get her on another antibiotic!! my son had the same problem when he was younger. i took him to the ER and they gave me a prescription for a huge pill for him to take three times a day. when i took him to his regular doc 2 days later she gave him Zithromax. it is a faster acting med that you only have to take once a day, and with a kid that has a sore throat, once a day worked better than three times a day.
hope she feels better soon

Hi R.! The last time one of my kids had a tonsilitis I put oriagel teething medicine as far back as I could reach without gaging her. It seemed to help. I did not get advice from the doctor on this but like I said it helped(she had been teething the week before). I wasn't calling the doctor at 2am. She then slept for several hours. Before this she was up about every 45 minutes. Just an idea that I had in the wee hours of the morning. Oh, she was about 13 or 14 monthes old at the time.

You could try some of those Pedialyte popsicles, lots of rocking, andthat's about all you can do. Maybe a warm bath in a lavender bubble bath will help too.

yes it does take a while - hang in there - its hard. Are you still treating the fever? if not you need to and offer her lots of water or liquids or even pop pops...anything liquid...when she starts feeling better she will eat....

Are you piggy-backing the Tylenol and Motrin? If not, call your pharmacist for specific instructins, since it's been a while since I've done this. I believe you give Motrin, wait 2 hours and can dispenst the Tylenol. This way some type of pain reliever/fever reducer med. remains in her system.

The next best thing is to continue offering cold things: popsicles, VERY cold water, pedialite, jello etc...Keep some water or something she likes, cold, and in her sippy cup/bottle for her to grab whenever, and hold it for her if needed. Just don't offer milk based products if she's got the fever. The coolness will soothe her throat and help keep her hydrated. Don't worry so much about her lack of eating at this point, once she's feeling better, she'll start eating again.

If after the 48/72 hours have passed since she began the antibiotic, she doesn't seem any better, take her in for a re-check, perhaps the antibiotic isn't working on her, and a different one needs prescribed. Also, if you think she needs seen again, don't hesitate to take her back in. Better to be safe!'

It's my guess, she'll start feeling better soon. Good Luck.

I have this problem myself so I am not sure what to do for a little child. I drink warm liquids when this happens, a lot of broths. I am not sure if a child that young can drink chicken broth but it has worked for me. Sorry I am not of much help. I hope your little one feels better soon.

R.,

I would follow up with your pediatrian today! It is extreamly rare for 1 year olds to get strep or tonselitis (which doesn't mean she doesn't have it). She may need a different antibodic. I had my tonsells removed at 22 after having strep and tonsellits for almost 1 1 /2 on an off. It can be extreamly painful. I would continue giving her the motrin and antibodic and try popsicles (pedialite makes some) and stay away from milk and dairy products. It is most likely extreamly painful for her to swallow.

I dont want to alarm you or make you more nervous than you are. Be very careful of what the doctors tell you. I took my daughter into the hospitol every day for three weeks straight from temp, crying, lack of eating etc. She was around your sons age. One of the nurses told me to stop calling and comming in because she had a virus and there is nothing they can do about it. It ended up being she had a very serious condition called Kawasaki diseasse and had to be sent to the hospitol for a week. It was the worst experience of my life. I will never forgive the doctor or nurses for over looking the problems, she had all the signs they chose to ignore them. I always check symptoms on WEBMD.COM just to be safe.

I had tonsillitis when I was that little, and because of not getting them removed I constantly had a really high feaver, 108. (ended up damaging part of my brain because of it) After a couple of years of me going back and forth with these feavers they took them out. This is nothing to fool around with. I would honastly get another doctors oppinion. It doesn't hurt. I really hope that they do something to make her feel better. Crush up some popsicles and try letting her eat those. Don't give her any dairy because, that will make the area dry. Just make sure she gets liquids in her, so she doesn't dehydrate. I hope you find out something soon. Keep us posted please.

I am happy to hear that your baby is feeling a little better, I agree with most of the advice that you have already received regarding encouraging your baby to take liquids and popsicles etc. If she still seems painful alternating tylenol and motrin is usually effective (give tylenol wait 3hrs, give motrin wait 3hrs give tylenol etc,) check with your doctor but that has worked well with my son in the past.
I was disturbed to see the piece of advice from someone that suggested that you put baby oragel as far back as you can reach with out gagging the baby. Please do not do this it is very dangerous, I am a nurse and doing that could inhibit your baby's gag reflex allowing her choke.
