Solids and Poop (TMI.. SORRY!)

Hey mommas. About three weeks ago, I started giving my LO rice/ceral. She was totally normal, having regular poops. I only noticed how stinky they were! And they were becoming darker (my LO is breastfed). Recently I started mixing in different fruits and veggies with the rice. I am taking it slow, testing the same fruit/veggie for four days. As far as I know, she's not allergic to any of them! But for the past three days, she hasn't had a large bowel movement. But she has been pooping tiny bits (less than a dime to a dime size), and today she pooped a little larger than a quarter. I have been worried, so I inspected!! It isn't "hard" but it is rather thick.. Maybe a little thicker than peanut butter? Is this normal? I'm starting to worry... I'm not sure if I should take her to the pedi tomorrow or not. Last time I thought she was constipated, they told me it isn't considered constipation unless it's been atleast SEVEN days!!!!
Thanks in advance for any responses!

What can I do next?

She is probably just adjusting to the new foods in her diet. Not sure how old she is but make sure she is getting plenty of breastmilk that is what she needs most of now anyway. It should help with the slight constipation. When you add solids the poop does start to really stink. If she is over 6 months you can offer her a little bit of water in a sippy cup. I would slow down on the solids for a few days and nurse more to help regulate her system.

I know rice is recommended as a first food but rice, in and of inself, is constipating. If I was giving cereal I would go for something that has better fiber in it. Make sure your little one is getting enough water (especially since she is not exclusively breast fed anymore) Prune juice is perfectly safe for a little one. (A four ounce bottle once a day is good) Doctors will tell you to give a teaspoon of corn syrup but it has the same dangers as honey does the first couple of years of life.

Bowel movements are terribly important to your little one's (and anyone for that matter) health. Normal movements are ONE after EACH meal....Anything less can cause issues.

My two cents!

My DD started having weird poops too when she was transitioning to solids... She was VERY regular... like having 2 poops at the same time every day (after her nap and before bed. lol). Then she did get constipated off of the rice cereal, so once we fixed that she started going once a day, definitely thicker and smellier! lol. Now (9 months), she usually has one or two good poops a week, with small ones (about the size of my thumb) every day. Sometimes she will go a day or two with nothing but wet ones... I keep an eye on the texture, and don't really get worried unless she has a hard ball. (I poke it with a q-tip if I can't tell just by looking. lol) The one thing I have done to keep her regular (which has been working so far, she only got really constipated on the rice cereal) is to make sure to feed her some kind of 'poop food' every day.. usually breakfast since certain fruits are more likely to get things moving, and my DD gets fruit and oatmeal at breakfast... pears and prunes are her favorite. (the sad thing is, I bought the prunes doubting she would even touch them, and they are her favorite thing, right after bananas. lol)

my daughter only pooped like every 4 days. they said i could give her 1/2 a gel child suppository but they didn't think it was anything to worry about (unless she's in pain)
