SOMEONE HELP!! I Think My Husband Ruined My Dryer

Lord knows I love my husband but he's really forgetful and now he's boo booed big time. He washes his work clothes himself every night when he comes home. Well he's been known to accidentally leave a pack of cigarettes w/one or two in it in his pocket and I'd have to clean out my washer and dryer which was very annoying but not permanent. Last night however he left a pen in his pocket and it got all over his clothes and my dryer. Now my dryer has got ink stains all over the inside and I can't figure out how to get them out. I've tried 409 and putting a wet rag in it and drying it in hopes that it would take the ink off but no luck. Anyone else ever had this happen and if so did you find a way to get it out? I've got laundry piling up and I'm scared to dry my clothes till I get it out b/c I don't wanna ruin them.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks for all the advise! I guess maybe I've been a bit over dramatic but after cleaning out other crap he leaves in his pockets this was kinda the last straw for his "forgetfulness" lol. I'm gonna try a few things yall suggested and I'll let ya know if it works! Thanks again I feel much better.

Don't know if it will work or not, but try Mr. Clean Magic Eraser. It took permanent marker off of my 110 year old wood work after setting in for year with absolutely NO discoloration to the wood! It has taken out/off every thing I have tried to clean with it so far.

Your clothes are ruined BUT your dryer is not!

We did the same thing a year ago and used nail polish remover to get it out.
I also know someone who usd paint thinner before.

You just need to make sure that AFTER you clean it, you clean clean it with soap to get all the remover off and let it air out thouroughly.
I think we waited 2 days.

Anyway, there you go!

My husband did this same thing when he was married to his ex-wife. It was actually a paint pen that exploded. You could try Goo-Gone or Greased Lightning to try to remove this. If not test it with some white rags to see if it will come off on your clothes.. but it may be baked on and not come off. The heat tends to do that and it won't rub off. Good Luck....if this doesn't help tell the hubby he has to buy you a new dryer, Ha ha! T.

Desolvit works pretty well too. It's an orange cleaner you can find at walmart normally by the pledge and dusting stuff. Works great on clothes too!! But treat the clothes right before you put them in the was cause it can be colorfast sometimes. If you can't get it all out of your dryer don't worry cause it won't transfer to your clothes. My daughter's father washed and dryed a pen so I've been there.

Good luck

My husband did the same thing the week we got our new EXPENSIVE dryer! I used that Magic eraser to get a lot of it out. But I never could get it all out. I too, was afraid to use it again, so I ran it a couple of cycles with old wet towels that I wouldn't care if any pen got on them. After that, it was fine. There is still a little blue in it, but it doesn't transfer to the clothes. Hope this helps....good luck!

It has happened to my washer and dryer numerous times, so I know what to use! Greased Lightning or Goof Off will take the ink out of your dryer. If you don't already have them, you can buy them at Lowe's!

Hello~
This happened to me a couple of years ago; same situation. My sister in law suggested nail polish remover to spot clean the inked areas in the dryer. Worked very well. I used a cotton ball and a little nail polish remover and dabbed the ink off. And it was everywhere!
Good luck.

Rubbing Alcohol or hairspray. Takes ink out of anything. I recently caught my kids with a sharpie doodling on my brand new sofa...and it worked on that too. Just spray the hairspray and wip off with a rag or soak a rag in the rubbing alcohol and get to scrubbing. Good Luck!

You can try rubbing the stains with isopropyl alcohol and a rag. I am not sure if it will work in the dryer, but it has worked really well for me with clothing. I hope you find something that works.

Hi J.,
I'm sure I can help you with that. I shop from a store with environmentally safe products. We have a special cleaner that has taken melted crayon out of dryers and ink off of clothes. It is very effective yet, you won't die from the fumes while you have your head stuck in the dryer removing the ink. : ) And you may very well salvage the clothes.

I am leaving for the evening, I volunteer on Tuesday evenings. Send me a message and I will tell you more about it. Relax, you'll have that cleaned up in a jiffy. : )

Hi J.,

I would say that if you have tried chemical cleaners and it didn't come off, then it probably won't come off on your laundry. Try throwing some old wash in there that won't matter if it stains. Run the dryer for a noral cycle with the highest heat possible and see what happens. My guess is that it won't come off on the clothes and then you will know. My friend's husband washed a Sharpie a week or so ago! I will have to ask her what she did!

Good luck! BTW, I washed my husband's blackberry...no damage to the dryer, but he was pretty mad...now he cleans out his pockets, though! :-)
