Something Fun to Do with Your 2 Year Old During the Winter??

Does anyone know of any place that's rather inexpensive that I can take my daughter to play? I looked into The Little Gym, but this is too expensive for so little time. I take her to Storytime at our church every Thursday and church on Sunday. We just need something inbetween to break up the cabin fever. Thanks in advance for your suggestions!!

What can I do next?

Hello! The Akron Zoo has an indoor jellyfish exhibit with other interesting animals to look at, as well as an area with plenty of room for the little ones to run around. Romp-n-Stomp in Medina is fun-they have a special toddler time for the smaller children to jump around. Hmm..Chick fil A is fun and pretty clean. I would also look into local rec. centers for tiny tot gym sessions. Maybe swimming lessons as well? Have you joined a Mom's Club? I just joined one and there are activities planned throughout the entire month.

Good luck!

My girl (15months) had just started getting mobile back in the fall when the weather was getting cold. We did the free trial at Gymboree, 2x free trials at The Little Gym, and 1 free trial at a local "play date" business. I agreee, Gymboree & The Little Gym are WAY too expensive! The local one I found is about 1/3 the price and very close to my house. I found it on a flyer at a children's consignment "yard sale" event. My problem is that I work full time Mon-Fri, so I am only able to take her to these things on weekends. This month, our local place (Bounce n' Boogie) will finally start Saturday classes! You could google "children's activities in *your city*" or ask around (ask parents you see at the store, stop by a local daycare, ask people at church, etc). In my city, there are also several family restaurants (not as commercial as Chuck E Cheese, but the same idea) and child-oriented museums. Haven't taken the girl to any of these yet (she's still young), but they are on my list! Of course, you could always stop by a McDonald's or Chick fil A with a playground (just bring purell!) if you're looking to just wear her out one afternoon.
Good luck.

My daughters are four, and what we have done most of the winter is go to Micheals and buy crafts (most are only $1) and we paint, glue, use glitter, color decorations for whatever holiday is coming up (we recently bought those foam crafts where you create valentine decorations and stuck smaller hearts on the big hearts, and then used glitter gel to decorate). Its cheap and fun, and keeps us entertained on the weekend when we are stuck inside.

You might want to check the library, or see if there are any "mommy/child" play groups in your area. You could also check daycares to see if they have any suggestions..

I am located in New Jersey but we have a place called Kid Junctin that is open play time for about $8, its a really cute place with little dramtic play rooms, and a large motor area. I am sure if you look into your towns rec. events or the local newspaper they will have somethings. I am a family childcare provider and I have great indoor ideas, our biggest has been our sensory box, which we have been filling with different items...pasta, water, snow, shaving cream, paper(sand paper, tissue paper, paper towl, paper, etc), and they really keeps the children entertained and its very inexpensive! Good luck with your search Spring will be here before you know it...atleast that's what I keep telling myself!

We go to the library, and there's a local animal museum (the animals are stuffed) that is free and has shows w/ live lizards, birds, etc.

We also go to the art museum but just for a few minutes b/c of the short attention span and short ability to be quiet. there are 2 nearby w/ free entry

I bought a whole bunch of craft supplies for my 2 yr old and I found a blog w/ cute ideas called no time for flash cards dot com and I followed her for what kind of brushes to buy and ideas.

I also looked up a play dough recipe and made some.

We have gotten so crazy inside we go to park if it's at least 30 degrees and bring a towel to dry off the swings if we need to.

Also you could call a friend and try to alternate who's house to play w/ once a week for something regular and fun.

Believe it or not my kids loved the airport. They can run around as much as they want and look at airplanes. They also loved going to the children's furniture stores where there are bunkbeds. Pretend to be buying a bed and your kids can climb on anything. They love it. Also - the pet shops. They'll let you go in little rooms and pet the puppies alone if they think you are interested in buying. Just some fun sneaky ideas.

We go to the library to read and play (they have a toy room where kids can be a little louder) and for storytime and to the zoo (we got a family membership to the Cleveland and Akron zoos for about $65). I take my son (almost 2) on small shopping trips like to Lowes and we walk around and look at all the stuff. He thinks it's really interesting!

Maybe you could look up the Streetsboro city website and see if there are any public buildings that are open - we have a small city museum in our area.

Check out the libraries in your area. In our area many of them offer programs (not just storytime) for toddlers.

When my kids were small, I had a friend with kids a few years older. Ocassionally we'd take them to Chuck E Cheese for an afternoon. My girlfriend and I would have a chance to talk while the kids were entertained.

Our kids like to go to McD's w/ the indoor playgrounds. I have also seen sometime other fast food restrants will have the playgrounds, but I'm not sure what is in Streetsboro. We go to the McD's Montrose, Cuyahoga Falls (State Rd) and in the Valley (this one is a smaller playground set which is easier for the littler guys). My kids are 2 1/2, 4 1/2 & 5 - the playgrounds say 3 and older, but no one has ever said anything about the littler kids playing. They just might not be able to do all the activities.
