Help!! For the past week or so now, my son who turns one next weekend has been filling his entire diaper and also pees through his diaper and his pj's at night. In the morning, his pj's are wet, the diaper is the fullest thing I have ever seen. I am using Pampers (size 3) as my experience is that Pampers work the best. Do they make a super heafty duty night time diaper or do I put two diapers on him or what? I can not believe a kid can pee so much!! Please help!!

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thank you to all of you moms who offered such great advice. I took the easy route and got Huggies Overnights. I had sworn off huggies ever since he was an infant and had wet right through them, but the overnights actually work! No more wet mornings at my house!!

Huggies Overnites worked for us. They cost more than regular diapers, but are totally worth it since you use only 1 diaper for the entire night. You can usually find them in size 4 at Target or Dierbergs. I ordered size 3 from drugstore.com and amazon.com.

Yep, move him up to the next size at night. If that doesn't work with the Pampers then move to Huggies. I found that the Pampers worked until about size 3 on my kids but their body form changed and I didn't get as good coverage as I did on Huggies after that.

If neither of those work then I would recommend moving him to Goodnights by Huggies. They are a version of pull ups for bigger kids if he is at the proper weight for them. My kids still wear these at night and they work great.

One final thing...which way is his wee pointing? If you have it laying up against his stomach facing his belly button he's more likely to pee right out the top of the diaper (at least that's what my son did). Try pointing him downwards and see if it gets better.

I agree, try to cut back his liquids an hour before bed, use the next size up diaper (we did that just for nighttime) or even use the overnights (again, just at nighttime). My son is almost three and I feel like we've just recently gotten down how much liquid he can have before bed!

You can either go up a size for night, or try the Huggies Overnights (in the purple package, I can only find them at Walmart) Good luck!!!

Try to cut his liquids off at a certain time of the nite about an hour before bedtime. I have always used the huggies supreme they hold lots of liquid, my son woke soaked but just the diaper never soaked his bed.

Good luck

My son also pees a huge amount at night and it does not matter if he had anything before bed or not. Honestly, the only ones that worked for us a night were the Pampers Cruisers. Sometimes (not all the time), I would change my son right before I went to bed (around 11pm) and that helped us, but it really depends on how well your little one sleeps and your situation. Hope that helps! :)

This is a tough one at this age. Some will say to limit his liquid intake before bed. However, for us - I was nursing my son before bed and during the night at this age. So, there wasn't a way to limit this. If you can put a changing pad under him so that you won't have to always change bedding, at least you won't have to do a ton of washing. I wanted to say that I hope you are doing ok after your separation. My ex-husband and I also separated after being together for 10 years. Our son was 1 1/2 at the time. It is a difficult thing. I wish you all the best!

Huggies makes and overnight diaper that start at size four. Also you might try Luvs although they are actually made by Pampers they seem to be more absorbant.I have used them on all three kids and also know lots of people that have used them and I've never known them to leak.Another plus is they are cheaper than pampers and Huggies.Another thing you can try is going up a size at night.

I recommend going up a size. Huggies Overnights have worked really well for us. We also limit beverages about an hour before bedtime.

Try using Huggies overnight in a size 4. My son wears the size 3 pampers during the day which works great but we had the same problem. The diapers may seem huge but they are full in the morning and his bed and pjs are dry. Makes for a much happier baby in the morining!

They do make "nighttime" diapers that are supposed to be thicker. You might try those out. They are in the same isle as the others you probably buy now.

My daughter has used White Cloud diapers at Walmart for my Grandson (who is now 4 and still wets at night) She says they are much more absorbent than Pampers. Our grandson is saturated in AM also and wish he could stay dry.

Hey A.!

I used on my now 3 y/o daughter and now on my 10 month old son....Huggies Overnites Diapers. I used/use Pampers Cruisers during the day.

My son wears a size 3 (which I have only been able to find at BRU) and I have seen them up to size 6. Places like Wal-mart and Target, etc. carry them, but I have found the smallest size they carry is 4.

The Huggies Overnites make a BIG difference with the leaking. Every now and then, he'll still be a little damp, usually around the waist, but not much!!

Hope this helps!!

Huggies overnights are the best invention!!! We got those for our daughter and loved them. I would go a size up if he is in the range or close to it. The bigger size tends to hold more as long as they are falling off. I found them at Target. Good luck!

They have the kind of diapers that are OVERNIGHTS and they are much more adsorbant although if you want make sure that he doesn't drink after a certian time of the evening or else put on 2 diapers...that's what I used to do.
Good luck!

You need more frontal surface area! As a mom to two young boys, I always had this problem! Size up to a 4 for nighttime only, and see if that helps.

I didn't see this mentioned, there is a product out there called Diaper Doublers. I used to get them at Babies R Us, I also think you can get them at CVS Pharmacies. Do a google search to see what you're looking for, I used to use them at night, they did the job, you could even add two if needed.

I also agree with several others:

Huggies work better for boys and move up to the next size diaper. I have 3 boys and those 2 things should solve the problem.

We found, for boys, Huggies or the Wal-Mart White Cloud brand worked best for boys. Not sure why. My sons went right through Pampers and Luvs, too.

I hear you. My son pees so much at night. I honestly don't know how his little body can hold so much!
The Huggies overnights are amazing. I have also heard (but haven't tried) cloth diapers are more absorbant than disposables. I don't want to deal with the laundry, but the overnights have always treated me right.

Beside all of the diaper suggestions, have you tried reducing the amount of liquids he takes in after 5pm? That may have something to do with it too.

My son had the same problem. We used Pampers when he was size 3 and under but then switched to Huggies. They seem to not leak like the Pampers did. So one solution was that we moved up a size, even though they looked HUGE, and I made sure the front was pretty high up in front. He is almost 3 now (we are getting close with potty training) and I use the Huggies Overnights - which almost never leak. Hope this helps!

Hi A.,
My son also had a terrible problem with peeing out of his diapers, sheets and jammies washed daily. At 3 years old, he still occassionally will drop so much liquid at night that he leaks out. We tried a few things, but here was the best thing ever - Serenity pads. They are incontinence pads for adults, specifically made for absorbing liquid. You just put one in his diaper (it has adhesive to stay in place) every night. You can get varying absorbencies (just like menstrual pads). It is perfect. It is made for urine, collects lots of it, and then what ever it can't hold is held by the diaper. This was a life saver for us, and saved us countless cold and wet mornings. They aren't too bulky, and there are a few different brands you can choose from. You can just pick up a small pack at the store and give it a shot to see if it will work for you.

Good luck! D.

I liked Pampers for my son too. Usually going the next size up will help. I actually used cruisers, because they are more leak-proof than the babydry. I don't know which you are using. I just had better luck with them. Also try to cut back the fluids a couple hours before bedtime, and make sure the last thing you do before he lays down at night is put a brand new diaper on him. Good luck!
