Son Scooting in Crib While Sleeping

I need some advise/pointers. I have a 3 month old son who use to sleep from 10/10:30 at night until 7am the next morning. Well since he started moving his arms and legs a lot more, he's scooting out of his sleep positioners and up next to the rails of his crib and bumpers. When he finds himself up against the rails, it wakes him up every morning around 5. When he wakes himself up, he wants to eat. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem in feeding him whenever he wakes up, but I can't help but think that he would sleep through the night again if he didn't put himself up against the rails. Any suggestions on how to help him stay asleep if he's next to the rails or on how to keep him from scooting? Like I said we put him down between those sleep positioners, but he wiggles his way out of them and ends up either lying across them or completely out of them. Help, I want my good sleeping baby back!

What can I do next?

Hi J. congratulations are your new baby boy:) I too have a son that was born that same day, but he just turned 4:( I have 3 sons and my youngest is 10 months. My best advice for you is take out the sleep positioners! If he has figured out how to scoot out of them, they are more hazardous than they are helpful. Ususally once they start learning how to move around their crib, theres no stopping them. I don't know of any way to get him to sleep more comfy by the rails, I think thats just the way its going to have to be. You could roll reicing blankets tightly and lay them acroo the edges of the bed along the walls, so when he does scoot over to them, hes not right up against them and maybe he'll sleep better? I don't know for sure. But all I can say is you are one lucky Momma to have a baby that sleeps from 10 to 7 or even 5!!!! I know I'm jealous:) Good luck, and I hope you guys figure out a way to get him comfy again, A.

Bumper guards soft inside padding that goes along the inside. Also try rolling one of babies small blankets into a long roll, maybe he is looking for something to snuggle with?

For the first 5 weeks of my little ones life. No one told me about swaddleing. As soon as I would lay her down she moves her arms or legs and up we go again.... So I found this neat thing at Baby R Us. Blanket in a bag. She would fit in the bag zip it up like a jacket and she would lay still all night..... It really helped.. Until she was 6mo then I did away with it. Now she is 2 and sleeps though the night but is all over her bed.. I was once told that if a baby sleeps with the hands open they feel safe but if they sleep with hands closed they are insecure.. Who knows.. Try the blanket bag it was great!!!!

My son done the same thing once he was old enough to wiggle around in the crib. After the first week or so of him waking up after getting his legs through the rails and not going back to sleep, we decided to let him cry himself back to sleep or figure his own way out. After a couple weeks he didn't wake up anymore and we would find him with both legs through the rails or an arm through the rail and finally he stopped moving so much.
we lived in a trailor at the time and the bedroom doors were 3-4 inches above the floor. after he learned to crawl around, he used to go to his room, shut the door, lay down infront of the door stick his legs out and go to sleep. Boys do the oddest things.
Good luck

I agree w/ April. And remove the bumper padding too. They are now considered a suffocation hazard. If baby is moving, just clear out the crib so he doesn't have anything to suffocate on. Is he next to your bed? If not, he probably should be. Havin a baby room in reduces the risk of SIDS.
