of any kind (halibut, cod, salmon, etc.)
- Curries
- Risottos
- Chicken Marsala (use 8-10 thighs instead of 4 breasts, and double the liquid so it's soupier) http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/tyler-florence/chicken...

Wisdom tooth extraction heals up pretty fast (I had 8 adult teeth out at 16 yrs old and I was eating pizza 3 days later).
Soup, yogurt (and yogurt drinks), pudding, jello, mash potatoes, oatmeal (grits, cream of wheat, etc), scrambled eggs, soft boiled eggs, etc.
Additional: Guacamole or mashed avocado (avocados are extremely nutritious). You don't have to eat it on a cracker if chewing is a problem - just eat it with a spoon.

Matzo Ball soup is an option. When I make it, I add a splash of club soda to the matzo and egg mixture so the matzo balls turn out softer. I also boil the matzo balls in separate water (than the chicken broth) because when I boil them together, the broth tastes too salty to me. You can also add some cooked rice, shredded carrot and canned chicken to the broth (mush the chicken up with a fork beforehand so there aren't any big chucks); skip adding celery since that would require too much chewing.

oh that stinks, i had mine out in my 30s and it sucked. i ate mac and cheese, mashed potatoes, milkshes, oatmeal, rice, and things like that. i also drake the ensure drinks i think they are called. my dentist told me to drink those and it really helped. i also had a dry socket - so be on the look out for those too. it did seem to take longer for them to heal.

Jodi,

I am a Shaklee Independent Distributor and so when my son had his wisdom teeth out he lived on our Meal shakes. they sated him and he healed quickly. They are extremely nutritional. Perhaps you have a friend that uses these products and has some on hand. contact me if I can help.

Gazpacho is another nice item to make for your husband. I have a recipe that includes tomatoes, garlic, onion and some spicy items if you would like it let me know.

It is painful to have wisdom teeth out at that age, but you might want to contact the oral surgeon and make sure the swelling is in line. What about macaroni and cheese? You could add small pieces of diced ham that would not require much chewing. Now that it has been a few days, you might want to introduce some foods back slowly that he can eat.

I had mine removed two years ago at 28 & remember that after a week, I thought I could eat regular food again. It ended up being a painful experience. No dry sockets, but I guess my jaw was sore from the surgery & I didn't help it by trying to eat real food. I survived off of jello, applesauce, pudding, Soup at Hand (campbells I think), & my favorite was the chef boyardee meals. The small microwaveable meals come in many different varietys of pasta meals. The pasta is small enough to swallow without chewing. Good luck!

When you make a soup, to give it a creamy texture, you can blend silkin tofu into it to give your husband some protein.

Quiche is a great idea.

What about green smoothies with added protein powder. 1 cup water, juice or milk, yogurt or silken tofu, frozen fruit, wheat germ, fiber powder and 2 handfuls of kale or spinach. Delicious and nutricious!
He is not supposed to use a straw, so he will drink it. He can have 3-4 a day and may lose weight also, which may be a godd thing if he needs to. lol
