My oldest son lost his second tooth just a few weeks ago and the adult tooth has started growing in. This morning, I was shocked to see that it looks like it is growing in sideways instead of the regular way. It is one of the top front teeth. It is his 2nd permanent tooth to come in. Is this normal???

What can I do next?

I'd check with a dentist. I had problems with my baby teeth coming out and ended up having to have 9 pulled so my permanent teeth would come in right. The baby teeth were even affecting the permanent teeth that hadn't started coming in yet. Anyways, I still ended up having to have braces, but it wasn't as bad as it would have been had we not gone to the dentist when we did. It may correct itself, but many crooked teeth don't, so better to see if you can do something about it now instead of waiting.

My daughter, now 8, did the same thing. One of her front teeth came in nearly sideways. And since the tooth was huge compared to her baby teeth, it looked terrible.

But when the 2nd front tooth came in, it straightened out the crooked one. It corrected itself!! I hope you have the same experience.

Yep! As long as he has no dental problems, it's fine and will right itself.

Hi. My son had a tooth grow in, not only sideways, but in the roof of his mouth. It all worked out ok= but that was 18 years ago and honestly don't remember what happened. Just go to the dentist to be sure but don't be alarmed.

All of my sisters permenant teeth came in sideways. they where where they where supposed to be, just facing the wrong direction. She got braces in the fourth grade and removed them the week she graduated from high school. She has GORGEOUS teeth. I would go to your family dentist, have it looked at and have a complete set of xrays to see what the other permenant teeth are looking like. good luck

My daughter's did the same thing. Sounds like your headed for braces. Hers was completely sideways. Braces did the trick. Now she is 25 with a beautiful smile! It was amazing how quickly the turned around with the braces.......about 2 weeks!!! Good luck!
