for the last three nights my eleven month year old son has been waking up in the middle of the night. He was on a great sleeping schedule but all of sudden he started waking up in the middle of the night. This last night he slept threw the whole night but the next day he wouldn't go down for his morning nap and he cried himself to sleep for his second nap. What happens is he fine during the day and everything is good but as soon as I put him in the crib he starts crying.

My son is about the same age and is typically a great sleeper as well. Lately, however, we've had difficulty getting him to bed - he'll fall asleep in our arms and then will wake up as soon as we put him down in his crib.
One more possibility to add to the mix is bedtime separation anxiety. Kids start to experience it right around this time and although we tend to think of it as a day time issue, it is just as concerning to a small child when left alone in a dark room. If you've ruled out a medical issue, try sticking to a bed time routine that starts and hour or two before he usually goes to bed. It won't eliminate his fears entirely, but it can help.
Best wishes.

Definately sounds just like a ear infection! My daughter did the exact same things. Acted perfect during the daytime but bedtime she would wake up and cry or be really crabby. My daughter has never run a fever for a ear infection either I usually knew she had one by her sleeping pattern being thrown off.

my little one does that on occasion. he is fifteen months and hasn't done it since the end of january, but i know what you mean. for my son, it typically means he is either teething or going through a growth spurt. it doesn't happen every time he is teething, but every once in a while. he won't sleep in his crib or he'll just sleep there for a few hours, then he cries. as soon as my husband or myself pick him up, he stops. if we try to put him back down, he cries. it usually ends up that i sleep with him for a night or two, but i wait until he wakes up and starts to cry before i do that and then it passes. hopefully, that is the case for your son too. my son's have never lasted more than about a week. good luck. it's tough for you because you are pregnant and need the rest.

I have an 8 month old daughter and since she was 6 weeks old has slept though the night consistently until....about Christmas time when she was 6 1/2 months old, she started waking up 1-2 times per night and not napping well.....realized that her teeth were coming in vigorously. She got all four top teeth in one weekend and that explained alot. Check to see if your child has signs of teething and maybe give oragel and/or Tylenol before napping or bedtime to help ease the pain.

Is it possible he has an ear infection? Sometimes children can have them without any real outward symptoms other than difficulty sleeping (pain is worse when lying down) or being just plain old crabby. If this continues tonight, I'd bring him in to have his ears checked. If he's recently had a cold my guess is it is an ear infection.

Good luck!

My son just went through the same thing and I took him in today and he has an ear infection in both ears. He just had a cold and everything and was fine but like you... as soon as I put him down for either his nap or bed time he would cry and scream and wake up a few times during the night crying too. After the second day of it I took him in. During the day he was running around and playing and talking like there was nothing wrong with him... just when he was laying down. So, I definantly think it would be worth taking him to have his ears checked. My daughter did the same thing when she was little too, that's why I didn't wait as long with my son. Hope this helps!

Hi S.,
I guess I would make sure that he doesn't have an ear infection. My son was a great sleeper and started waking in the middle of the night. He had physical exam scheduled and my Dr. discovered an ear infection. No fever, crankiness when awake, diaper rash or any other symptom. Worth a look.
Best of luck,
L.
